Question: What size beads should you use?
Answer: For the technique used in "Adding Beads in Needle Tatting: method two," I like to only use beads that will fit over my needle. If you are using the average sided #5 needle, or most doll needles, this would usually be a bead that is 5mm or larger, with a hole larger than 2.75mm.

hi, Kate First of all I'like to thank you for showing people how to tat, there are not that many English video of "needle tatting". I am so glad I found you. I am wondering if you can show how to needle tat a whole piece of cloth ie: rectangle, oval or round.? Thank you so much

I am just learning how to tat. I started with needles and bought shuttles also. I have been sticking with the needles as they seem to be easier to work with. I am so glad I saw how you add beads. I am making a necklace and I used the hanging bead method. The design is a ring with a chain underneath. Very pretty design. But I had to knot then reverse on the ring, then on the chain reverse then knot and attach chain to picot. I just could not get the hang of it. I am using a size 40 thread, not sure of the needle size, but it fits through the beads. In this pattern I had to add 120 beads to the thread before I started tatting. I could not do it after 10 or more tries. But I love the pattern and I am to stubborn to quit. Now I have hope to just out the bead on the needle, rather than hanging below the needle. Thank you so much for showing this. I have found tatters are wonderful people willing to help anyway the can. I love you all. Claire

So glad you found me too! I am making a big list of future projects to do videos on in the near future and so, yes, I will put your request on my list. :) Are you thinking a small project or an actual large piece (whole doily, etc.)? Do you want to see how to connect the start point to the end point, and/or how to add layers/rounds to make circles and squares larger?

Christy, so glad these videos are helpful and you're enjoying tatting! :) I've had a lot of requests for small projects lately, so yes, I hope to do a few project videos in the near future. Do you vote for a sm. project that is lacey or more functional? I'd love your feedback. Also working on getting some of my tatting patterns available on Etsy...hoping to spread the "JOY" :)

How would you add beads to needle thread if too small to pass through needle? I’m tatting earrings using tex70 thread and want to add 11/0 seed beads to needle thread in a chain.

Janie, are you trying to find a good tatting pattern book? I apologies, I don't understand French, and I am not sure if the "Google translator" translated your comment to English correctly. Is the "SPACE" you are talking about referring to the Picot? Please let me know, I would like to help. :)

Sharon, KZbin recently auto-updated my pages to the new format, which is harder to navigate then the old, so that is probably why you haven't been able to find the links to the pattern you are looking for. On the main page you should see the "about" button towards the top of the page, click that and go to bottom of that page there should be an Etsy and a Craftsy link, the pattern is available on both. Hope this helps! :)
