There are different types of defenders, so personally I don't like to compare and say this player was better than this player, unless both players were similar in what they offer the team. Vidic was an animal in defence, he would run through a brick wall to get to the ball first and the only time you would worry about him is if he was on the floor injured, because you knew that this guy was definitely 100% injured, not like most footballers who go down like they've been shot and minutes later are running around like nothing happened. If I had to choose 2 defenders from the moment I first started watching football, until present day, vidic would be one of them.

Vidic’s comment about mentality is great! The players need to be under pressure. They are too comfortable. The annoying thing about Ten Hag was that he had good young players like Amass and Fernandez(sold), but he insisted on playing a right back. He did the same last season. It is crazy to keep doing the same mistake and expect that results will improve. I hope Amorim gives the squad a reality check and if they do not perform, give a chance to youngsters!

I think Vidic brings up a great point: there is not enough competition for places at Manchester United. Competition drives players to try and win a starting role and keep it. Too many players are far too comfortable, knowing there is no one who is going to challenge them for a spot. I also think too many promises are made to players when signing for the club. The only promise should be: "If you train well and work hard, you will get your chance. If you do not, you will either never get a chance, or you will lose the chance you were given." Simple as that.

It makes sense. When you listen to Patrice Evra talk about playing for United, he was scared to disappoint his manager. It wasn’t pressure coming from fans or the press. It was about playing well for Sir Alex and winning. From what I’ve seen of Amorim, he gets his players to buy in to what they are doing. If his new players truly want it, they will improve.

Vidic isn’t caught up in blaming the manager. He understands that it's ultimately the players who win matches. The team’s success comes down to the players on the field, and a critical part of a player's skill set is their character. Mental strength and determination should be the top priorities in a player's genetic makeup. He's not engaging in a game of whether the manager can do this or that; instead, he’s focused on whether the players can step up and deliver.
@keyjones16787 күн бұрын
That's a good assessment. I would agree to an extent, most notably against Spurs in the first half, and after the second goal against Liverpool, the team looked defeated, and I guess that's down to some individuals character. It's a results business, but what doesn't get mentioned enough is the bit of luck you need in football, and we've had terrible luck. We are joint top for the most times a team has hit the woodwork and top for the most big chances missed. It's literally a matter of inches; the other way, and a quarter of those chances went in, we would be in the top 4. I know it's the responsibility of the players to put them away, but it's not only the chances; it's injuries and penalties that shouldn't have been given red cards that shouldn't have been given. The list goes on. I don't think we're as bad as the media or our position in the table suggests. I am also not naive enough to think that we don't need to improve; that's not what I am saying.

@@keyjones1678 I hear you, buh I blame Dalot for many matches. His inability to execute the BASICS of his position was SABOTAGE. With a deep dissection, Dalot threw Erik Ten Hag under the bus. Yes we had no luck on our side, buh these players could not execute the simple instructions from Erik Ten Hag. Like Benny said, the trainin' was quality, everythin' was peak in trainin', buh come matchday, the players become lost in the ability to do their jobs from the game plan laid out. So luck or no luck, these guys did not execute the BASICS.
