did you know that the bing 54 came with different pistons, with a different needle height. i found a second hand 54 and couldn't get the engine to run properly until i discovered that the needle was way too high

I found the jetting for the UL exhaust similar to the sled exhaust for the mikuni 34mm carbs. I dropped the clip a notch and turned in the air screw a bit, I got good color on my plugs.

Thanks John - sorry to hear about your friend Tom. That was nice you did a video to honor him. I work on motorcycles most of them have Mikuni or Keihin carbs. This 1974 Husky that I just finished has Bing 54. It only took me 45 min. to figure out your screwing the spring out trick. Thanks for the video wish I watch it sooner. But proud of myself for figuring it out- The other carbs have cut away in the slide for the cable. i have been spoiled. Denis Kerechuk- I am 66 losing friends too - I feel for your loss.

I have a question about Poor Idle quality. I have a 277 equipped with a Bing 54 that 'Just Won't Idle' below 3000 RPM. Any lower will cause the engine to shake, vibrate and stop running. The lowest Ive been able to get it to idle is around 2500 RPM. Even with a 2.58 reduction, the prop is still spinning too fast on the concrete ramp and the plane simply rolls away unless I have it tied down. Any thoughts will be appreciated.

Below 2500 is the idle system, the idle jet may be clogged or restricted

The 582 normal setting is third groove from the blunt end. Winter would be clip in forth groove.
