I'd love for NfS to come back in a spectacular fashion, but there's no way EA will let that happen. It's kinda like Sonic in a way. I mean that as no matter what the developers want to do, SEGA doesn't care, which is why '06 and Boom exist. So while I'd love the series to come back in a meaningful way, I don't have much hope. I've actually heard it was the other way around. The PC/XBox/GC version was developed first, with the PS2, being less powerful, handed off to Black Box to make a port. Then they went above and beyond, working their asses off to remake most the game in only a few months. IDK what is true that, we will probably never know.

No, the thing is before Hot Pursuit 2 was developed EA Seattle was developing and mantaining Motor City Online (originally planned as Need for Speed Motor City, 1999 - 2003). When Hot Pursuit 2 was planned to be developed portion of EA Seattle was still on Motor City Online, obviously it being the world's first massive multiplayer Online racing game it needed constant support during its live time. Being from the MCO community we had alot of talk about MCO and NFS and I don't exactly remember what they said how HP2 was affected, however it probably couldn't have full attention because EA Seattle was co-working on other games, for example at least MCO. However, HP2 for the PC/GC/Xbox doesn't play bad and doesn't look bad for its time, in fact the visuals are fairly compareable how the EA Sports titles from 2002 - 2006 looked for the PC). What really couldn't push the PC Version, Xbox and GC was that the PC's at the time were not the most powerful saying that 95% of the people who had a computer was just poweful enough to run games like HP2 as it is, the GC wasn't a wonder neither so the Xbox had to follow the line to be able having multiple systems product. The PS2 luckily got the chance for its exclusive treatment using all its capability for Hot Pursuit 2 with a second devlopment team that was already familar with the console.

2:08 Similar situation is with NfS4. EA Seattle developed PC version, while EA Canada is responsible for PS1 game. That time PC release wasn't considered as inferior (as it runs with more plausible framerate, have Hot Pursuit tracks and thanks to community, many new cars were added to the game through the mods). 6:02 Neither Elise S2 and VX220 are slow, even with their early engine options. The Z3 and SLK from High Stakes are slower. The issue with Lotus and it's GM twin is the lack of top speed. These would be great for game like Most Wanted, but HP2 requires higher top speed due to its track design. Still, I liked driving these two sport cars more as opposed to the boat CL500 or family sedan TS50. 6:10 E39 M5 and Diablo SV police vehicles are in High Stakes, supported with the last american made Caprice, 993 Turbo and helicopter (which You can't use in pursuit mode, but it's there). The Australian release of NFS4 is supported with HSV VT GTS police vehicle. 7:30 Depends how You put it, High Stakes is the first NfS game to use licensed music. It's there where aside from Rom di Prisco and Saki Kaskas who wrote music for the game, we could listen to Junkie XL, Lunatic Calm, Dylan Rhymes and few other artists. What this review don't mention is certain downside about soundtrack - about how often certain songs were repeated during different races (which made me restart the race in order to shuffle for other song). It was then I realized there's playlist option which is a blessed feature as it allow the player to organize music (got bored of this songs being played too often, while The Humble Brothers and Matt Ragan appear rarely? Not an issue anymore). To be fair, the soundtrack for HP2 is a letdown - only 15 songs (excluding instrumental versions), previous games in the series had more. This is a low number, considering not all of the music slap as opening song or Black Hole (my favorite).

I have GameCube version and PS2 version. Other things that were never mentioned in this video: Horns- you can honk in all versions but when you look behind you, your headlights flash in PS2 version. McLaren F1 LM- in GameCube and the other 2, the car is only 1 color, the beautiful iconic orange that idk the name of, but PS2 allows you to change the color, orange, red, blue, silver, and black. Points- in PS2 he mentioned you get points over time from racing, in GameCube and the other 2, it’s “bank”, you buy the cars so you can race them in free run or buy better police cars. Coastal Parklands race- They are the same tracks but the scenery is completely different as well as some short cuts. When you start the race, your first short cut is dirt, as in PS2, it’s tarmac, and same with the light house. Before the tunnel, you have a big cliff with some grass and trees maybe, that is basically just a wall, unlike PS2, it’s the beautiful sea/ocean. The chief cut to the left of the tunnel is the same until you reach the bridge. GameCube has a little concrete bridge while PS2 has a broken sewer pipe with a nice little stream going through it for you to splash through. Driving style- GameCube and the other 2 you can go straight into the race and it asked you if you want to use auto or manual. As for PS2, it asked for transmission and handling style. Auto, semi-auto, and manual, handling styles are classic or extreme, which is a more simulation feel if you choose extreme. When you do free run(I’ve never done anything else other that free run outside of career mode as I’ll call it), there’s traffic settings, GameCube and the other 2 offer “on” and “off” while PS2 has off, minimum, moderate, and maximum. Car modeling- GameCube and the other 2 have a different version of the Mercedes CLK GTR than PS2 does. The license plates in GameCube are yellow, while PS2 has actual Europe license plates. **This comment WILL be updated if I have more to add.**

Man, this game hits me hard with nostalgia. Looking back at this time, one of the things I absolutely loved was the soundtrack. My favorites were the two songs by Hot action cop (Feva for the flava, Goin' Down On It ). For me, those two songs really give the game its own personality. I also find it ironic that the two songs in the game are censored versions of the original songs. Which made finding out/listening to the uncensored songs many years later to be really damm funny. But you gotta hand it to them, turning a song about wanting to eat a girl's p***y to a song talking about how badass your car is. Or a song about having sex to a song about outrunning the cops in a fast car.

The first time I played NFSHP2 was on one of those PS2 demo discs that used to come with game magazines. It was only one or two tracks but I played the crap out of it. When the game finally released I decided to get the Xbox version expecting it to be better. At the time Xbox versions of multiplatform games were almost always better. I can't express the disappointment I felt when I got home and tried the game. That same day I went back to Babbage's and exchanged it for the PS2 version. I live in the boonies and this was not a short trip, but it was so worth it. NFSHP2 is my favorite racing game of all time. I still play it regularly. Great job on covering the differences between the PS2 and other versions of this game. Most videos I watch about the game either don't mention it or are unaware of the differences. You always do an amazing job of diving into the backgrounds of the games you review. I always feel sorry for the people that say they played one of the non PS2 versions thinking it was a good game without realizing what they missed out on.

I know you’ve done different things with your borders in the past but the police lights on this was especially fun. Great work as always

I had no idea this game was like this on PS2. I've only ever played the Gamecube version. I loved this game, holy crap, what have I been missing out on

I remember this game, I rubbed out a cop car so bad I went back and the car was inside the cactus. Favourite desert/Canyon map to drive on.

Just found out that Hot Action Cop’s Goin Down On It and Fever For The Flava are actually songs about sex. My childhood was a lie 😂
@pourgoi_61003 жыл бұрын
yeah the original versions are fucking garbage lmao
@Johnny-ux7yi3 жыл бұрын
For the longest time, before i even read the lyrics, i always thought those two tracks were written for the game from the perspective of a police officer wanting to get a piece of the action.
@HisameSymouri19953 жыл бұрын
@@pourgoi_6100 kinda funny actually....the NFS versions of those songs are so much better and probably would have saved their careers, instead of writing an album about sex and then disappearing into the abyss.

Yes, and this song is one of the rare case where the censored, or toned down version is better.

My disappointment was immeasurable when I got this for PC after playing my friend's PS2 version. Well, that was an exaggeration but the quality between the versions is painstakingly obvious.

I rented this game multiple time as a kid, but only bought when I was in high school. My typical weekend when I rented that game was: Go to the store at around 4 to 5 pm. Play until midnight. Wake up a 6 am on Saturday, play until midnight. Wake up at 6 am on Sunday. Play until 9 pm, which was my bed time at the time. I play that game so much, I cannot play more than an hour without getting bored.

Back in the ps2 days, the lack of powerful hardware made developers compensate for a lot of things the more powerful system could do... Black box ingenuity and creativity was rewarded with the keys for the Nfs Franchise, going down as creator of the best NFS Games to this day. 👏❤️ God I miss Black box 😭

I got Need For Speed 3, Porsche Unleashed and Need For Speed High Stakes to run on Windows 10 very easily. Was fun to relive my youth.

Fun Fact: If you ram the police as they're sitting there and shunt them while they're stationary, then it will put them out of commission before they start to chase you! I learned this and use it to my advantage when I can sometimes to hold off pursuits as well

Damn the cops in this game can be really ruthless, I tried the game again yesterday and from the first race they were aggressive and constantly trying to push you off.
@HisameSymouri19953 жыл бұрын
The cops in NFS Heat at night remind me so much of this game....they are so aggressive and angry.....plus the chatter is funny. Honestly the best part of Heat is the night mode, it's like playing an entirely different game.

I absolutely love this game. A TV commercial here in Germany right around christmas was the reason I wanted a PS2 and this game, and thankfully I got it. I probably played it for hundreds of hours. Even the mid-tier cars (Lambos, Ferraris etc) were tons of fun already.

Not only were the graphics horrible on the PC version compared to the PS2 version, but the cops were WAY EASIER to outrun in the PC version compared to the PS2 version. I would run past cops and not see them on my rear view mirror after 3 seconds.... And about 30 seconds later you'd hear something on the radio like "21 County, I've lost the suspect".

3:35 Best description of the Seattle version. It's not that it sucks (far from it), it's that it looks and plays more like Porsche Unleashed, which was also good.

Are we getting a High Stakes review? If so, please mention the 1998 Camaro and the Firebird Trans Am, the 90s cars haven't made an appearance in NFS since 1999.
