A lot of their early songs were written and arranged by Kensuke Akiyama. Akiyama-san parted ways with Nemophila around Easter 2024 - the same time that guitarist Saki (on our right as we watch this video) left the band. The band have always written songs but since they've become a four-piece they are now writing the majority of their material. The band was put together as a session band to back Mayu, the lead singer. They got on so well musically, and as people, that they decided to stay together as a full-time band. Saki, who left this year, was key to setting up the band and getting things moving. She was in the well-known, all-female, Japanese metal band Mary's Blood for 10 years and was the most experienced of Nemophila's original five members - also the oldest member, she's now 34. The next oldest is drummer Tamu, 32, who is also mother to two small children. Tamu is a well-known and respected drummer who made a name for herself on KZbin when she was younger. She was also in a band called SORAMIMI who had modest success a few years before Nemophila formed. Then comes guitarist Hazuki, formerly of all-female metal band Disqualia. Hazuki is also in the band KOIAI with Li-sa-X, another amazing guitarist. Lead vocalist Mayu and bassist Haraguchisan (AKA Hara-chan) are the two youngest members, about the same age. Mayu, who is mother to a young son, was previously in a band called Lipstick. There is video on KZbin of Hara-chan playing in a band called HöLDERLINS, but it's quite hard to find much information about her tenure there.

Thanks for all this info! I'm planning to check out as many of the songs on their channel as I can from oldest to most recent and get the full experience ✌️

This was their first original they recorded I believe. This studio version is like a demo in many ways. They perfected the song even more especially the solo section. Try the live 2023 version too it kicks ass. Now since Saki left they play it a bit differently adding in bass solo and some more bass fill in along with drum fill ins. Its been one of my top favs from them even with the new version with just the 4 of them.

So glad you picked this demo. Watch the 2023 concert performance next. It’s an original song, but the girls didn’t write it. Wikipedia will tell you what an OIRAN is. The “blecch” at the end is a Death Metal trope.

Also, if you get a moment check out a newer LIVE version of this song. It's better in every way. 🤘 kzbin.info/www/bejne/a6Kkc6GceM2jmM0

Nice reaction. Check out Adabana, Seize the fate or Life. Happy new year🎉
Great reaction to NEMOPHILA! For a live performance check out 'Zen' live. It's one of their hardest and best songs if you like Mayu's harsh vocals. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oWLcgZV4h615o9U

No. An OIRAN is something altogether different.

@@Greg-om2hb OK, excuse my lacking English language. An Oiran is a high ranked courtesan. Expensive and skilled in giving pleasure. A kind of luxury prostitute.

@@Greg-om2hb My bad, but not entirely different. An Oiran is an expensive and high ranked courtesan, a kind of luxury prostitute. Many oiran became famous and powerful.

@@Greg-om2hb I wouldn't say "altogether" different, but they weren't specifically reserved for Emperors nor necessarily held as concubines (though they could be). During the Edo period, they were the highest class of courtesans, trained in higher levels of entertainment than just the usual arts of prostitution (though they engaged in those as well).

Great song, but this is not the best version. This was an early recording, before they'd really perfected the guitar solo section. The live version is the iconic real deal.

Fully agree.

The fully live version is probably the best quality, but the audience-less live version from Naon na Yaon is my personal favorite version, largely due to Hazuki's and Haraguchi-san's antics.
