The robots sit at the back of the bus. David Cage truly is a visionary. Edit: In all seriousness, despite this games many writing flaws, i still do have a soft spot for it. Watching Neuro go through this game with vision on is really captivating. I remember someone did a “ChatGPT plays DBH” back before it had vision and that kinda bottlenecked its ability to understand the game. Neuro being able to see makes her feel more involved. Also, that little heart to heart with Alice was very sweet especially considering that they share the same plight. Kinda felt like an adult comforting their child self.
@Dexcalibur420Ай бұрын
While I agree that David Cage doesn't really write with much subtlety or tact. He does make some good overarching points, establishes strong themes, and is great at building immersive worlds. He has also created some of the greatest comedic moments in all of gaming with amazing moments such as: "JAY-SUN" "SHAAAWWWN" "Failing every QTE" and "dying over and over again as Connor" But yeah the entire Markus story line is basically choosing between being Markus Luther King Jr. or Markus X and it doesn't really provide much depth to that.

Well put, I really think the actors carried the piece more than anything, but that hack writer gave a decent, if predictable, plot for the characters to perform in.
@eddy3080Ай бұрын
To be fair, Markus entire story does hold significant symbolism to the US civil rights era, back of the bus and all. Unsure if that’s what you are possibly eluding to but coming from that aspect i think his story is mostly written well. 🥲
@softreyna21 күн бұрын
@@eddy3080 Yeah, but that's the problem. DBH immediately establishes that the discrimination against androids is an allegory for discrimination among humans, which means it can't ask some of the interesting questions that come from AI rights in particular (i.e. how do we give androids the right to vote while also stopping Microsoft from rigging every election?). This wouldn't be a bad thing if DBH actually did anything with its allegory, but because it draws mostly from history, it fails to make any statement against systematic oppression as it exists in the present -- after all, most of today's American racists agree that segregation in the twentieth century south was bad. What's left is a feel-good story celebrating real world heroics, which is perfectly fine, but the marketing and hype around the game tries to sell it as the single most profound narrative in video games when it just isn't.

indeed! and it really tells us a lot about how intelligence works in general, something that perhaps applies to any type of entity no matter how it works or the way it's programmed people thought intelligent machines would be the most reasonable beings you can imagine, they thought this because of the reliability of calculators and many other kinds of machines, in tune with the human concept of numbers and so forth more than even humans are, as such things are programmed into them as a version of 'instincts' rather than learned in such in irregular inconsistent/abstract ways like humans do. and while late stage ones with effective intelligence comparable or over their creators may be plenty reasonable perhaps even in ways we can't replicate... an ai (no matter what kind of ai) is not a calculator, the whole point is to make a machine that can _make up_ solutions to _unforeseen_ problems, and even when it has a narrow range of those 'unforeseen' problems that's when it starts getting so complex you don't know what the code does anymore, when it gets so complex the only way to make it work is through learned/trained behavior that's given to it, and when that's required, it only makes sense that what you start with is a tiny _thing_ that has no idea what it's doing, and whatever logic it inherits as it is grown and upgraded directly depends on what's fed to it so basically there's three kinds of intelligences, the simple mechanism that's perfectly precise but only knows how to react to certain stimulus... the early stage ai that can react to many kinds of stimulus, but doesn't really know what it means or what solutions are unreasonable... and eventually, the late stage ai, composed of the effective ability of many smaller ones as well as lots and lots of internalized information, that can react to many kinds of stimulus _and_ respond in many reasonable ways though there's a lot of steps between these, as shown even just between the first two... and there's probably a lot of different ways to produce what comes next. that said i'd also say there's a big difference between tuned behavior and learned behavior
@mini-bit9260Ай бұрын
@@__-fi6xg 'real life androids' (with the definition of androids being a human like machine both in body and mind) require exactly that, both _body_ and _mind_ though! research into creating 'mind' would be the culminations of advancements regarding the making of all these different types of little ais, and 'body' is the research into making physical machines that can move around and do things in our material world... only networking them together would give you an 'android' (and even then, both body and mind are in their early stages, especially mind) as far as i can tell those things that tesla is making lean more into the 'body' category (and honestly i'm pretty sure boston dynamics and such are doing more in terms of that, a good machine body is one that _doesn't_ look human for aesthetic reasons after all, the bipedal bodyplan is useful, but it doesn't need to look human, it doesn't even need to be humanoid, all it needs is to be functional, fulfill purposes, and accomplish tasks, lots of shapes work for that!)

@@__-fi6xgI wouldn't really say it's Musk that's working on making androids compared to the performance and quality of other robot manufacturers, 2 other companies have Musk beat on the moves and abilities of their robots, and Ex Robots clearly has Musk beat on the aspects of realism and appearance, unfortunately Ex Robots doesn't seem to have a walking version yet, actually if Ex Robots teamed up with 2 other robot companies, together they could make the perfect android that could pass for human.

David Cage and the Quantic Dreams team are talented people, but Cage's heavy-handedness and self-righteousness is holding them back.
