Florida is a paradise as it nestles between the Atlantic ocean and Caribbean sea. enjoying warm tropical climate all year round. However, it is mostly flat land with it's highest point being Britton Hill with a summit elevation of 345 feet (105 meters) above sea level. Surges from hurricanes can therefore sweep a long way inland in parts. As sea temperatures increase globally there are two effects. The sea water expands and ice melts at the poles and this raises sea levels globally. But there are also local effects where sea levels can rise further based on currents and the slope of the continents shelf. Shallow areas with a gentle slope will see higher sea level rises, particularly with tides and hurricane surges. Florida could lose a large part of its land mass to sea level rises in the future. As the sea temperature rises it also adds fuel to hurricanes which form faster, are more frequent and are more severe. Storm surges become larger. More frequent and stronger hurricanes could see Florida uninhabitable in future years. Building near the coast would be pointless.
