Do you trust your process? Can you eliminate possibilities along the way with solid testing procedures? I wish I could work at Danner's shop. Never a dull moment there - always busy, always interesting cars in the background. Hey Paul, maybe do a video of all those vintage beauties and the stories behind them. Thanks for infecting me with your methodology. Happy New Year.

Paul, any chance you could collab with Ivan from Pine Hollow in the future since you guys live in same state? I’d love to see you two tackle a complex diagnosis and share methodologies. Just a thought man. I have mad respect for both of you fellas.

That would be awesome. I'm about 3 hrs to the Penn State area though, so not an easy thing to coordinate

Another problem I've run into on V6 engines is if the engine has 2 timing chains, one could be worn. The engine breathing from side to side would be different. The side with negative fuel trims is the culprit. Of course further testing would be needed to pinpoint the bad chain.

Confused. At about 8:00 he says he swapped o2 sensors but I somehow missed that ? Video started with him at egr.
@ScannerDanner16 күн бұрын
It's a clip from a 2 part series (soon to be 3) from my website.
@gojudude17 күн бұрын
A simpler way to check instead of swapping those O2's is to simply unplug one and watch your trims...somewhere around 30 seconds or so both banks will trim identically off of the one plugged up. In your case here, unplug that B1 sensor (neg trims) and watch if both banks start trimming positive. If so, your circuits and PCM are good. If you want to go further, reverse the process and they should both go lean based on B1 being plugged up, and B2 being disconnected.
@akshonclip17 күн бұрын
Problem with doing that is it throws a heater code and goes into default strategy.
@ScannerDanner16 күн бұрын
Check out the image in the thumbnail, this wasn't a non functional O2, but I questioned its amplitude at times. The issue was from an injector not flowing properly causing the O2 "hash". The test your are suggesting wouldn't be applicable to this scenario but one with a fixed O2 signal. Thanks!

Good afternoon and I finally made it back to your class. I don’t believe in excuses but I had gotten locked out of my email and I have had it so long that I didn’t want to open a new email so I had to follow protocol with google and their 2 step verification process crap. I have a 1997 ford f150 king cab,4x4 automatic with the first generation 5.4. It has right at 254,something something thousand miles. My handheld scanner shows live feeds and I’m learning about fuel trim and what affects it. So I’m hoping that my self teaching is correct! Thanks again for the time you invest along with your knowledge and experience for others that have the interest in learning these computer controlled monsters we call vehicles! Lol..The old school shade tree mechanic is about extinct. Take care

What I did to mine that seemed to help was replacing all major vacuum lines especially the big one on the back of the lower intake. The cats were already removed so I knew the exhaust wasn’t playing any part of the fuel trim and the truck was idleing smooth and running smoothly as expected but the unburned exhaust would literally make me pull over and so I wouldn’t pass out from exhaust poison. It was that bad! Lol

Have you used the air temp PID trend up graph under load for plugged exhaust diagnosis?
@ScannerDanner15 күн бұрын
Only on manifold mounted IAT sensors (which most are not these days) and I've used that for stuck open EGR valves but not for exhaust restrictions

Finding the Injectors Some of these vehicles you have to disassemble them to see what you're looking for (Ford likes to put them on the intake under the plenum where the connection are ran, you can't probe them) Back pressure check on Duel exhaust is by feel to eliminate what side has flow A Two into One, This Technic will not work, You'll need to Pop the hood I would hook my motor minder vacuum gauge up and see what direction it points me too thx Paul

Swapped out O2 Sensors will give you this condition. Negative on one side while Positive on the other one
@gojudude17 күн бұрын
How so?
@akshonclip17 күн бұрын
Yes if the connectors are swapped left to right. Left side O2 thinks it’s installed on the Right bank.
@shagytrsc216 күн бұрын
@@gojudude The PCM/ECM Comands the correction of mixture on the bank and monitors the reaction of O2 sensor. Since O2 sensors are swapped out it can not see the expected reaction because is monitoring the wrong bank. Hope makes sense.
@ScannerDanner16 күн бұрын
yes sir, if the front harnesses are close to each other and can be swapped. I've seen it! -25% on one bank and 25% on the other. Craziest thing ever when I first saw this as the engine would run great at times (cold starts and WOT)

I have a few case studies on this. Also with an upstream and downstream O2 that the connectors were swapped kzbin.info/www/bejne/qWeYm6ijf5icmqc kzbin.info/www/bejne/jaOmkmyZeJ54hsk
