In this video series, I teach a start-to-finish tutorial for creating Armenian Needlelace, which is the beautiful art of Armenian needlework. This art, also known as point lace, iğne oyası (Igne Oyasi in Turkish), Nazareth Lace, Bebilla, and Knotted Lace, is centuries old. I learned this art growing up in a Lebanon orphanage when I was a little girl. This art is also known as iğne oyası.
I hope to continue sharing this art with you all. Thank you all so much for your support!

I've done crochet and knitting for most of my life, as well as tatting, but I must admit that knotted needlelaces are the pinnacle of lacemaking. The mastery that they require stuns me every time I see it. The fact that they are so hard to pick back, that you must concentrate so hard, that you have to measure most of your loops by eye ... Armenian needlelace is the greatest of all laces.

I never considered how lace was made or even was made. I don't know why this blows my mind! It's not on the same level but I'm getting I to cross stitching and i want to gradually branch out to things like embroidery knitting lacing etc. It's all so amazing. I hope my eyesight lasts though 😅

Absolutely stunning handwork. My mother did needle tatting on handkerchiefs as a child to sell in Grandmother’s “penny store”. I was surrounded as a child with flower gardens, antiques and homemade lace. I have never seen an entire tablecloth tatted this way. Beautiful. Thank you for sharing this lost art with so many beginners.

I love handwork. My grandma and mom were seamstresses. But grandma crocheted. She didn't do Armenian Lace. My mom wanted me to learn, especially since it's part of my heritage. I'm second generation Armenian. My grandparents on both sides came here at the beginning of the genocide. You do make it very easy. My grandma and mom would be proud. Thank you

Ashley, THANK YOU THANK YOU for your wonderful series of videos and the introduction where you showed the very large artwork. Every piece and every size of the needle art is absolutely BEAUTIFUL. Spiritual! I really appreciate your repeating the instructions many times in each segment and doing so many loops faster AND slower. Very helpful. I'm left-handed but have decided to learn with needle in my right hand (I crochet and needle tat right handed already, so shouldn't be too hard...!) I can't wait to begin this weekend. If you ever decide to write a book or put all 8 videos together into one long video, please let us know! I'm first in line to buy one. Fantastic.

Ashley, I have been using your videos to help me create this beautiful pattern of yours. I am curious if you have other patterns? where would I find more patterns? Are there books? or websites? I have searched and all I find is the book on flowers. I made a few and didn't care for them. I love making doilies and small decorative things. any help would be appreciated. So far you are the best teacher of Armenian knotted lace or (needle lace) that I have seen! I'd love to see more coasters and doilies if you made the vidieos. please write back and let me know, or PM me Onna Addis on FB and messenger. onnaaddis@gmail.com keep up the great work, you're great!

Exceptionally clear instructions and thank you for English instruction as well, which is not easy to find. I understood everything perfectly and if anyone needs to watch something slowly, all they need to do is go into their settings on the bottom of the youtube screen of this video and change the speed. I'm currently working my way and am on the second to last video with no problems (other than my stitches here and there are not perfect, which is ok and normal for one beginning anything!). Thank you so very much. Beautiful lace.

Ok Ashley, I tried for 2 days to get the first ring done with the 12 loops on it, but I just could not get the hang of it. Then I realized that the ring with the loops looks just like a ring with picots in shuttle tatting, which I do all the time. So I made the first ring with the 12 loops with shuttle tatting, and then continued on with the rest of this with a needle and followed along with you. Thank you so much for teaching me how to do it. BecomeInspired I have not yet started, although I have all the materials… I do so many things and my intention is to make fiber creations which incorporate all the things I can do. So I will be making some of this beautiful Armenian lace for one of my mixed media fiber art works… Hopefully I will be able to keep you posted! If you’re on Facebook search for my name, I am the only ‘Linda Carol Adrienne’ that Google can currently find… LOL! Illove to watch your skill as you make this lace!

BecomeInspired - I have just started with my work. I currently have a piece in the Virginia Beach Arts Center show “ La Femme”… It is my first piece in A real art gallery… I have another piece that is in the “Sacred Threads” exhibition in 2019, which is still on tour around the country… It has taken me until being 65 years old to finally allow myself to express the beauty that I can create. I am very much grateful for all of accomplished individuals like yourself, from whom I can learn things that I can add to my pieces. In Joyful, Loving Gratitude, Linda Carol

I wonder if this is like an evolved version of nålbinding, maybe they started out similarly and then made it more complex. Much more intricate but the same looping single needle way of working. amazing!

I love the doily that you made. I want to learn this craft, therefore I will try to follow your wonderful tutorial. You said you used DMC thread, what size thread is it? And what type and size needle did you use. Do you have any suggestions for a beginner like me. I've been crocheting for many years, also do tatting, hopefully knowing those crafts will help me learn needle lace. Thank you for sharing your talent.
@BecomeInspired
@BecomeInspired 8 жыл бұрын
I am glad you're interested in this. Any size thread and any needle the thread fits through will work. If your preference is a thin thread, you can use a thin DMC with a small needle.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I want to make my own wedding dress, and of course I need lace, and I am horrible at tatting. This looks like I might be able to make something. At least a prettier jumble of thread than what I did with tatting...

thank you for this video. somehow needle laces have come up on my feed though I rarely watch needlework videos - as someone who enjoys knitting and other types of needle-related art (crochet, sewing, a bit of embroidery) this is something quite fascinating to me and I love how you don't need any really special tools - I could do this with the material I already have from my existing hobbies, and I could even use thicker yarn of a similar type (though of course, it would not look as fine or beautiful as the ones with fine crochet thread as you use here)! a question: which of your subsequent videos addresses adding new thread?
@BecomeInspired
@BecomeInspired 4 жыл бұрын
Charmaine Eng Hi Char! Every time I run out of thread on any of these videos, I add new thread and show my viewers. I will make a new video of this and detail the exact steps soon as well. I’m glad you love the videos :)
