Thats why hxh is the most unique anime i have ever seen. Even though it's a Shonen, it's fights are just a part of the story and not everything. For eg. Netero vs mereum was the most anticipated fight(actual fight when king was not defensive anymore) and they could have dragged it for 2 more episodes but they didn't coz as I said hxh is not about fights, it's all about the characters having a purpose. My fave anime❤️

13:47 Parker misunderstood what Netero was saying. He wasn't asking himself when he stopped being gracious, he was asking himself when he stopped HESITATING being gracious. He was questioning why he ever stopped being a monster, he was making the assertion that being able to take the hands of the defeated in his own WASN'T the power he wanted, what his true self wanted was to fight someone as monstrous as him to the death. tl;dr Netero was psyching himself up to be as merciless as possible and to enjoy the fight.

I like how every hunter we encounter in the show can give you a piece of the puzzle to answer the question "What is a hunter?" and here especially with Netero the President of the HA we get a big piece of answer... the HA as a whole is one thing and the hunters as individuals are a different thing but also make the organization what it is as a whole... the HA isn't the police or the army of any country, they're not an NGO either but they do very similar work on their own scale... here they got send to eliminate a world-class threat but they're not really doing it bc it's the noble thing to do... ofc protecting humankind is important and many hunters only need that to get involved but every hunter also has that 'greed', that personal goal they want to achieve and eventually it can become more important than mankind even when their actions are the same : Netero will fight the same either way but his desire to reach the ultimate power may be greater than the need to accomplish his rescue mission It reminds me of Gon for ex when he faced Genthru, he was willing to go through with his mission but couldn't repress the egoistical urge to find out about his own strength Both Netero and Gon (and many others) are ready to make crazy sacrifices to get that answer, to reach that power...and it seems like that level of craziness is what makes a few hunters able to go far (or die sooner most likely) than those who have more modest goals Now fsr it reminds me of Berserk and the whole dream talk ...or Erwin in AOT standing on a mountain of corpses... or Canute in VS 😅 I love those themes

This music is so amazing. I love the fact that its just a repetition of the words "Kyrie Eleison" which translates into "Lord, have mercy". It carries so much weight with it and the ebbs and flow goes so well with the fight itself. I also love how Netero after this point of no return allows himself to enjoy the fight for what it is. Its no longer "just" a mission to save the world, its a battle where he can tests his limits once more. The line "no longer hesitated to accept my opponents hands in defeat" I interpret along the lines of what Lindsey (sp?) says, the fact of his superiority was so undeniable that the opponents defeat was not something that ever was in question. It had become something that just is, and with it Netero's goals faded with time. Great reaction. Have been enjoying it immensly watching this together with you two. This arc just keeps on giving and that makes it so enjoyable to rewatch with "new eyes".

It's interesting the choice for that track. A religious chorus chanting Kyrie Eleison since we know Mad House the studio behind this adaptation, while we also know the same studio adapted Death Note. Full of tracks with gregorian chants and religious motif, including "Kyrie Eleison" ones. Not only that, its very obvious if you pay attention that Pouf character design is based on Light Yagami. And no, I'm aware Pouf exists outside Death Note shadow, as a manga character obviously. But I'm saying Mad House recycled Light Yagami layouts to use for Pouf. The way he smirks, or gestures is so Light Yagami. So what I'm trying to say its interesting the way Mad House recycled things from a successful work from their past and used them here with great taste.

It's been a long time since I started watching your HxH reactions to reach 111 (palace invation), now 125-126 and its been amazing. Your reactions are on point as usual and the analysis is very thoughful which is very lacking in most reactors. 131 is also gonna be fire. You poignant talk about the Tomb (it was funny linking the Tomb with LOTR Moria Dwarrondelf's scene because I also thought the same the first or second time I got to this scene) reminded me of something: it amazes me the level of "thematic control" of Togashi-sensei. why? Because Meruem is derived, as far as I know, from Maryam an ancient egyptian name. I believe from a pharao. The same way Nefer, Menthethu and Shaia are taken from the same ancient culture. Thematically speaking you can see the visual character design of Meruem and get this "middle eastern" Prince look. Like a sultan or something. His jacket, the head is like a hat used by royalty. So the egyptian mythological motifs are there, in the names and visual design. But also the pathos of Meruem and the connection to the Tomb which is his final destination. Ancient Pharaos and Tombs came hand in hand. They always thought about death since birth and they built their last dwellings while they were alive. We all know this because it's ingrained in pop culture thanks to Hollywood. But also the mythos of death and rebirth was an important aspect for ancient Pharaos. And I believe is no coincidence Meruem came to life again stronger than ever and feeling like a god.

Same... it was the end of an era. I don't really like any current anime to be truly honest. JJK is mid for me, but it's the only one i'm currently watching, barely. There's still some gems like Ousama Ranking or very experimental and risky works like Heike Monogatary from 2021, but 99.99% is pure isekai, autistic romcoms "slice of life" tokyo-focused fantasies, teenager male driven fantasies like harems and being reborn agains with superpowers, and shit like that. Hate the state of the anime industry and the new blood of mangaka, or the ones that became succesful. Never again we shall see again another One Piece, HxH, Mushishi, Samurai Champloo, Cowboy Bebop (not very eager to watch Pluto coming in October... Watanabe had to adapt to current tastes and they're trashy), etc. It appears every idea is being filtered by an AI algorithm. Maybe I'm just old. Whatever.

Yes and no. Pitou was tired and shocked about everything that transpired since the Palace Invasion. Pitou has been using En non stop to shroud the fucking palace and the vicinities for how many days? Then all the invasion happens like a blitzkrieg, the King became vulnerable and it witnessed that and commended it a mission shat its trying to fulfiill. Pitou's cognitive capabilites are tired at this point. Then the whole thing with Gon threatening Pitou's mission was the straw that broke the camels back. So yeah I agree that Pitou's overstimating. But at the same time it senses some deep danger within this boy. The same way Pouf foreshadows Gon's superior will. And they both know, specially Pitou, that Nen is about personality and will power. So the potential danger is still there laying dormant and Pitou is afraid something is gonna wake up and reach the King. In this sense it is not wrong for Pitou to shudder.

I agree. Netero recovered back to his former self, or at least almost. Being young is being young no matter what people say. But still even is his most prime when he wasn't 120 years old Meruem still claps him in a 1v1
