Thankyou very much for this video. I was pretty close in how you adjusted the timing but I used a magnetic holder for the dial indicator and wasn't sure how the 30° offset was as far as setup. Now I need to come up with a dial indicator holder that will screw into the sparkplug hole to be more accurate. Thanks again this clarified the procedure greatly.

I recommend you acquire the “installation manual” for your 582 Rotax. Available free download from rotax-owner.com or flyrotax.com.

Leave the heads off and eliminate the angle issue. Now you can use a standard dial inticator without having to compensate for the anlged spark plug holes. Perfect!

Yes I could have left the head off, however my procedure is to fully assemble the short block first. Then I pressure test and confirm no leakage of the engine. If I was to leave the heads off to do the timing and then later found a leak somewhere the magneto ignition would be extra time to remove and reinstall. Thanks for your comment.
