It's never awkward for me, I explain my hobbies and that's it, I mean after explaining the sort of women I think were explaining or as mended a list I think we'd probably find shoe collecting an annoying hobby. cuz there's lots of women that would love nothing more than to display hundreds of shoes, the only women.

I had an ex who told me to be "less of a nerd" so I ended up selling a lot of comics, figures and manga I had collected up until that point. We split a few months later but I was convinced her advice was what I needed to move forward with future relationships. However, shortly after I got back in touch with an old school friend who's also a massive nerd, met some of his friends and realised I was far more comfortable being myself and enjoying what I enjoy than trying to be what other people "think" I should be.

I’ve known my partner 10 years and we’ve been together 3. She knew about my hobby and was always a bit wary of it. But our second date she came to stay for the weekend and saw how happy it makes me, she’s a gamer nerd so she knows the look. Her thinking is I’m loyal, I put her needs and our home before toys, I can (and will) sell everything if I need to and it’s not drink or drugs. So she feels more secure than any relationship she’s previously had. As long as you find a girl who gets it, this is a great hobby.

Love getting both perspectives on this. My bride knew I was a collector when we met, but had no idea how big my collection was until later. That being said, when we married she made sure that I had a space for my collection in our home together. Then when we moved, she specifically wanted a place that had enough room for my Toy Tomb. So blessed to share life with someone who may not fully understand why I collect, but knows that it brings me joy & keeps me at home with my family.❤

I support my husband’s hobbies! I’m Japanese and my husband is an American military veteran. My husband collected G i Joes when he was young his father was USAF and they connected over collecting and great bonding was made between father and son. Today our son connects with his father and its quite lovely to me my husband studies military history and includes our son. My husband practiced Kendo and Iaido as a boy being part Japanese as well. A woman shouldn’t stand in the way of her husband’s hobbies and interests. One hobby my husband taught me and we enjoy it together is firearms and i added cosplay into it!😊 4:35 MAYBE IN THE WEST BUT I LOVE COSPLAY AND BEEN DOING COSPLAY SINCE I WAS LITTLE! I've been married for 20 years, and together with my wife for 23, and Anna's thoughts about you collecting instead of going to a strip club was always my major barometer when dating. My wife and I both love video games and anime, but she's also super into reading fiction/fantasy novels, while I am a comic nut and figure collector (obviously, as I watch this channel). My wife doesnt mind my collection at all but she has certain rules which i completely understand. One of them is to make sure i have room. If i run out of room i have to sell or get rid of figures and other items to make room especially since we need space due to her being pregnant with our kids (twins). The other rule is to spend only when everything else is taken care of. All baby clothes, bills, food, baby products and other expenses are top priority, and after that i can spend for my collection. So she absolutely does not mind it at all as long as im responsible and our family is always the priority

The most important part of the article is the Limitations section at the end. "However, our samples skew disproportionately toward women of high social status, high level of education (45% had a Master’s degree in the previous survey), and who are predominately White (> 90% in the last survey)." Seeing how they explicitly cross-reference the results of previous surveys, I can only conclude that the sample is based on regular visitors to the site. 45% of the responders having a master's degree suggests that the target audience is, on average, rather mature. Basically, the article reflects the preferences of middle-aged women who frequent dating psychology websites (so are most likely single).

Happily coupled for 9 years, married for 2. What makes our relationship work is that we both have different things that we’re deeply passionate about. Sometimes we don’t 100% synch up on things, but we understand and respect (and love) the emotions that go into each other’s hobbies. There’s also definitely some bleed over. She won't admit it, but she is a bit geeky herself. She has "claimed" parts of the collect as her own. She knows the difference between Marvel and DC. She has her own Funko Pop collection. Fun video! Makes me wonder what the data says about what hobbies men generally find unattractive in women. For me, watching tons of reality TV would be up there. 😁

Part of the problem with the studies like this though is the sample pool. WHAT women were responding right? So you wind up with a very narrow pool of people in general for most of these kinda things. I mean I am still single but there are reasons behind that (heavy life burdens placed upon me that ate up my time). But yeah, most polls are borderline useless as a data analysis tool. It would be different if the place went in to say 100 unique locations, got a large data set, and then presented findings after requiring every person in there to participate. Instead you just get a lot of like minded people that want voice their opinion and they tend to be the unhappy people. So the list doesn't surprise me in any way.

Well, my late wife married me when I owned a Mom and Pop Comic Book Store. And she collected Barbies, and didn't mind that I collected Action Figures after my son aged out of them.

People, don't hide *you* . Energy attracts energy. If she finds you a turn off cause of what you love, move on to someone who embraces it. That simple.

I actually find it a bit surprising that toy collecting is still considered an unattractive hobby given the popularity of comic book movies and given how many women have gotten into cosplay.

It's extremely rare that you will find a woman that collects action figures...I've seen one looking for the Walgreens Exclusive Fantastic 4 Thing, but truthfully most women think it's childish and a waste of time, unless they are deep into nerd culture, but then again those are usually younger girls that are into anime. I'm an aspiring Concept Artist for games and film who wants to pivot into designing for collectibles, and I dated someone who thought it was childish..she was Bipolar anyway so that didn't work out. It is hard to tell someone you want to date that you are a collector, but I've seen the rare few who have an entire family that don't mind...Cincy Nerd is the first that comes to mind.

Its all about your personality and looks... if you meet someone and they are into you then just get to know them. Your hobbies aren't your life, so its not something you need to bring up immediately. After a few dates and they get to know you then bring it up. After someone has started to like you they probably wont ghost you because they dont like your hobby

I stopped collecting once I got to college during Y2K where I met my wife. I’ve only recently started again during the pandemic. So basically I’m motivated by world impacting events.

Great video. I believe toy collecting does limit a man's options in women, but we chose this path, so we'll have to deal with it in a positive way.

I was so worried my dates would hate my toys I sold all of them. Now I'm married to someone who also collects and we have a whole basement full! Could not be happier! Definitely find someone who "gets" you!

I don't think having similar hobbies is a good idea. I've been happily married for 23+ yrs and I like playing music, action figures, and comics. My wife enjoys baking, haunted houses and ghost hunting. It should be a thing you like so you can have space to be you. 😁👍

I changed my entire life for my wife, then she left after a decade. Moral of the story, be very, very careful what you'd give up for a spouse.
