The biggest problem is the portion-sizes: you need to have the meat be "about the weight of a fly".
@BaeronBubba4 ай бұрын
Part of the rot problem could be the sheer mass of the chunks fed to the plant. If a trap can only make enough enzyme to digest a fly, then my GUESS is that anything more than that is guaranteed to rot because it can't digest fast enough.
@donivanstryker13408 ай бұрын
The main problem are the preservatives that are added to human food. The chemical reaction ends up killing the trap. Just like feeding your blood to the cross tooth. What happened there is that you blood is iron rich and iron one of the minerals that actually increase your water ppm.
@theflytrapgardenfilms8 ай бұрын
Good to see you here Mr Stryker! As always, thank you for your insight. You always give such great information! That makes alot of sense. What was most confusing to me when I thought about this, is that the pork was the most processed food item as it was a pork sausage and the others were their raw versions. So maybe because it was more processed, it actually had less nutrition and therefore didn't cause burn?
@donivanstryker13408 ай бұрын
@@theflytrapgardenfilms Well here in the US pork sausage is stuffed inside actual intestine so it is natural and processed as well. Now I am not an expert at this but perhaps because of the different type of animal either the meat is processed more or possibly processed with different chemicals which would in my mind account for why all the meats had different reactions.
@theflytrapgardenfilms8 ай бұрын
Oh wow that's different to here, I think sausage is stuffed in an artificial type of casing but I could be wrong. But it's very interesting how the different types of meats could be processed differently, which led to the results we found

I think the main problem is the size of the meat samples. I feel the rest is pretty valid. Raw Fish (sushi is always frozen first to prevent parasites from developing) and Beef are things people can eat and not get sick from. Raw pork and Chicken, absolutely not (and in fact "American" meat tends to be heavily contaminated which is why it needs to be cooked, where as meat butchered in Japan with the same experiment might have different results.) I'd also theorize that the reason none of the cooked foods worked (except the pork) was simply that the plant can't digest a cooked protein, and the pork might have been small enough for the plant to deal with.
@jayhill21933 ай бұрын
I will contest you on your claim that raw pork is a no go. I am German and very much love my Mettbrötchen with Mett being of course raw pork. Also chicken sushi is a specialty in Japan, but the safety standards as you can imagine have to be rigurous for that to happen and I wouldn't try it,

I used to feed mine very small pieces of meat, far smaller than what you gave them, and while they did stay closed longer, eventually they opened again, without problem. try again with a far smaller piece, less than a quarter of what I saw.

But makes you think that every life form has its own diet. And there is subtle thought in a word "rottin" with health' for every individual. Our diets should be simple what body needs most. For humans fiber and protein, healthy fat and complex carbohydrates (not simple sugars). Excess of different substances, just makes your body rot. Even if it has some resistance for awhile.

I think "meat" must move inside trap to stimulate it, food presetvants dont go well wirh plants and also i think (I'm not sure) bugs usually dry out when they die instead of rotting. How about giving trap a fly larva?
@theflytrapgardenfilms4 ай бұрын
Maggots usually kill off the traps (I used to feed them to young traps but stopped now lol). However the food doesnt need to move for a very long time to stimulate digestion, just until about the sealing process starts

@HartmutRick4 ай бұрын
But none of the plants died, did they? I'm not convinced that there is a fundamental difference between flies and chicken/pork/fish etc. Provided that the trap properly closes (which might not happen for a piece of meat, so you need to simulate movement), it should all work just the same. Just keep in mind that a fly contains only tiny amounts of meat. The portions that you served are much much larger than a fly, probably equivalent to dozens of flies at the same time. No wonder the plant is struggling to digest all in one bite.
@NahualliUoxtitla4 ай бұрын
You're not convinced there's a fundamental difference between a fly and chicken/pork? Jesus...
@HartmutRick4 ай бұрын
@@NahualliUoxtitla Ok, well... 😀 So, I acknowledge that there are things that a chicken can do and a fly cannot, and vice versa. While they're alive, that is. What I really wanted to say, when it comes to their meat getting digested by a venus flytrap, they're chemically similar enough that it won't notice the difference. My suspicion is that the apparent difference shown in the video is solely due to the different quantities served rather than the exact type of meat.

I've had mine for ~40 years, never had any problems. Just keep them as bright as possible and as wet as possible. Temperature isn't critical, mine have survived -10 through +50 C. I plant them in pure peat without fertilizer. Lack of food will not kill them, they just don't grow very big.
