Jake (Sean Faris) prepares for the Beat Down Tournament with intense workouts at Roqua's (Djimon Hounsou) gym.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
An outsider teen acclimating to a new school finds a home in a reclusive teenaged fight club in this drama from Cry_Wolf director Jeff Wadlow. Jake Tyler (Sean Faris) has just moved with his family to Orlando, FL. While Jake isn't exactly comfortable being the new kid in town, his younger brother, Charlie (Wyatt Smith), is an aspiring professional tennis star who might just have what it takes to break big. But Charlie isn't the only talented athlete in the family, because Jake used to be something of a hotshot on the gridiron -- at least back home. Here in Orlando, Jake is considered something of a hothead thanks to his penchant for brawling. In an attempt to better fit in with his new classmates, Jake accepts flirtatious classmate Baja's (Amber Heard) invitation to a raucous party. There, the short-fused newcomer is lured into a fight and badly beaten by local bully Ryan McCarthy (Cam Gigandet). But a beam of hope shines through the humiliation when a classmate who sees potential in the defeated fighter informs Jake of a local MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) program run by Jean Roqua (Djimon Hounsou). Despite Jake's preconceived notions regarding MMA, he quickly discovers that it's not just another form of street fighting but a rich new art form that he longs to master. As Roqua takes Jake under his tutelage, it soon becomes apparent that in order to become a true MMA champion, Jake will have to learn patience, discipline, willingness, and reason. This isn't just a quest for revenge, but an opportunity for Jake to finally find out what kind of man he truly is.

As cheesy as this movie is, it inspired me to go and train in MMA. Wasn’t old enough yet at the time though, as I was only 10 and my mom kept saying no. But when our middle school announced that they were going to have a boxing club, I knew I wanted in. I was 11 but about to turn 12 at that point. Fell in love with it, and then my mom seen how much I loved it, and allowed me to do full MMA training by age 15. 23 now, and just spending my days training, before I start my full fight career. Reason why I didn’t start getting fights a lot sooner, was because I wanted to make sure I was 100% ready. I was physically ready, but mentally I wasn’t. Hopefully by the time I turn 24, the virus is under control and I can finally start fighting. If anyone is thinking about getting into MMA, do it. It’s a lot of fun! 👊🏽👊🏽

@@maxanderson3733 thanks bro. Yeah I was suppose to fight September 25 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. But due to the huge spikes in positive cases of Covid in western Canada, it has been postponed to a later date. The athletic commission is concerned and the promotion I was suppose to fight under doesn’t have the money to pay for two nights of Covid testing. The event was going to be 2 nights of fights. I was suppose to fight on night 2. Thankfully it’s only postponed and not completely canceled though. They’re planning for late November to early December. So I hope things work out.

The things which made NVD 1 more enjoyable than the sequel IMO is that in the original, the protagonist is just a normal dude like us who has to go through life problems that can be very relatable to most real life hardships most of us face. He's not some jacked up, special fighter who needs more training, he has to work his way up from the start to beat his bully and get his girlfriend from his clutches which in my opinion, is actually a very good love story too. And there are good moral lessons here and there which makes the movie even more enjoyable.

He recorded jake fighting even though he KNOWS they arent allowed to fight outside the gym. He tried claiming to be jakes coach to try to gain social points amd get females. Also he tried hanging with ryan and his crew being a literal punching bag just so he can be part of the cool crowd. He wanted to be jakes friend to tag along for the ride and look good if jake became popular ( which he did become after awhile) Jake had good character development but Max was just a leech
