Actually from what I've learned about the Unicorn Academy books, it's practically nothing like the series. Only thing that's the same is the basic premise of kids going to a magic school and they have their own unicorn partner.

(7:23) For those curious, TL;DR: The "Black character with lightning powers" trope exists because Black Lightning was an incredibly popular character during the time of his creation. DC wanted to make a cartoon featuring Black Lightning (or BL as I like to call him) but unfortunately DC came down with a bad case of "we don't wanna pay the creator"-itis, so they created their own legally distinguishable knockoff character, Black Vulcan. Other comic creators would see the success of Black Lightning and Black Vulcan then follow suit with their own legally distinguishable black lightning power character and put their own spin on it and now it sits alongside "black character with cybernetic enhancements" as one of those tropes that you never notice until somebody points it out.

Actually apparently the third season is already being animated and will be released somewhere next year and season 4 is in production, apparently unicorn academy production will be finished either in 2025 or 2026, apparently they said back in 2023 that unicorn academy will end in 2025, but i checked yesterday and a new article said that they have content planned through 2025 and going into 2026 so not sure about that, all i know for now is that 16 episodes have been ordered which means 2 season with 8 episodes each, and there is also a new special coming called ’legendary summer’ which will feature Layla and the book about it is being released in March 2025 which could mean that both the special ’legendary summer’ and season 3 will be released in March just like they did for season 2 and ’under the fairy moon’ special as they released them together, so I’m thinking they would release ’legendary summer’ and season 3 together as well ;)

Here’s a rundown on how the characters are supposed to be in the original book. Everyone comes from unicorn island where people with unicorns are supposed to be protecting the island and only a selected bunch at 10 are chosen for this. Sophie is similarly coming from a ranch, but she wears plain clothes all the time and is actually pretty social. Ava is her best friend whose father is a gardener and since then she’s loved gardening. She has short (chin length) hair that is still dark but she is brown and not black. Scarlett is a daredevil who has blonde hair and blue eyes. She and billy have a friendly rival relationship. Layla is a shy girl with dark skin and black hair. She didn’t at first want any friends, but in her book she learned to overcome her dear. And Olivia is a ginger with super bushy and curly hair. She was supposed to be the only one without finding her unicorns powers and bonding with it until the very end. Also only a streak of their hair turns into the colour of the unicorns hair, not the whole thing. Sophie bonded and found her unicorns magic through an exploration with Ava. Ava found her unicorns magic and bonded with it after they had found more berries that grant the unicorns power. Scarlett Im pretty sure was from helping someone during a raced instead of winning it. Layla when she finally decided to go on a camp with the rest of the people from her dorm. But Olivia got it when she finally admitted all her fears and doubts to her unicorn, and found the powers when the unicorn came to save her. This is just a recap from what I remember Edit: SOPHIE UNICORN DID NOT BELONG TO ANYONE AND !HIS! NAME IN THE BOOK WAS RAINBOW WDYM WILDSTAR. And the villain was undercover as a teacher and they did not have an original villain either than a cloaked person running around destroying things.

(Rory and Valentina do exist in the books) 2:21 No, Layla doesn,t have glasses in the books. 2:36 this wasnt in the books 6:07 Ash and Grimm dont exist in the books 3:43 Sophias dad thing isnt in the books (I dont know the rest so soemone tell us the rest it)

I have low empathy, but high sympathy. Comes from being autistic, in my case. It means i can sympathize with their issue, but i won't experience their emotions until i experience their exact issue. So if i have experienced their problems somewhere in my own past, I'll pause and cry with them. Doesn't make me a psycho, it just makes me someone who has difficulty with emotions.

One thing I find really funny about this show is the animation… like, most of the time when horses and riding is animated, there’s always a problem with the horses, more specifically, the legs. But no! That part of the animation is pretty good. The way they animated the riding how ever, especially during the gallop bits… let’s just say that they are very bouncy and would destroy the horses back if they were realXD these are supposed to be mostly experienced equestrians but they have such a bad seat! As someone who’s been riding for 15+ years, it hurts to watchXD

7:37 I always thought black characters having electric/lightening powers was a trope because the artists/character designers focused on the colour scheme matching the skin tone instead of focusing on any other obvious feature. Yellow tends to look good against black skin as do whites and and some lighter blues/teals (which also go with the electric/lightening themes). It's similar to red head being the fiery type more often than the Poison Ivy type.

(Writing this before watching the video) I love unicorn academy I saw it on Netflix and thought oh cute unicorns While watching episode one I stopped It was very „cringe“ especially Ava and I just couldn’t but then like 2 days after I decided to continue because why not Then I saw the potential It has very good animation in my opinion The voice acting isn’t bad The story is great The thing that makes this „bad“ is the execution I can see what they were trying to do or what it could have been but it was just made poorly and I can see past all that and still enjoy it but a lot of people can’t sadly Something I also enjoy is the unicorns abilities Like you would expect the prankster of the group to get something like invisibility, illusions or stuff like that but no he got storm The smart girl got ice The „mean“ girl got fire The sporty girl got water The „kind“ girl got plants/nature These still fit to the characters but you wouldn’t immediately expect that (We don’t talk about Sofia she got the basic main character power) Also I feel like each unicorn has a different model They look slightly different which I really enjoy They aren’t just copies of eachother I also like that there are men and boys and it’s never an issue If the writing was executed better this show could be a huge hit (After watching) I’m somewhat actively watching the unicorn academy TikTok and KZbin and I once commented „UNICORN ACADEMY DROP SEASON 3 AND MY LIFE IS YOURS“ as a joke reference and they replied (to someone else tho) „Fingers crossed 🤞“ so it seems they want a season 3 and a lot of people in their comment section are saying that they NEED a s3 (same) I do Hope if S3 is made that the writing becomes better

And Wildstar reminds me of Rainbow Dash because of the rainbow mane. I love the unicorn and Sophia's colorful hair. And I love the theme song and it's tune. Honestly I love this show and as much I think her bringing her dad is satisfying ending it’s also only barely cuz not that Grimoria is back there’s SO much potential for new villains and challenges and it would just be sad (in my opinion) if these amazing girls and their whole world can’t exist without her dad as a constant for Sofia 😪 I mean yeah great that she has dad back but there’s SO much left of that world to see which should be intriguing no matter which way you spin it.

From my own observations while babysitting and stuff, it seems like shows / movies for the “elementary schooler demographic” are largely disappearing due to youtube. Kids seem a lot more interested in watching minecraft lets plays than TV shows :(

Me and my lil brother (both grown adults who binged this kids show the day we saw it on Netflix) have so many headcanons alrd. Like we HC the MC and the mean girl as enemies to lovers bc they have romantic tension lmao. We also both hate Ava bc she’s annoying and makes everything abt herself. Also the prancing dude is gay and the smart girlie is Aro/Ace and better then everyone else lol

After My Little Pony G4 success I seen you to review several magical fantasy girls toy based cartoon franchises from the 2010s decade on your channel such as Monster High, Ever After High & Lego Elves ETC now I'm wishing they were all instead released in the mid to late 90s and all of 2000s decade because toy demand was higher back then and lack of strong girls doll competition and variety outside of Barbie and Bratz.

Hey, I've actually watched this one! I only watched 4-5 episodes before I stopped, because I have the attention span of a sparrow. It seemed okay. Also. Horses can live to be 30 to 40 years old and they're unicorns so... probably immortal or they can live to 1000 or something. Also,also.... the kid who came back to steal a unicorn. Do they not have memory erasure or something?! Do they invite like dozens of people to unicorn academy each year and send them back when they fail with the memory of magic existing but they don't get to have access to it?! The Men In Black Approach or erasing memories when they choose to leave or fail recruitment, seems reasonable because why leave them with what might be painful or sour memories?
