You're certainly right that manners go a long way...I always say 'Would you please consider $ x. And most of the time a seller says, 'Yes, because you asked so nicely' and then go on to say that they had turned down the same offer from people who have who grunted or demanded. As always, such a well presented clip, thank you

Lots of good advice and manner lessons. I do sell craft kits and supplies. They usually sell fairly quickly for me and are easy shippers. Some can sell for high $ and usually are low cost. Thanks for sharing.

10:53minutes in...Newhall. My maternal grandfather (and grandmother) name was Newhall. My grandmother had looked her entire life at estate sales, yard sales, tag sales, rummage sales, flea markets, etc. looking for Newhall China, with no success. Then eBay came along! I started my account in 1998 and in short order was able to fulfill her dream (even after my grandfather had died) to find and collect Newhall China. She had researched for decades his family lineage and new he was part of the line tied to Newhall China. She lived to be 86 years old and died about 20 years ago. It was one of most memorable experiences with her - to see her face when I presented her with pieces. I went on to purchase other pieces for family - but it was HER reaction that is most precious to me. Thank you for reminding me WHY connecting vintage or antique items to a buyer may be the facilitator to dreams fulfilled. Priceless.

Oh my, the lady with the dollar made me cringe just hearing about it! Kindness and respect win every time. I have really done very little with garage and estate sales, your videos are an encouragement to try. Thanks for showing us your sweet turtle visitor. 🐢

I just love all the quilts and afghans! And, I'm a very social person, too. How sad that we need to remind people to be polite! A great video!

Great video. If someone flipped a dollar at me in a rude manner I wouldn't hesitate to let them know I'd rather throw the item in the trash. People can be so rude. I love chatting with people but I won't let anyone get away with being blatantly rude. The pot that you thought was an interesting shape is what my pots look like. They were all my grandmothers and I see no reason to replace what works well.
@AvanteAvenue Жыл бұрын
Yep. As to your pots, I love that! We still use a worn out multi-size lid from Mark’s parents home! Thanks Laura!

Love these excursions out. At the church rummage sale you passed by a finished needlepoint piece that was unframed. I recently saw some at the thrift store, 2 pieces for $15 and sold them for $65. They are a hot item now apparently. Another estate sale recently I went on day 1 and purchased several things, then went back the next 2 days and purchased more. On the last day I went later in the day where they went to 60% off, I purchased more great vintage stuff. At the very end I found a few more items, the guy running the sale let me have those because I was so nice to them the previous days and had purchased quite a bit. Kindness always counts! Thank you for these great videos.

Wonderful! Another one this Thursday. You see, I'm "behind the scenes" right now as I'm healing from a biopsy on my face....so I'm digging in my archives and the next video happens to be a Shop Along too. Thank you for the reminder on needlepoint. I am aware that it can sell but I've never slowed down enough to check sold comps. Thanks for sharing your tips with everyone! Thank you!

I do love to look at Jewelry. There were a few things I would have picked up. The Cuff-links, and one or two of the Necklaces. I like to feel their weight. That is always helpful. A few of the houses looked like houses I used to help clean for elderly ladies. I wonder about them often. If they are still around or ? in nursing homes. or? The Box Terrapin is very beautiful. I learned alot about them recently. I have a few around here. They hatch in early August. The one you found was about 2 or 3. Their patterns are like finger prints they are all so uniquely beautiful. I often see wild life here. I remember once when I had a yard sale there, an elderly women came up and asked me if I had any whillsts...It took me a few minutes to realize she was asking for Quilts. I still find mysel missing the accents and the people. Thanks for the tips!

I’ve been known to buy it all! The jewelry, that is! I’m sure I did pass up some good pieces but I have so much to list. The estate sale house with the apple kitchen decor was so sweet. It was so hard to see the yarn knotted quilts going out the door for only $3 each. The lady who made those had hours and hours of work in them and they were sold for basically nothing. The accents here are sweet! We meet lovely locals all the time. Thanks Wren! Glad you can come back to TN thru my videos!

I recently went to a large HOA sale in a high dollar neighborhood; I continuously ran into a terrible woman who was so pushy with her wanting a deal. She kept badgering this retired couple on the price of flower pots. Poor couple, they finally had to firmly tell her No! I even piped in as she was clearly trying to confuse them!! Don’t be “that guy!”
@AvanteAvenue Жыл бұрын
Good for the couple to say “no!” Thanks for sharing your observation of what not to do.

Great video! Oh gosh all your tips and comments were so true. I do love to look at jewelry although I have too much stock already. And my luck with cross stitch kits has been hit or miss (more miss) however…..as you were sorting, it appeared to me (& I am often wrong) that you laid kits down on a completed floral needlepoint on green background. Those usually sell decently for me! Thanks again!
@AvanteAvenue Жыл бұрын
It was awkward to share some of my "tips" but I have witnessed them to be true. I may have missed a completed needlepoint piece at the church sale. I've never bought them to resell. Perhaps, I should taken a second look. How much can they go for? (range). Thanks Maureen!
