YEESS years agon on a first date, i invited her over…she saw my PS2…sighed and said “oh no….you have one of those”? I explained it away as my only means of playing DVD movies which was true but still….we should just be who we are..don’t pretend otherwise.

It's never awkward for me, I explain my hobbies and that's it, I mean after explaining the sort of women I think were explaining or as mended a list I think we'd probably find shoe collecting an annoying hobby. cuz there's lots of women that would love nothing more than to display hundreds of shoes, the only women.

I had an ex who told me to be "less of a nerd" so I ended up selling a lot of comics, figures and manga I had collected up until that point. We split a few months later but I was convinced her advice was what I needed to move forward with future relationships. However, shortly after I got back in touch with an old school friend who's also a massive nerd, met some of his friends and realised I was far more comfortable being myself and enjoying what I enjoy than trying to be what other people "think" I should be.

I’ve known my partner 10 years and we’ve been together 3. She knew about my hobby and was always a bit wary of it. But our second date she came to stay for the weekend and saw how happy it makes me, she’s a gamer nerd so she knows the look. Her thinking is I’m loyal, I put her needs and our home before toys, I can (and will) sell everything if I need to and it’s not drink or drugs. So she feels more secure than any relationship she’s previously had. As long as you find a girl who gets it, this is a great hobby.

Love getting both perspectives on this. My bride knew I was a collector when we met, but had no idea how big my collection was until later. That being said, when we married she made sure that I had a space for my collection in our home together. Then when we moved, she specifically wanted a place that had enough room for my Toy Tomb. So blessed to share life with someone who may not fully understand why I collect, but knows that it brings me joy & keeps me at home with my family.❤

My wife doesnt mind my collection at all but she has certain rules which i completely understand. One of them is to make sure i have room. If i run out of room i have to sell or get rid of figures and other items to make room especially since we need space due to her being pregnant with our kids (twins). The other rule is to spend only when everything else is taken care of. All baby clothes, bills, food, baby products and other expenses are top priority, and after that i can spend for my collection. So she absolutely does not mind it at all as long as im responsible and our family is always the priority

The most important part of the article is the Limitations section at the end. "However, our samples skew disproportionately toward women of high social status, high level of education (45% had a Master’s degree in the previous survey), and who are predominately White (> 90% in the last survey)." Seeing how they explicitly cross-reference the results of previous surveys, I can only conclude that the sample is based on regular visitors to the site. 45% of the responders having a master's degree suggests that the target audience is, on average, rather mature. Basically, the article reflects the preferences of middle-aged women who frequent dating psychology websites (so are most likely single).

Part of the problem with the studies like this though is the sample pool. WHAT women were responding right? So you wind up with a very narrow pool of people in general for most of these kinda things. I mean I am still single but there are reasons behind that (heavy life burdens placed upon me that ate up my time). But yeah, most polls are borderline useless as a data analysis tool. It would be different if the place went in to say 100 unique locations, got a large data set, and then presented findings after requiring every person in there to participate. Instead you just get a lot of like minded people that want voice their opinion and they tend to be the unhappy people. So the list doesn't surprise me in any way.

It's extremely rare that you will find a woman that collects action figures...I've seen one looking for the Walgreens Exclusive Fantastic 4 Thing, but truthfully most women think it's childish and a waste of time, unless they are deep into nerd culture, but then again those are usually younger girls that are into anime. I'm an aspiring Concept Artist for games and film who wants to pivot into designing for collectibles, and I dated someone who thought it was childish..she was Bipolar anyway so that didn't work out. It is hard to tell someone you want to date that you are a collector, but I've seen the rare few who have an entire family that don't mind...Cincy Nerd is the first that comes to mind.

I don't think having similar hobbies is a good idea. I've been happily married for 23+ yrs and I like playing music, action figures, and comics. My wife enjoys baking, haunted houses and ghost hunting. It should be a thing you like so you can have space to be you. 😁👍

I changed my entire life for my wife, then she left after a decade. Moral of the story, be very, very careful what you'd give up for a spouse.
