I understood the “Somewhere between the 0’s and 1’s” to be referencing them discovering themselves as nonbinary, Nemo uses binary code to describe the binary which is male and female. So by saying they found their kingdom between the 0s and 1s, Nemo says they found themselves and their own identity between male and female

I absolutely love this. Drum & bass opera rock rap from Switzerland, it's everything I didn't know I wanted and it absolutely sends chills down my spine. Yes, this has the "gravitas" we were talking about earlier. It's fascinating and so well constructed. Love the details, the train ticket that says "non standard" from Zürich to Malmö, the lyrics ("between the 0's and 1's", the binary code)... where I have no idea what Luna means with the tower, I immediately knew what Nemo means with the code. It's wonderful! Now the question remains how this will work out on stage, but there are so many great ideas here. I sort of have the feeling this could be the jury winner... Fantastic job Switzerland!

This song gave me whiplash in the best way, the artist actually got leaked the day before and me and my friends looked at their music and it seemed very harmless and indie, so we weren’t really expecting anything much from Switzerland this year, and then they come out with THIS, this was SO unexpected in the best way possible. It’s a lot, but it works, I couldn’t stop listening to it and it jumped straight to my number 1, it’s addictive to listen to. I honestly think that this could be a winner. It instantly captured my attention from the first 16 seconds. By the 2 minute mark I felt surprised that there was still a minute left of the song because I had already been on such a journey. And it had so many ups and downs in the music that really play with your emotions. When you look at the structure of the song it is still a conventional pop song form but because they do something different with the music in each verse/chorus it never feels like it gets stale. Yes some people might not like it for trying to cram too much in but you are never going to please everybody with one song. If they can stage it well and he sings well then I honestly think that he has a chance of the win. He is trained performer and his background is musical theatre so i have no doubts that he can pull it off. It might be a slow burner in the odds like Conchita or Sam Ryder but i really do think that it is quality and seems to be getting a lot of positive reactions.

The Swiss delegation: "Nemo, do you want to enter something pop? drum & bass? opera? theatrical?" Nemo: "Yes" 😂 Well, the Swiss came out swinging! Its an unusual song constructed by melding so many genres and sounds together, but it really works because it sounds quirky, yet serious enough for it to not be taken as a joke. Im loving this, but by the third half of the song, i do find myself losing that "wow" moment and my ears search for something else to pick out. Not a negative, but the visuals completely elevate this. And if they deliver an interesting, conceptual staging inspired by the video, then they'll get an amazing result. Great job the Swiss! ❤

There are very eclectic artists/bands outside of the mainstream - this one from Nemo still sounds "pop" and the only one which grabbed my attention together with Angelina Mango's La Noia (out of all the eurovision entries for this year). Both offers plenty of surprises in their songs and performances but Code is more "singable" (despite the weirdness) and could reach Conchita Wurst's drama if well staged....while La Noia offers more in terms of rhythm and dance. Judging from the many others reactions I've seen so far; Nemo has got a real chance to win - yes, the general public is ready for avantguard and arty songs. 12 points from Italy.

This is probably the second entry where I've been super eager to hear it live (the first was Veronika). The falsetto has been compressed and layered to give it some volume in the studio version, but their technique still shows through it and there's a lot of clever tricks going on "the co-woah-oh" instead of "the code" when singing in non-spoken word parts. First verse is really just a very nasal spoken word with some tremolo thrown in and some texture, but the falsetto staccato is sampled straight from the queen of the night aria from the magic flute opera, though slightly faster, and I need to hear them doing that live lol. The long melisma near the end of the song isn't as challenging as it seems but the difficulty with falsetto is knowing how to resonate it to give it volume and power without it sounding harsh to the ears, so that's the real challenge for them in that regard. I caught in the video at around 2:12 a single note in their falsetto which hadn't been layered and compressed, which was much quieter than the rest of the track and a notable difference to their head voice (which sounds similar to loic nottet when it's not nasal), but because of their technique elsewhere and all the technical tricks they did in the song I'm very eager to hear them in a live setting. If they can replicate the studio to a live performance then this is a serious contender to win overall, and I think will be guaranteed a top 3 spot with juries. They do tend to spend a lot of time in that nasal area, and personally I think they sound much better down in the pharyngeal area, but to each their own. The vocals aside, the other thing I'm really impressed with is the composition itself; it's quite the genre-clash but it still has a good progressive flow and nothing feels unnatural musically. It's quite artistic and contemporary, and in that regard reminds me a lot of Veronika (also quite artistic and contemporary).

Tom, I have had another look at this video and boy is it a revelation to me. Being a parent of a non binary child I get it. To me the corridor scene is representative of the babe in the womb, pre determined but unrealised at the time. The song and the music video are insane. I also didn’t have any problems with the mix of music genres - to me, the transitions felt very creative but natural. I do hope that the atmosphere of the music video can somehow be transferred to the Eurovision stage. The thing is, that Sacha Jean-Baptiste, who regularly does the staging for Switzerland, normally ignores the music videos completely, which can be a good thing (Boys don’t cry) or also a bad thing (tout l’univers). So as you said, adding another person to do the staging, might be a good idea.
