Would be great to see Gamepass on Steam. But It's hard for me to imagine Microsoft willingly handing the gaming space to Valve. Once everything is playable on Steam OS, Windows is dead, and Microsoft knows that. Linux goes mainstream, and people realize it's way better than Windows in basically every way, and there goes all of Microsoft's data collection and ad revenue.

My biggest problem with some of this video is that you seem to assume that these companies actually care about consumer choice beyond its value as a marketing buzzword. Ultimately, when it comes down to what kind of products they produce and sell, consumer choice is the last thing on their minds. Assuming the rumors are true, Lenovo isn't producing both a SteamOS and Windows handheld to offer Consumer Choice, they're doing it to hedge their bets. Their thinking would be, "if the SteamOS handheld fails, at least we have a Windows one to fall back on". The fact that it aligns with consumer choice is just a happy little side effect. Similar can be said of Microsoft. The reason why they might be pushing Xbox Cloud Gaming on SteamOS is the more platforms its on, the more customers they can get and the more money they can make. Also, if Microsoft does make a Windows Handheld PC, it won't be to benefit the customer, it'll be to prop up their flagging marketshare. I personally think that Microsoft is working on an Xbox handheld that's going to be a dockable handheld in a similar vein to the Switch and it'll be their next gen console and I think Sony is doing something similar. Remember, console generations generally last roughly 7 years and we're currently in the fourth year of this generation (definitely doesn't feel like it, does it?), so it wouldn't surprise me if they're working on their handhelds now for a 2027-2028 Holiday release. And it's not like this is the first time Microsoft and Sony have ridden on Nintendo's coattails... Need I remind you of Kinect and Playstation Move?

If Microsoft reveals anything at the Lenovo event it would probably be a new Windows frontend for handhelds. Legion Go 2 is the perfect device to launch with a completely new Windows interface. I give it a 25% chance of ever seeing GamePass on Steamdeck, that would either require Valve to build a competing game store into steam itself, or Microsoft creating a GamePass launcher within Arch Linux, either case sounds pretty unlikely.
@Luke3577 күн бұрын

I think people are looking into that CES detail too much. Lenovo is showcasing multiple handheld models. One will run Windows, and one will run SteamOS. I really don't see it as any more than both Jason and Pierr-Loup needing to be there as spokespersons for the respective companies. If Xbox Game Pass was coming to SteamOS, data miners would have known about it the second something got pushed to SteamOS, and it really doesn't make sense, business wise, for Valve to include Game Pass in Steam. Not unless it's specifically for Xbox games only, like how EA Play is for EA games only. They also couldn't allow people to link their Xbox accounts and get Game Pass games that way because Valve wouldn't make any money off that and would be forced to honour all those game downloads for free. There is more of a chance that Valve makes their own Steam Pass, then work the entirety of Xbox Game Pass into SteamOS.

I have to politely disagree that the Xbox handheld will be the Levono Legion Go. The whole thing about Xbox is it’s a PC in console clothing. You can just install things and it will just work for the not so text savvy person. If this new Levono Legion Go came out and both companies said “this is the new Xbox handheld” I honestly think that would probably be a very lazy effort on Levono and Microsoft’s part. Full disclosure : I’m not an Xbox guy at all. I own a Steam Deck. I’m just very much fascinated by what each gaming tech company is doing handheld device wise.
