Messi is an organizer, he is the Architect of the team, he plans everything and execute with surgical precision, he constantly draws opponents to him to create pockets of space for his teammates to move in. Ronaldo is that guy that runs in a 4 x 100m relay as the 4th runner because he wants to cross the finish line himself, guess what, he still waiting for the stick to be handed to him. The debate was settled in 2009 when Messi beat Ronaldo in the UCL Final. They forced it to - until Messi wins an international, though Ronaldo didn’t win an International until 2016 that too from the bench. It should have been “Till Ronaldo beats Messi in a UCL final” ! Ronaldo-holics inflated his stats with that International achievement ( bench trophy)! When Messi won the COPA they said - not as good as EURO. Now he won the WC. Now they have nothing to say - so they are trying to tarnish his achievements.

In terms of numbers, one thing always gets ignored when it is IMHO actually the tie breaker: Messi: 5.22 shots per goal Ronaldo: 6.43 shots per goal Paired with the minutes-per-goal stat and the goals-per-game stat the big picture becomes clear. Ronaldo took more shots per game (i.e. chances that needed to be created for him) while still scoring fewer goals per game. Add to that Messi's superior playmaking qualities (as mirrored in the number of assists) and the debate is settled, at least in terms of objective criteria. On a subjective level, there will always be many reasons to prefer one over the other. And that is fine. Christiano's achievements are beyond impressive. Anyone who tries to downplay that for the sake of some GOAT debate is just a hater and/or fanboy. Same goes for endless claims of Messi's achievements being marred by playing for Barcelona for so long and inflationary use of the term "farmer league". What a giant pile of BS. Cheers everyone.

Messi having better shots per game shows Messi as a better and more efficient finisher. Add to that Messi still has more non-penalty goals than Ronaldo. Ronaldo just has more power, more shot power. Messi has more finesse, more precision-except on penalties. Messi can chip both with his weak foot. Not sure Ronaldo can. Yes Ronaldo is better with his head. But overall, if I'm to pick a striker of the two, I'd pick Messi.

As someone who was a huge Ronaldo fan in the Real Madrid era around 2014-2015, I can say Ronaldo has really fallen off due to his primadonna nature and I can't say I'm a fan of him anymore. He is still incredibly skilled, but Messi is much humbler and isn't out to fight with coaches/teammates/staff at the clubs he plays for. The whole Man United drama really soured my opinion of him. I have a lot more respect for Messi than Ronaldo now and do think Messi is the better player overall, especially now that time has passed and we can see how Messi has evolved.

I agree with many that the debate is forced due to business money. Messi is GOD and CR7 tried to become the best and became the second, but the gap between them is clear to everybody when Messi goes past 7 defenders regularly and CR7 does some nice fashion trick just before passing the ball backwards. Messi is better footballer, better finisher, better dribbler, better passer, better teammate, less selfish, less egocentric, less polemic, and overall better person which makes me happy to see him succeed. And this last World Cup is the pinnacle of his amazing career. I would lastly propose what it could be a nice debate for CR7. Who has been the best "Ronaldo" in history? (The one that has two World cups, the one that has one World cup or the one that never played even a final?)

But the Goat debate never existed cause we were watching the things that we never seen before from Messi which is impossible to believe if the moments were not filmed and Ronaldo was showing what other players can do but with much hard work. As the world was defending Ronaldo by criticizing Messi at his national career especially after Ronaldo won the Euro 2016. So, Messi was calm and made these debates to settle by winning over the South America champions Brazil at Copa America, the Euro champions Italy and finally the World champions France at the world cup in a row. After this there is nothing to say except accepting the real GOAT and respecting Ronaldo because they gave football something special for history.

In simple Summary, Ronaldo does things other great footballers can do, goals, long shots, headers, acrobatics and all. But he does them more consistently than everyone else. Messi does things that makes you ask questions, that makes you wonder, that are unheard of, that has never been seen or done before, that makes you wonder if you'd ever see them again. So now people are trying to make controversy saying Ronaldo is better but in reality.Messi is the GOAT,and Ronaldo is second,then everyone else.And Ronaldo fans like to say "oh well but he has great mentality" like are you guys that delusional? He HAD great mentality know he likes breaking kids phones,leaving the stadium early when his team is losing and disrespecting an entire club. No player is more important than an entire club,no matter how great the player is. Club comes first,then coach,then the players.And keep in mind i said PLAYERS,not Ronaldo specifically. Because all players are equal,no player should be allowed something the others arent allowed to do. For example: Not coming to training. And a lot of people are attacking Erik Ten Hag when in reality Manchester United has been better since Ten Hag,and thats a fact. You wanna know why? Because he treats all players equally. And someone selfish like Ronaldo is angry that he doesnt get privilege now.. So basically,Ten Hag proved the point "Manager is always more important thsn player,no matter how great a player may be,the coach comes first." Let me end this on a quote "Ronaldo needs other players to provide for him and get him chances to score,but Messi can dictate an entire game for his club",and that's the main difference. Most unbiased and fair: Messi has the best goalscoring ratio of all-time. Most assists as well. Ronaldo has the most goals atm but needed more games than Messi to reach that amount. But even when you remove the goals out of the equation, you'll see Messi dominate every stat. He has more successful dribbles, passes, assists. When you apply the eye test Messi is also the better player. He can score, but also build up towards a goal. He can dictate the game but also finish it. Ronaldo is a great player, one of the best ever. He has lots of flair, amazing skill moves in his prime, a big personality and scored so much. Also assisted a lot (but not as much as Messi and not of the quality of Messi's assists). When you look at awards and titles, Messi also wins. He has a world cup, most trophies in history of the game. Messi has 7 balon d'Ors, the most ever. He scored 91 goals in a year. Nobody has ever reached that number and he didn't do that as a classical striker. He also assisted a lot. Only competition Ronaldo has won more than Messi is the CL, but he only has 1 more CL to his name. You can also say as an argument against that, that Messi beat Ronaldo a bunch in the CL as well. Messi's Barca beat Real in the CL and United in a final. With Messi being very important and incredible in both those matches. Messi has also humiliated Ronaldo's Real quite a bunch. In their head to head confrontations Messi won the most and displayed the better football. And at the end of the day you shouldn't even compare trophies or the Balon d'Or. Because you need teammates to secure that. Just use your eyes. Messi outdribbless entire defences by himself. Prime Messi had to be guarded by the entire team. While prime Ronaldo was being covered by 2/3 players. I've seen Dani Alves hold his own against Ronaldo in 1 on 1s in El Classico. At the moment Messi just had 1 player in front of him it was game over. Messi dribbles better, passes better, gives more complex passes, has better vision, is deceptively strong, the strongest defenders failed to push him off the ball. Seen Casemiro struggle to use his body against him. Even at 35 Gvardiol was unable to push him off the ball, Messi is agile, fast on the ball, always makes the right decisions, in his prime he'd also press like no other, re-cover the ball, help out in defence, he was a powerhouse. Its so painfully clear to me how much better Messi is. It was already clear to me in 2009 after following him for 4 years since 2005. Back in 2009 me and my friends would say he merely has to prove himself for a year or 2-4 more and his legacy would be cemented. Look at us now. He went above and beyond.

You forgot to highlight that, while Messi was the best player in the world cup, Ronaldo had a disappointed tournament. And Messi still playing at the highest level. He has the chance to win a Champions League title and another balon d'or. Ronaldo, well... Ronaldo has been great, don't take me wrong. But the debate between who's better between them is over.
