Nice tribute. And you’re right about his super star status back in the day, but the sold out concert tour I attended in 2012 was just as electric as the one I attended in 1976. The man is an icon.

Neil Diamond is one of those artists whose songs have made me happy through all of the years. He's got one of those distinctive voices that when I hear it, I know it's him immediately. I am a major Bowie fan. I own some concert video's in my music collection. They are all Bowie except for one. You guessed it. It's Neil Diamond. Thanks for covering this great artist. By the way, I live in Memphis.

You would get along great with my sister - major Bowie fan, also loves blasting Neil in the car. Thanks for watching, Mary Elizabeth!

@@timelesspoprocksoul I know you've spoken about her great love for Bowie. We would get along brilliantly and never not have anything to talk about. I have just recently subscribed to your channel and today (as I do every day) I was practicing my guitar and did a couple ELO songs and a couple Jim Croce songs as well. I do believe Jeff Lynne from ELO is a superior song writer among his other musical talents. Have you covered ELO or Jim Croce yet? And ..you're most welcome. I love the songs you love so it seems and I enjoy listening to all of your knowledge on the subject at hand plus.. This is a big plus.. I love your passion for the song as it plays. You REALLY feel it and I can relate so , you're a pleasure to watch. As Bowie liked to sign off... "Love on ya, "!!!

@@maryelizabethreynoldsprice2135 Thanks for the kind words. I did a video a few months ago for my favorite ELO song, Can’t Get It Out Of My Head.

Thank you for playing and reacting and giving us background on "Holly Holy" by Neil Diamond. I agree with you on music being a great antidote to dealing with stresses of all kinds including feeling down. Check out Neil performing the song "Dry Your Eyes" with The Band on the great concert film "The Last Waltz" kzbin.info/www/bejne/h5eZZId8na5-jpY. Take care.

Thanks, FrankieD. I always forget that Neil was part of The Last Waltz. Didn’t Robbie Robertson produce an album for Neil back then, as well? Maybe it was Beautiful Noise? Thanks for the link - I’ll check it out! Be well.

@@timelesspoprocksoul By the way, I am the same Frank as before. My son told me it would be best for me not to use my full name on KZbin or other social media (KZbin is the only one I am on) because it leads to abuse by trolls and others and scammers. Also, you really know your music. You are right--Robbie Robertson did produce "Beautiful Noise", but I had to look it up to confirm it. Thanks for your channel. Take care.

Nice and thorough review of this excellent song, arguably his best, but I think that Neil Diamond is often done injustice by always focusing on those early days (sixties/seventies) as if he hasn't done anything worthwhile afterwards. While I agree that his sixties and seventies output was amazing and his eighties albums quite forgettable, some of his most recent albums, 12 Songs (2005) and Home Before Dark (2008), were among his best and worldwide most critically acclaimed albums ever. Home Before Dark even hit the #1 spot on both sides of the Atlantic. Some excerpts from reviews: "12 Songs is a triumph: the sound of a master falling in love with his craft all over again". "Home Before Dark is an album of rare beauty, grace, and eloquence". When I listen to those records, and to Melody Road (2015), I hear an artist who aged gracefully and wrote some of his best songs in the latter stage of his career. I sincerely hope he'll be able to release one last album of self-written songs.

When talking about Neil Diamond, we are talking about two different men. The young Neil Diamond, struggling with himself and the world, got "lost between two shores", had his battles with depression, and was very open and self reflecting in his songs. A storyteller, a singer and songwriter par excellence. And the other Neil Diamond, thanks his public for his success by becoming a perfect entertainer. Every concert was made to make the public happy, every new song was about what the people wanted to hear. I'm sorry, but I absolutely prefer the first one.
