I think Neil (Who is the smartest guy on stage) firmly believes "It is best to be silent, and thought a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt".
@420captain4 жыл бұрын
That is such a true and great statement and I would bet you are correct that Neil felt that way, but I think Neil would also speak his mind and not be afraid of saying something a little or even a lot "controversial". I don't think he relished being controversial for the sake of being controversial unless there was a serious point he would be trying to make. RIP Mr. Peart

Neil distanced himself from all the Ayn Rand stuff later on, as he got older. He basically attributed it to young angst. Neil, as any true intellectual should, changed his thoughts and beliefs as he matured and became more informed.

haha I don't think so. My mom was at that concert in the rain and it was like a religious experience. Diana is a diva however and probably has a flare for the dramatic plus her ghost writer sounds like someone who writes dramatic or romantic novels moonlighting as a biographer. Also her husband did climb mountains and died in a climbing accident in 2004, so while the comparison in the book was dramatic he it was true...

Astonishing intolerance of alcoholics. If you've ever had one in your family, Neil, you'd know that it's not victim-hood. and it's not abdicating responsibility, simply a recognition of an inability to control their drinking. I have family members who I'm sure wished it was their fault, i.e. being weak willed, and could have just stopped. I respect Peart's abilities, but from what I've read and heard, he seems like a bit of an A-hole.Don't misunderstand, I've been a Rush fan since 77, and that hasn't changed in the least. That doesn't mean I can't recognize the man's failings.
@NibsNiven9 жыл бұрын
AthensGuitarLessons "Astonishing intolerance of alcoholics." I don't think you understand what Peart was saying.
@dmstewart665 жыл бұрын
I think you are missing the whole topic of conversation here. Neil is not saying drunks claimed victimhood. They are having a conversation about societies sense of humor about finding drunks funny. Neil merely pointed out that the fact that we have become so sensitive to the victims of alcoholism that we have stopped seeing the good old fashioned humor in the character of the classic drunk (which predates even Shakespeare). He was not talking at all about actually alcoholics, just making a statement on why society dont find them as funny as they used to.
