This is very true especially in an Indian perspective. Relationships change a lot. If your salary is lower than they expect, they will see you as unmotivated and lesser. If the salary is high, they expect you to pay for stuff. They think they are entitled to your money. They think you're stingy if you don't give them extravagant gifts. It's much better to just not tell them. I only tell my parents and my very close friends who I know truly want the best for me.

Don't EVEN tell something-something! Don't give away any figure range as well just give neutral answer like "Bhagvaan ki krapa se sahi hai", "theek thaak hai" "kaam chl raha hai bas" This is from my personal experience and I didn't even give away actual amy
