No it’s YOU who should do your homework. The ORIGINAL Dream Girls musical was a play that premiered on broadway on December 20th 1981 was one of the biggest broadway successes ever! It ran until August 11th 1985. The role of Effie was originally played by Jennifer Holiday. Jennifer Holiday became world renowned for that role, even won the Tony Award for acting in 1982 and won the Grammy in 1983 for the song she made famous: ”And I Am Telling You I Ain’t Going”. How do you not know this? I’m 52 years old. Maybe you are the one that’s too young. The original Dream Girls musical is one of the most critically acclaimed and celebrated broadways productions ever! It’s STILL talked about starring Jennifer Holiday, Sheryl Lee Ralph and Loretta Devine as the 3 main lead characters and with a mostly black cast! Jennifer Hudson did the “movie” version 25 years later and the Broadway version is still the better version. Google Jennifer Holiday and dream girls and watch her original performance. Before criticizing please take your own advice and do your research!
