Enhancers simply make themselves or objects/tools they hold better, stronger, faster etc. It is also not a falsely named category, it is pretty on point. Mineta is also not an enhancer, he conjures balls from his head. Please try again. Momo is also not an enhancer, she is a conjurer. She doesnt enhance her body nor does mineta, they each create something from that body. That is literally not enhancement no matter how you look at it. I think you personally are looking too much into this. Also, if it is ‘many’ as in characters don’t understand enhancements I would maybe agree with you. But more strongly, I think Togashi himself barely understands it since like Manipulators the type has some pretty soft limits. We don’t ‘know’ if you can just enhance your healing factor like deadpool as an ability or enhance your bones to make yourself invulnerable or something. Both types are just under utilized. What you might be thinking with your examples, even though they are the furthest thing from enhancers are manipulators. Which also manipulate the body just to make it more confusing, but it is not limited to that. So no, Enhancers are the easiest type. Basically “I make myself or things I hold better then before.” With the limit only being range since support enhancers, uhh, supposedly are very rare since most just want to make the body stronger.

If you are an enhancer you seemingly have the most potential for learning other nen types as you are the only nen type without a 40% aptitude in another type, its lowest being 60% meaning enhancers can have a pretty good all around arsenal. Take transmuters for example. They have 100% proficiency in transmutation, 80% in enhancement and conjuration, 60% in emission, and 40% in manipulation.

Except every Enhancer that we've seen in the series so far only relies on brute strength. We don't see any of the diversity in application of other Nen categories as we do with other Nen users with affinities for the other categories. The Only Exception I can think of off the top of my head is Isaac Netero, and even then he's the exception and not the rule.

Hunter x hunter did it really well, making it very diversified for lots of opportunities to create interesting abilities, and just in case things don’t make sense, they also added in specialists

About netero being an enchancer, it's interesting to point out that he kinda fits hisoka's scheme, because he spent a big part of his life training ruthlessly with the only objective of becoming as strong as possible and finding an oponent as strong as possible, also what @Big Dylsaster said makes sense, and would explain why he's so proficient in every other nen type except specialization. In the anime it's hinted at that his power comes from that same simple mindedness and determination of doing the same training regime every single day, and it appears he developed his 100 type guanyin much later in his life.

I don't think Enhancement is involved in the process, it's just the result of Netero's natural training. I think this is especially true because using aura to increase your speed is a waste of aura that could be used for combat. Why do that instead of creating an ability specifically designed to increase speed? And the Kannon's Condition is that Netero must perform the praying motion.

Although, with the insane restrictions of only being limited to Gungi and requiring her to kill herself if she ever loses, it's WAY more powerful than a more general application of this concept should be.

Well, enhancers also get two parallel affinities. Transmuting and Emission. So they are in a position to transmute their aura and then detach it from themselves. They really should use that more. If Silva can throw his balls despite being a natural transmuter and Zeno can send his dragons out (that has to be emission and manipulation right?) for miles despite being a transmuter, then natural Enhancers should definitely have tons of power to both transmute and emit simultaneously.

Quite the opposite Many think Enhncment is the strongest type despite having many limitations and weaknesses on its own Enhancers are seen as very strong because they can put out as much offense as they can defend themselves. They also tend to get stronger at quicker rates since most of their Hatus’s are basic applications of Nen but honed to the highest degree

Recently, Komugi was confirmed to be an enhancer, implying that she unconsciously uses the ability to enhance her mental acuity. In my eyes, this completely blows open the door for all kinda of other applications of enhancement. Melody, as an emitter, should have some decent skill with enhancement and that could be how she can hear people from kilometers away or discern their mental state just from hearing a heartbeat. On the other hand, it could just be a supernatural non-nen ability like Gon's keen sense of smell. On the other OTHER hand, there's really no proof that Gon's sense of smell is not also enhancement as it seems even better in the Chimera Ant arc, after he's learned how to use nen. Anyways, I just think this Komugi reveal makes enhancement almost as versatile as something like transmutation as there are so many aspects of the human body that you could enhance, even more aspects of non-human entities you could enhance.

I always thought that Netero's enhancement focus was speed, thus he took advantage of this and made a soft condition (pray before every attack) to make his Bodhisattva stronger. He might had also develop Guanyin when he ventured into the dark continent to better deal with the giant creatures there (or to safetly attack from a distance).

The advantage of Specialization is unpredictability even compared to the most versatile Nen categories, but as a disadvantage it possesses the lowest affinity for Enhancement. And Specialist abilities still require Conditions (also known as Restrictions and Limitations).

you could enhance your eyes for a faster reaction because light still needs time to get to your eye, or boost your speed by strengthening your leg muscle. you could even enhance your muscle density to a point you become a spear, skin hardness(thought processing, half-sleep had awake), brain usage, fingernails( nail knife), liver( more immunity to poisons), stomach(faster digestion to gain more nutrients), heart(also speed) there is a lot of possibilities

He's basically placing alot of aura into his attacks so like Ko, but it hits much harder. This causes it to require said charging time which makes it rather slow.

All I can think of is the Fighting type moves in pokemon like, Bulk up that raises the physical attack and defence of the user or the move 'Power up Punch' could be a Hastu as the users needs to it the opponent with a punch to increase the users strength. But this is just my own option.

Netero being an enhancer makes sense. The 100 hand was able to toss around and kinda do damage to meruem. It would make sense that netero would enhance the power of the 100 hand through this way. He also probably makes use of enhancement to be so damn fast.

That's a really interesting idea! I do think it's a very risky move. Wobble seems to like Kurapika, as... far as babies can voice their opinions, for all we know she just likes the shiny, red eyes. But even if he manages to get Wobble to trust Bill one hundred percent, Nen beasts act independently from their hosts. If the Prince's Nen beast, which we don't know anything about, feels threatened, it will kill Bill. And that's the best-case scenario. What if an condition is accidentally triggered? Prince Momoze's Nen Beast nearly wiped out the room in a couple of seconds and she was a pretty docile little girl.

Isn't that two types of nen? You can probably heal fast with enhancement but one of them has to be 100% and the other 80%. You cant perfect both. Either being as strong as killua or an instant heal. If you choose electricity, then you won't heal as fast

I think Palm's powers related to clairvoyance don't use an specific type of nen. Before her transformation, she needed that strange object she calls the Mermaid Corpse, that looks like is actually the corpse of a magic beast (like the Kirikos from the hunter exam arc). After her transformation, we see that she has a ball in her forehead that looks like the ball in the mermaid corpse. Also, she has scales now (mermaid scales?). I think Pouf and Pitou blended that object with Palm's body. There's also that scene where Knov says her blood is precious, so probably the mermaid corpse only works to her. Maybe she has some mermaid blood in her veins ?

I think enhancer is misunderstood a lot, i think even by the HXH characters, but i don't know about togashi's plans for it. However, the question is about what it "enhances", exactly? The rest, like manipulators, conjurators, emitters, and transmutation are self explanatory. Manipulate, make things appear, emit, make things change, etc. By definition then, enhancement is enhancement too ( i don't know how definition stands in japanese). So, in theory, nen users could enhance a property of its object, for example the sharpness of a sword, not just strenght or toughness. Enhance their nen, but also they may be able to enhance others. Remember about the objects said to contain the nen of their authors when they are masterpieces or they have put their wills on them? Would an enhancer be able to call or increase the nen of such objects, to awaken abilities within them? And what if an enhancer choose to do the reverse? Instead of enhancing, having an ability to decrease its properties or something? Maybe they can reach an specialization too, but its very difficult.

What about Gon instantly turning into an adult? Enhancement can obviously be used on more abstract conceptual traits than just the raw strength of a physical object. It's probably just that enhancers can be relatively simple combined with the fact that standard enhancement is already a pretty powerful tool for battle.

If I were an enhancer I would create a Hatsu that enhances my healing factor so that I could heal any wound (even fatal ones) but at the cost that however long that ability would take to heal naturally is deducted from my life-span so say it would take 3 years for a person to regrow their head after being decapitated that would mean my head would regrow in seconds but my life-span would be cut by 3 years. Sounds OP but it would be quite risky since I can only activate and deactivate it I wouldn’t be able to specify which sounds to heal meaning every time I get a tiny cut while my ability is activated I would lose some time off my life meaning if my opponent knew about my ability they would just continually bruise and or cut me until I die of old age assuming don’t end up deactivating the ability and leaving myself open to be killed. (If the ability was activated I would be able to survive any wound even being decapitated but it would still cost me my life later down the track) if I died without activating it I would be able to activate it after death but at the cost of half my lifespan.

His blind determination to learn nen allowed for him to fall into that darkness by the end even though it really wasn't the cause. Enhancers can reinforce their bodies with their aura, which means that part of Netero's ability is the speed at which he moves. The samurai in the Phantom Troupe (forgetting his name) probably reinforces his sword, as well as using his En to determine where his target is, and uses his Nen flow to strike the target as soon as they touch his bubble.
