This video shows all of the steps in great detail on how to fix a stuck aperture, and an oily aperture so that you can get the full use back out of your old manual lenses.
This particular lens was purchased from a good seller on ebay, the lens was listed as being completely functional, however when it arrived the aperture did not work at all. I was a little disappointed, but decided that I liked the lens and since it only costed $20, I'd try to fix it rather than return it.
I've tried to include every step of the process, including before and after photos! it is a long video so skip the steps you don't feel that you need to see using the timestamps below..
I hope you find the video helpful so that you can can be confident in doing the same repair.
Also, one correction, this lens was made in the 70s.

Brave man, nice pics. I bought that lens model as my first zoom, back in 1980, eventually sold when I got an af camera. What i liked was the lovely colour of the lens coating.

Very nice work! I prefer to use rubber gloves but putting the aperture plate back from downside would be quite a chalenge.

I made the video to be a resource for people when the have the same problem as I did. Everyone will have different questions so I thought it would be best to show more rather than cutting out steps just to make the video more interesting.

hey man, fantastic video, thank you. i especially liked that you didn't cut out your fuck-up and showed your fix to it. nice job. i bought a cheap vintage zoom lens too which seems to have a similar issue - the aperture only works sometimes and it seems like there is grease built up on the blades. it's a different type of lens than the one in your video but it looks like you had some experience prior to fixing this lens. so i have a question if you don't mind: Do you think removing the rear part of my lens (tokina RMC 28-85mm f4) would suffice to access the aperture control? it's a twist-to zoom kind of lens so i'd imagine so. The lens seems like quite a gem, it would be a shame if i'd have to neglect it.

Hey thanks, I appreciate your support. I took a look at the lens that you have and it does look similar, the lever for the aperture looks like it is quite a bit different, but I believe that you can access the aperture blades in the same manner as I did. This took me quite a while and if you want to take on this type of job you'd have to bring your patience for sure, I know mine was being tested. This was my first time taking apart any lenses, what really helped is pictures and video for reference, if something isn't fitting you can quickly go back and check to see how it should go. If yours has any springs, that's where you need to be super careful that they don't go flying! Are there any videos on KZbin for your lens?

If you have some screws that are stuck, how can you get them out? what camicals can you use?
@NeedItMakeIt
@NeedItMakeIt 2 жыл бұрын
I'd recommend giving the screwdriver a light tap on the end. Same principle as loosening a stuck bolt on the car. You probably want to avoid penetrating oils on your lens parts

latex gloves would’ve kept the oil from your fingers from getting on everything and then you wouldn’t spend time cleaning and re-cleaning your fingers and the lens parts

Is there a way to get one for a Sony a7iii?
@NeedItMakeIt
@NeedItMakeIt 5 жыл бұрын
There should be as long as they make an adapter for your Sony. www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1413090-REG/fotodiox_md_snye_lens_mount_adapter_for.html?pcur=CAD&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI2sTQy5-x5AIVEv_jBx171g8-EAQYASABEgIVdvD_BwE I personally prefer the manual lenses, they are so much more interactive and creative. The auto lenses are so much better for video of course. That Sony looks like a nice Camera!

Is the Sony a full-frame? I'm not sure how well the old lenses work on that size of sensor. I bet someone on KZbin or Google has some info on it though.

the "macro" part of my lens doesnt work. I cant focus any closer than 43".
@NeedItMakeIt
@NeedItMakeIt 3 жыл бұрын
That's about right for mine also, I don't believe this one captures macro shots in the same way the new ones do. It does still collect great macro shots, but they aren't the same as what you'd find in newer lenses available now. I think mine was 15 or 20$, so still a good deal.

If the Lens is MIJ then Phillips Screws are wrong, they should be JIS Screwdrivers and some screws have Loctite applied so just need to soak before with some Acetone.
