I like the fact that without the flipper tab you could hold it in a pinch grip and use the entire edge on a cutting board or work bench.

Just curious, if you were going to use a guided sharpening system with diamond stones, what angle would you suggest for this exact knife and steel (I have the identical knife)? Would you suggest a 15° angle or maybe a 20°, or possibly something else?

I just grabbed the crossbar Sheepdog in purple aluminum. Kizer is doing a great job with their omega springs. I'm amazed how snappy the reverse flick is despite not having a detent. Oh, but the plunge grind isn't 'okay', it sucks. I'm surprised you didn't rip it harder. Still a great knife.

Definately on the wish list. Great cutter with good steel and awesome ergonomics makes for a knife that you just want to use. Price is pretty good also. So many knives i want to get but my wallet can't take the beating right now lol. Keep making sharp things fun and enjoyable.

Good review of the knife. Not sure how I feel about cleaver blades. They seem like they would take up the entire pocket. Going to look at this especially after what you said. No flipper does look good on this.

Much tighter tolerances than the Mini, Clip is partially inset, as it's on the contour... This Knife is Great! Although I do prefer the distressed finish (stand-offs and pivots) that the First-Run unfortunately does not have.

I was in the same boat as you. Which one to get? I ended up getting the full size version shown in this video with 3.5" blade. The 2.6" blade on the mini seemed too small, and the 4" blade on the XL seemed like it would be too pocket-filling, and heavy. Also figured the XL would make it hard to get to things in the pocket due to its size. The 3.5" blade of the regular Sheepdog is just about perfect. My only complaint(s) about the knife are that the black micarta at least on mine is way too gray and not enough black. Also, like others have mentioned, the detent was set up for when this knife only came with a flipper tab. It's a very deep ball in hole which would be perfect for a flipper, but it's a bit of a chore to use an index finger to flip it open, and near impossible to use a thumb as that flipper is gone. I'm going to have to either bend the liner lock, or possibly use a diamond rod on one side of the detent hole in the blade so that the detent ball can exit the hole a bit easier.

I've receive my Sheepdog yesterday, comes with a slight lock rock as well as a tad bit of lock stick, disassemble and fixed all the issue (thanks to your lock rock vids tutorial) now it works fine but, now the detent a bit on the stiff side. Just so you know.
