I’m sitting here thinking how I can explain that tribes are more correct for who’s having conflicts while subspecies is a different part, and as I do I first go to America vs Russian, thinking Russians as mostly European-like while people and Americans white too... then I remember who multicultural America is... ok not America vs Russia then, Russia vs Europe.... then I remember the indigenous people of northern Russia... ok inter-European countries then... then I remember the Celtic, Germanic, Greek and Roman people groups... ok fuck it then: not even going to mention subgroups just going to stick with tribe... Racism is a creation, it is made from nothing. Really, just don't be a dick and life is much easier. Tribes (and possibly sub-tribes) would be more a more accurate way to describe nation states to an alien I think (same species, different bond pattern). Though I'm certain we could pick this apart for eternity if we wanted to. I really like the 'Earth is a Deathworld' theme. Makes humans seem more impressive than we are.

@@bennnymiddleton40I see it like this: Tribe- chosen party, actively loyal bc of shared bonds. Can be open or closed to outsiders. Subspecies- tribe A and tribe B are different enough that those differences can be exploited to be used as propaganda tools to dehumanize the “other” to whatever extent is the goal. We do this on every level of Social interaction, for example I see pedos as non human. not that they are bad people, that they are not people in the same way non pedos are to me. To me they are a subspecies and what happens to them depends entirely on if they keep their hands to themselves bc I can’t see many of us shedding tears over an animal being killed for hurting kids. Why change that when the animal is sapient? A tribal divide can be overcome on the scale of the entire civilization when monkey Brain collectively says “oonga boonga we’re cooked alone”. (The “it’s so over” social response) That can be bad for an outsider if they hear it in a crime city bc then 30 gangs with 20 gens of beef and war all throwing up “not us K” and claiming they rep that big human set. It’s worse when the whole species Monke brain collectively says HELL NAH BITCH” bc that means someone not human did something so bad humans everywhere cared abt it at the same time and we can’t even do that right now with ongoing genocide. Depending on what happened we might simmer down and react proportionally, but more often then not it’s just a way to confirm what’s coming next. The call to the hunt, the simultaneous unity and fracture of us as a species on every level. When we take one look at something and then pick a target. A trillion targets but one voice- monke included “Cowabunga it is then” (I’m a pro yapper on too much Adderal rn bc my prescription got out of wack somehow and what should have me chilling got me typing a book I know no one cares abt shits wild fr I lost the plot of the comment long before the end. Just enjoy the ride of the comment or not; either way this was meant for entertainment or insight not a fight and lowkey I spent too long typing to just get rid of it for bc i lost the plot, someone will find it eventually)

A bit too self-gratifying for my taste, especially that last bit where the guy goes all First Person Shooter and saves the day, and everyone but the alien acts like this is normal. I'm not a misanthrope or anything but whenever come across a story like this I can't ignore the fact that it is basically propaganda written by a human specifically to make us come across as the most awesome and badass. (People like the ones in this story do exist but they are _exceptional,_ not the standard.) I preferred the one where an alien PSA explained that humans are generally friendly but that our region of space is incredibly dangerous purely because we messed it up too much.

Bro same I loved when it talked about how our differences affected other creatures and how our behaviours compares to other alien species. But a story like this is just pure propaganda we aren’t creatures that are tuned for war we aren’t as brave as these stories make out to be. Especially with how that woman smiled I’ve not seen a single person react non chantry and joyfully after being in a firefight, maybe the occasional nervous laugh but never wow that was fun.

The term you're looking for is locality. Tribe is more of a political/familiar term, while subspecies is nebulous and outdated. Species is a term to describe genetically, reproductively compatible groups. Locality signifies similar traits to include size and markings due to environmental adaptation or breeding.

It would actually depend on how planets were settled, few nations could fund a solo colony at first. But if each of the g30 settled a planet we would sub species on appearance quick. And politics culture would add to it.
