Yeah aim assist is the same as aiming in the general direction and getting a kill, stfu. You seem like the type of guy who’d brag his 3000$ pc runs games better than a 300$ console. I’m sure that extra digit was worth 50 more frames. Aim assist isn’t as prominent in multiplayer titles too. I bet you advocate that console aim is easier too 😂

Overall I feel like the wii was ultimately poorly equipped to bring IR aiming into certain fields. For example, I'd like to point to Metroid Prime 3 actually. Being able to aim with the controller was great. Fabulous. I loved it. But I had to point at the edge of the screen any time I wanted to turn, and that was a major hindrance to play. MP3 could have benefitted greatly from dual analog control, left stick for feet, right stick for head, and IR for the arm cannon

And I really really really loved the Move. I don’t know how anyone can believe we aren’t fools for trusting Microsoft and Sony to support their own accessories and features. Sony has a great gyro controller as good and as capable of Nintendo’s.... and they never support it for FPS. I saw the new PS5 controller and couldn’t help but laugh... I’m sure that too will have a bunch of new and fantastic features that Sony will never support! Nintendo is the OG of innovation and quality. I wish a deadly alliance between Nintendo and Sega would form to push out the competition from the market.

Yeah, they stick with their gimmicks, look at the Wii U, universally hated and underselling all around (maybe because Nintendo never actually puts good hardware in their systems and it shows?) The Kinect with the Xbone was a sour spot from the get go, instead of having it as an add-on they decided the FORCE people to buy it with a 500 euro/dollar package instead of the competitor the PS4 which retailed at 400 euro/dollars. Also that my Kinect actually died by absolutely nothing, the fan just stopped working and it never turned on again, not my problem since it was a paperweight regardless.

The problem is, motion aiming was the only thing the WII had. A single analog stick (if you plugged it in) a single d-pad that didn't reliably work, one button on the front and two on the back and that's it, the two on the bottom are out of reach. Had they added motion aiming to a controller that otherwise looks like a gamecube controller (still the only of their controllers designed for usability), I guess people wouldn't have hated it as much.

This is actually what my thoughts were playing splatoon. I turned off motion controls at first but after a few months i noticed every pro player using them and decided to turn them on. I suffered losing a lot at first thinking its weird and uncomfortable but after learning it i could never go back. Because i realized its very close to using a mouse. You can choose to swing around in a 360 or make tiny micro adjustments and looking at my very old gameplay footage i can see i wrestled a lot with the stick snapping around barely hitting targets when now i can consistently snipe with gyro controls

They were specifically talking about RE 4. This video isn't about RE 4, so he wasn't really going to go into it, but the reason it's considered "Cheating" is for the same reason it has several other "outdated" systems. The "limited" (but fully functional) control scheme makes it scarier, depowering you to make the enemies more of a threat. Up to the individual on how important that is, but RE 4 was still supposed to be a horror game like its predecessors.

I remember when Splatoon came out, I was seeing an avalanche of tweets saying things like "Do yourself a favor and immediately turn off the motion control, here's how". And all I could think about is how much of an immediate disadvantage these people were putting themselves at based on their own stubbornness. Speaking of which, with Fortnite having crossplay, the Nintendo Switch users have a mad advantage over the Xbox and PS4 users entirely because of the gyro aim assist. I really wish it was something people would be more open to. After playing Breath of the Wild with the Pro Controller's gyro, it was like opening a third eye.

Funny; my first time with gyro aim was on the Wii U with Wind Waker HD. I started out just using it to make small adjustments and corrections almost without even thinking about it, and I ended up using it almost completely in place of the stick. By the time I got Breath of the Wild on the Wii U, I was completely used to gyro aim. Sadly, I was also used to the touchscreen inventory that Wind Waker HD had, and I spent Breath of the Wild thinking that navigating the huge inventory would've been more intuitive with the touchscreen. Imagine how I felt when I remembered that, originally, the game was going to have a touchscreen menu, and it was gutted from the Wii U version when they made the Switch version.

Too bad that official Joy-Cons need to be replaced regularly due to motion controls, forcing me to buy third party Joy-Cons which lack motion controls. I'm a gun enthusiast, while aiming is easier, there should never be a point in time where you're aiming without using the sights, and you have to lean into a shot with a pistol to prevent the muzzle from flipping in a weird way that might throw off your aim. You also don't want to take too long to shoot or else your aim might drift. TL;DR: Yes, aiming is easier, but there is a lot that can throw it off, and there are skills that make it easier that will take time to learn.

When I figured out it was gyro aim, I turned it off and went back to playing the way I had: stealthing around and taking goddamn near a full minute to line up each headshot. On a whim I tried turning it on now that I knew what was going on, and instantly my aim improved tenfold. I actually like the lock on feature and think the game works better when the focus is on pure DPS and weakness exploitation rather than aiming. Also the really cool tricks are VERY difficult to perform on Wii where it's difficult to turn around and it feels weird using lock on because it either gets in the way of motion aiming or if you turn off motion while locking on it feels weird when you snap off/kill an enemy and the motion jerks out to where your hand is resting. The snappiness of play on Gamecube makes it easier to control turning and perform general speedrunning tricks. Just my opinion, though.

The unfortunate side effect of people refusing to try anything other than analog controls on consoles are the increased aim assist. Mario Kart Wii Wheelies are the reason why people prefer Mario Kart Wii over Mario Kart 8. Pikmin 1 on the Wii ist better than Pikmin 1 on the GC because of the controls. On the other hand Mario Tennis Wii was worse than the one on the Gamecube... You have to judge the games individually and find the way you want to play the games. Thank god Tropical Freeze did away with it. As for Mario Galaxy, I actually didn't mind it much in that game. Sure, it was unnecessary, but it felt fluid enough that I didn't mind. I think in general though, game developers need to realize that there are times where motion controls make sense and there are times that they just don't. @Nerrel That's fine, but in that thread's own comments you can see people blatantly bashing motion controls, not gyro controls. My point is that the inaccuracies of waggling and the forceful nature that they were implemented in left a bad taste in many gamer's mouths (remember PS3's Lair? The Kinect?) so when they hear the words "motion controls" a lot of them just assume the worst. Obviously they should have considered gyro as a separate entity when voting there but alas. Anyway, this why I believe that this should have taken a more central stage in your video over a narrative that people are afraid of a "casual stigma".

This video describes everything I’ve been saying to people for years. I’ve been using the Steam Controller for about 2 years now and the only game I’ve been unable to comfortably play on PC with it something like LoL. The trackpads, gyroscope, dual stage triggers, grips, etc, are the future of game controllers and yet nobody cares. Gamers have had the dualshock since 1997 and it’s very hard to remove over 2 decades worth of muscle memory. Gyro gives you fine tune aiming while a trackpad can give you extreme camera flips along with relatively fine aiming as well. Paddles allow you to bind important functions like jump and reload to the back of the controller, allowing you till still aim while using those actions. Dual stage triggers allow you to bind related inputs in a way that feels intuitive: think of something like F zero, you could bind accelerate to pulling the trigger, then boost to the digital click at the end of the same trigger. Or you could bind crouch to full pull and ADS to soft pull, allowing you to easily crouch while in ADS or give you the ability to easily slide and ADS with one pull of the trigger. So many different functions that they could be used for but nobody cares. The only innovation we see on controllers outside the SC are things like the elite controller or scuff controllers but those go for a premium price so the average gamer wouldn’t care.

Between all your videos advocating to at least give gyro a chance and that motion controls CAN be done correctly and implemented correctly; you have changed my outlook on motion and now I am checking for it in games where it's an option. Not all games implement it well but I'm glad it's becoming more of a standard included feature. It's really up to the devs to make the experience to use the motion controls as simple (or complex) as possible to be useful. I think Splatoon and Splatoon 2 really nailed it and are some seminal games that sparked the conversation around motion controls actually being a superior way to play the game. Personally I still stick with standard controls and high sensitivity when I play Splatoon but I can see how people like it. I think motion/gyro implementation is great in place of or to compliment something like aim assist. Those fine adjustments to your shots can be great in games like Zelda Breath of the Wild where you just need to move it at the exact right moment for the smallest adjustment to get the perfect shot. I prefer games that tend to use gyro/motion as an *optional compliment to create a complete control setup versus games that are mandate motion (or touch) controls. I've played quite a few games where motion was an optional feature but just did not seem optimized for gameplay at all. It's really touch and go in my experience. Anyways thanks for changing my perspective on motion and gyro. Also love the channel I'm a new viewer and always checking for new videos or rewatching old ones; the edits are great.

whenever I stop playing Splatoon 2 or some other Nintendo game with gyro aiming, and try some other game on the xbox or whatever, it's REALLY WEIRD. Like, it just feels clunky and painful to try to aim at even a still target, because I am trying to aim at the enemy, not in the general direction of the enemy, because I'm used to games which don't let your aim snap to your target like that. Of course, trying to actually do it manually would be a nightmare, because of how counterintuitive it is as an aiming mechanism, but it is a little funny to me that I'm having trouble on the more "hardcore GaMeR" consoles because they're trying to keep what is essentially an "easy mode" on all the time, and never bring more conventional skill into the equation.

No but motion controls being used in games that play either as well or better with traditional controls isn't a reason to why motion controls are bad in general. As time goes on developers start to understand which games benefit from motion controls. While both BotW & SMO are pretty recent when compared to games like SMG1&2 (I wish that they made 3) you can definitely see that motion controls aren't used for every single action and I'm sure that in a few years motion controls will be a distant memory in these genres.

Motion control aiming isn't even something the Wii innovated. There were many light gun games, like House of the Dead, Resident Evil Survivor, not to mention Duck Hunt way before the Wii. Sure, they are somewhat of a niche genre, but people can get behind the idea of pointing a fake gun at something instead of a stick. The problem with motion controls on the Wii is that the early Wiimotes were pretty imprecise, and most games were not designed around motion controls, having poor implementations of them. Also, many people (including me) don't want to bother moving around when playing videogames. It's not as comfortable as holding a controller, and it feels goofy and unnecessary of most games. For these reasons, motion controls can break the immersion of playing a game instead of enhancing it. I'm curious to experience VR or even AR gaming in the future though. When the technology advances to fix some of its current problems, it could be pretty incredible.

So you must play splatoon to realise what the video means. Everyone whos use gyro controls play with them sit down and almost still, with little movements of the wirst, that everyone already do playing normally. It feels like a third analog built into your hands, and with the same precision that you have playing guitar (love to play it too). Once you start to play this way, is hard to get back to 2 thumb sticks mode.

@@Canalbiruta The good thing about Splatoon is that you can play with the sticks without being at a massive disadvantage. Most of my time with that game was spent with the sticks as opposes to gyro. The only issue I ever had with dual sticks was using the long range weapons, which I was able to use better with gyro controls.

Calvin_Coolage a lot of splatoon technics are hard as fuck to do in analog stick only. Also, I rarely see splatoon high level play in analog stick, everyone play in gyro because is so much better

I bought Doom for the PS4, because it was a lot cheaper than the Switch Version. I played it a little bit, but had to stop, because it was too hard to aim. I died many times in the first level, but when I bought the Switch Version, it was much easier since this time I could actually hit the enemies.

I don't think it's fair to say that the only reason people don't embrace motion controls the same way they did for other innovations is because it's "not cool", I think it's because the motion control was imprecise, poorly implemented, and didn't provide the same tactical response as a button or a stick or mouse. I also don't think it's fair to say that "everyone" reacted poorly to the Splatoon gyro controls; using infamously poor gaming journalism outlets as your reference for "everyone" is ridiculous. The reason people threw up their arms at all new advancements, motion controls included, is because they were new, I get that. The reason motion controls, at least in the age of the Wii, never caught on was because it didn't work well enough. The basis of everything you say here is that motion controls make aiming more precise and easier, and I have to say, i almost always found the opposite true. Something like a touch screen has tactical feedback, you can feel yourself touching the screen, which is why the aiming in Kid Icarus Uprising (during the flying levels) feel miles more precise than the awkward twitchy waggling of Sin and Punishment.

Speaking of tactical feedback, I find buttons are even better to use than screens, because you know where on the controller your fingers and thumbs are more likely to be than if you play a mobile port of a game, because your thumbs can slip off of where the D-Pad/Buttons are on the screen.

I agree with pretty much everything you said, just wanted to say it's "tactile" feedback, that's anything that responds to an input with a stimulus of touch (button, rumble, joystick hitting the edge of motion, etc.)

I think the benefits you describe really only apply to shooters, and the issues people had with motion controls on Nintendo consoles are mostly valid when discussing other genres. I remember well having to waggle and swipe the remote around to perform trivial actions in platformers and the like. For precision aiming it’s clear that thumb sticks are pretty much the worst solution in use, and in fact console development priority has severely damaged the FPS genre, which is why newer shooters are mostly basic, unchallenging and rely on elements other than shooting and movement to stand out (see Overwatch for an example).

The fact that it has been misused is beside the point. The point is that adding motion control/gyro is the future and that it will objectively add depth and immersion to games. We have to understand that to ask for better implementations instead of removing them because some of them sucked on launch.

Metroid Prime 3 and later the Trilogy were the peak of ir aiming. I love using gyro to get precise aims when playing Breath of the Wild. So Nintendo, please make sure Prime 4 isn't stuck to just sticks for aiming; make me feel like that arm cannon belongs to me.

Playing the original Quake on the Wii's Homebrew Channel with motion controls is one of the best gaming-related memories that I have. My introduction to Resident Evil 4 was on the Wii, so when I re-bought it on sale a few years later on PS4, I absolutely hated it. Red Steel wasn't even that bad and it was a launch title. Medal of Honor Heroes 2 was a blast to play online! People just loved to hate on motion controls, just like they loved to hate dual analog when it first came out.

@@Vinnay94 No. CronusMAX is pretty much a USB stick. The only software you need is the one that lets you load in scripts or create them. But overall its simple. It works with every platform, 7th gen and up aside from the Wii itself. And I use it for using Wiimote & Nunchuck on Xbox and PC. If you want I can show you on Discord if you are interested. EDIT: So basically, any game that is 7th gen and up. On PC you may have to use GlovePIE to make the inputs of Xinput that CronusMAX uses to be recognized as keyboard and mouse inputs, but aside from that its any game basically.

Yeah was an absolute joy to play. Too bad Nintendo basically abandoned it. They should've made a first party effort to cater more to the FPS crowd, a la Hunters on DS, but on console instead. Prime games, as good as they were, are more of a Metroid puzzle/exploration game than your standard FPS affair. They got critical acclaim, but all the kids were out playing COD and Halo. Would've been hampered anyway by severely underpowered hardware and primitive online services. A shame really.
