So glad that you love Neil Diamond. I am 72 years old now when I was at college in the 70s, I went to see Neil Diamond perform live. I had everyone of his albums my roommate complain that all I did was play Neil Diamond albums.😂 It was the same songs, but he performed them very differently. He stood on stage in front of a small band and just played his guitar. I'll never forget he had on a buckskin jacket with fringe and jeans. He was fabulous after the show I got his Autograph! More Neil Diamond please!

One of my favorite singer songwriters spanning many decades. I had so many of his records. He had tons of hit songs. "I Am, I Said" is one of my favorites. It is almost an autobiography of Neil's life. Other songs are "Cherry, Cherry", "Sweet Caroline", "Kentucky Woman", "Red Red Wine", "Solitary Man", "Holly Holy", "Cracklin' Rosie", "Song Sung Blue", "Forever In Blue Jeans", "Longfellow Serenade", "Desirée", "You Don't Bring Me Flowers" etc. He has sold more than 130 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling musicians of all time. I was privileged to see him in concert twice. He was a great showman & his live performances were memorable. Sadly he was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 2018.

"The chair" refers to a form of healing therapy where one is simply speaking their feelings about what they're going through to an empty chair. Neil had just gone through a divorce before his career landed him in L.A., and was having a very hard time adjusting.

The first time i heard this song it broke me. I finally felt like someone else in the world understood how lost, how lonely, how without a home i too felt. All these decades later i still feel the same way. I've lived all over the world. I have so many wonderful memories of wonderful people, different cultures, and friendship. But, i still feel like a man without a home, without a place in the world. This song is one i know in my heart and soul. It's beautiful! That's why it's a great song. Virtually everyone can relate to this song at some point in their life.

Home is my wife. Born in Boston, lived in San Francisco and suddenly no place felt like home.Through my twenties and early thirties just lost. My dad was raised by his grandfather and grandmother who immigrated to Boston from Poland in 1905. He (my dad) always said because he never knew his own father he was grateful to grandfather and grandmother for giving him identity, This song always brought a tear to my old man's eye...when my brothers and i would see it. Love Neil Diamond

I was nine when this came out and my older sister was a fan of his. She bought all his albums and I got to listen to them a lot, since she and I shared a bedroom until I was twelve. I loved his music, but this song took on a whole new meaning when I had to move to Texas for my senior year of high school after living in Virginia for five years. My dad was in the Air Force. I’ve never felt like I really fully belonged anywhere, although I’m pretty settled in after twenty three years back in California, where we lived when I was a kid (and where I became a Neil Diamond fan🥰).

Neil Diamond is my favorite singer/songwriter. He is giving us a look into his psyche. No matter how famous he became. And all the millions of gold and platinum records he sold. All the sold-out concert halls and stadiums. The many variety television shows and movies he was in. He still had this feeling of loneliness that just wouldn't let go of him. "I Never Care for the Sound of Being Alone"-ND. When speaking to his therapist about this problem of emptiness and loneliness. Not even the therapist was listening to him (The Chair). Love your reaction to one of the greatest singer/songwriters of all times. Epic.

I grew up in Los Angeles....you couldn't pay me to go back. I spent 22 years in the US Army, lived all over the US and even lived 6 years in Stuttgart Germany. My last job in the Army ended me up in South Central Pennsylvania......Amish Country as they call it. Probably as far away from my Los Angeles upbringing as you could imagine. I've now lived here over 15 years and find it hard to imagine living anywhere else. It's quiet....Peaceful. I want for nothing really.....and I feed my 10-15 head of deer in my backyard (along with the rest of animals in the area). Priorities change as we age. What I thought was important even 10 years ago is different today. Don't get me wrong....growing up in LA, in the 70s and 80s, was incredible. But....LA hasn't been my home for over 30 years. This is what I've missed in modern music.....The Singer/Songwriter....the Story Teller.....

Always love to hear you two . Neil Diamond is much underrated outside of a few classics but he was a top class songwriter and performer . I f you get the chance , the live album " Hot August Night " is a classic complete-gig live album . Glad to hear you have moved to Romania , sorry to hear you are no longer here in the UK . Our loss . If you get the chance , may I recommend Kris Kristofferson " To Beat The Devil " from his album " Me and Bobby McGee " . Dedicated to his friends , Johnny and June ( Cash ) . it is a song of love and critical thinking and never giving up on the things you know are true .To Beat The Devil ...

The Boston Red Sox baseball club and their fans adopted Neil Diamond’s “Sweet Caroline” as a sing-along in the middle of the 8th inning of every home game since 2002. By 2013, so called true fans got tired of the song and the “pink hats”, what they saw as Johnny-come-lately fans and those who came to Fenway Park for the experience rather than rooting on the ball club. Then 2013 and the marathon bombing happened. Boston officials did the unthinkable for a major city. Boston was locked down tight while authorities successfully hunted down the terrorists responsible for the attack. I live in Rhode Island and worked in Boston at that time. Afterwards, the first game played at the park was remarkable for two events. Given a microphone, superstar player David Ortiz would announce to the crowd in a nationally televised pregame ceremony that “This is our F* king city, and no one is going to dictate our freedom”. It was an incredible moment and one the FCC refused to fine Ortiz, the Red Sox or the television station for obscene language, suggesting in this case it was acceptable . At the same game, an older gentleman in a ball cap appeared at the box office. “I’m Neil Diamond and I need to sing my song tonight”. And in the middle of the 8th, he was escorted to the field and led the crowd in the singing of Sweet Caroline. The Red Sox, expected to be a mediocre team at best played their hearts out for Boston that year and would win the World Series. And I’ve never heard a disparaging word about Sweet Caroline since.

"They" say you can never go home again. Truth! I left England and lived in Germany for 4 years. Then I moved to the USA; firstly Alabama and then California. I've loved my 43 years in the USA but I regularly find myself longing for "home" but "home" doesn't exist any more. My grandparents, parents, aunts and uncles are all passed and my 6 siblings are scattered around the UK with their own children and grandchildren. Their lives have gone forward, as has mine but I long for a place and time that I can't have back.

And occasionally playful with each other (more of that please-it's so heartwarming). I want to suggest a song you will absolutely LOVE and we all would immensely enjoy you reacting to. It's a performance by Roberta Flack called "First Time Ever I Saw Your Face". It's such an unbelievably romantic song and her voice will blow you away! I do hope you find it soon! Please let it be the first time you hear it as you react. We can't wait!!!!!!!!!!

Not really my kind of music, but as a student I worked in a record store where I heard his live album Hot August Night 1972. “Hats off” brilliant performance, especially the final song package Soolaimon/Brother Love's Traveling Salvation Show, unique. Of course, ND later ended up performing in Las Vegas.

I wore out the grooves on that album. So glad I bought it on CD and now have it in my ITunes. The vinyl might get old from playing so much but the music does not get old.
