A ford tech that specializes in transmissions told me that for the dual clutch problem he only seen it on cars that were driven easy such as older people or even the average joe. The ones that teenagers drove that were of course driven much harder had fewer problems out of them. Don’t know any truth to it but I trust his opinion. He also said you have to drive it as you would a manual so when people would speed up and slowing down in parking lots the transmission would go from 1st to 2nd and back a lot and that would mess with them.

Mine was my first car, it’s an 07 se hatchback. I swear it looks dang near new inside and out, she’s been my commuter since I was 17 (its only been 2+ years). She’s had no issues at all, although I replaced the transmission almost as soon as I got it with one that had 40k miles on it. She treats me well! I’ll be sad when I move on to something nicer here in a few months.

I've got an '05 Focus with 230k miles on it and it's still going. The only engine related issue I've had with it since I've owned it is the alternator died on me a few months back. If you can get past the constant vibration from the fault motor mounts, it's a great car.

My 2013 at 195k miles overheated the transmission . Had it since 64k for $5600, only had to change the thermostat. I think it did good and I’m just gonna junk it for the $500, I’m happy with the work it did

I’ve driven my 2002 Ford focus since 2005. It is now 2024 and it’s still runs good with 230k. Scotty describe my car totally vibrates in pieces are falling off of it, but still drives me where I need to go I wouldn’t trust it going long distances on the highway, I need to look into Ford buying back the car though lol.

Wifey had an '02 Focus. It drove like a go cart. Plus, it had a cubby in the dash for loose change which she really loved 'cause her mom would slip money in it every so often.

I own a 2000 Ford Focus (manual) that I bought five years ago for $2000. Yeah, some of the plastic interior parts are worn and falling off, but it runs great, is fun to drive, and gets great mileage. It's easily the best value I've ever gotten when it comes to cars, and I couldn't be happier I bought it.

He's right about the early model Focus, with one caviat. If you are looking to buy a first gen, make sure to AVOID the split-port engine. The valvetrain is screwy and will self destruct early on in the cars lifespan. It will say 'split-port' on top of the valve cover, very easy to spot. These engines are terrible.

We had a 2003 Focus with the split port single overhead cam engine. Bought it at 100,000 miles. Only made it 3 years to 130,000 miles and dropped a valve seat. So we swapped in a used engine that lasted a year and also dropped a valve seat. If you want it to last get a rebuilt cylinder head by somebody that knows about the issue. Or better yet get the Ztec one with dual overhead cams

My first ford was a 2003 ZTS 2.3L 4 cylinder automatic. Loved it and got rid of it at 280K with no issues. I was motivated to buy another Ford product so I bought a brand new 2018 F-150 XLT 5.0 L and regreted buying a Ford product. So many issues with it and with 50K miles and 5K dlls later, I traded in for a brand new 2024 Toyota Camry.

Just bought my 07 ford focus with only 65k miles and only one previous owner! Other than minor vibrations on the steering wheel when idling it runs great! Ac was bad at first but easilly fixed it by replacing blower motor resistor.

My mother bought a new Focus back in 2001. She never changed the oil in the 9.years she owned it and we found out later that the water drained out, and had been inadvertently air cooled, and still running.

I’ve got a 2013. I had a lot less issues once they charged the tcm. I’m currently a little over 182,000 miles on it. When I got my last oil change (I was bad and didn’t get it changed until 8,000) they told me the oil was dirty but it wasn’t low. I’ve been running 5w20 high mileage since about 70,000 on it and it seems happy with it. Maybe when one of the wheels falls off it will be time to retire the car. But I currently get about 36mpg. Hard to argue with

I have a 2013 Ford Focus Hatchback. I installed the lower transmission mount from the Electric Focus. It's solid rubber. Makes a huge difference for under a $100. Stay away from aftermarket mounts, including the engine mount and the transmission mount located under the battery box. Also, you need to take all the paint off where the battery is grounded to the chassis. This helps to make sure everything is grounded correctly, include the transmission.
