I was on the right side of a lot of bad play by the robots today. Better to be lucky than good indeed! (As a side note, these days I'm able to see the field on board 8. After the pop-up with the final score, the tournament shows up in my "History" tab, and I can see the other tables' results there.) Board 1 I opened 2C then bid 2S, ended up in 3N in the North. I set up hearts and clubs but still had no entries. As Pete says this was incorrect because there is now no chance to take the heart finesse after exiting a spade. Miraculously E saved me by switching to a heart and put me in hand, where I cashed all my clubs and made 11 tricks for 100%! Board 3 I doubled the 2H cuebid instead of going to 3H, then passed throughout, still ended up defending 4S. After a D lead I won with the Q & played my stiff club. W then took a losing finesse of the JS for some reason (playing me for a void spade?). Then they drew trump and ended up setting up my partner's JC for down 1. Board 4 I passed 4C because with W opening I was figuring on 7 clubs tricks and 2 spade tricks. I felt my partner could easily have one more trick, but counting on them for two tricks outside clubs was a losing bet at MPs. Turns out they had no tricks outside clubs but an 8-card suit so it worked out. Board 8 I got to 4S in the same way as Dutch (doubling 4H). Luckily in my case they mis-defended and I got out for only down 1. Turns out 4H goes down two and passing would have been an equal top.

Happy 300th WFIT on here! Maybe someday I'll be courageous enough to try one myself. 🙃

I had the same crazy auction on board 8 . Played on clubs as opposed to diamonds and they led me away with -1 so 50 was a great score .

Hi, thanks for the videos, learning a lot. On board 2, after the diamond lead I played A of clubs and a small club. I ducked two rounds of spades and won the third, hoping to clear East's spades. I cashed my diamonds and then played A of hearts and a low heart and East was endplayed. Very pleased with that.

Nice play

I got a diamond lead instead of a heart on board 2. I played on spades to establish a long trick, ran the diamonds and ended up with Ax opposite QJ in hearts and clubs. Thanks to the layout that allowed me the endplay for the ninth trick. Think that's better than playing on diamonds and exiting with a spade since it improves the chance of the fourth diamond being good and makes it more difficult for opponents to lead through my hand twice when both kings are offside. On board 8, I played on clubs, with the K & J crashing together. Given the hand with long hearts had short clubs I decided to try for spades 3-3 and draw them. When that failed I was down 3 for 25%

On board 8, I did let them play 2H, and it did make, and I still scored 75% on the hand! It was an odd tournament really: on hand 2 I got to 2NT by N and made plus 4 when GIB unblocked the HK! That was 85%. On hand 3 I let them play 4S and they conspired to go down (75%). On hand 7, I got to 6S by North which is only down 1, so scored 60%. I ended up with 72.3% without scoring more than 85.7% on any single board which might be some sort of record.

Nice tournament! I think it is always a good sign when it isn't all tops and bottoms to get a good score but just good consistent scores.

One board 1, I managed to get an extra trick by ducking an early heart. I was able to throw West in with a heart to lead a diamond into my tenace. This made a lot of sense to me, because he had short spades and short clubs, so I was able to squeeze and throw him in

Haha - I got 800 for passing. I felt my 16 count was too flat and it always seems right to do the opposite of what you should do with these weekly frees!

On 3 I took the abbasaba66 approach (1H/3H/5D) because in my experience the bots rarely get carried away with point ranges on these kinds of hands. On 7 I opened a somewhat offbeat 1D and my CHO launched us into 6S! Good call to attack their +110 in matchpoints even with a flat hand. I do think there is some wisdom to showing clubs before spades, but making 4C a cue bid is just bonkers. BTW ACBL just had a Retro Edition thing and the experts did not agree on whether 2NT was natural or unusual after opps bid and raise a major.

On board 7 the bloody robot went crazy and bid to slam themselves!!!!

Very cool 92% on the last board. :-)

I went one off for the same 92%. How unfair! :) I played clubs and the dumb robot crashed their clubs and I was able to draw trumps and enjoy the clubs after they ruff one

Interesting on board 7 how if you open 1C they respond 1S, and then a 3D overcall, followed by your 3S. At that point your partner drives to slam where they don't even investigate when you open 1NT as you chose. Seems strange to me.

Hmm, should have watched where you review the other players before writing this comment, oh well 😊

:) I had the same auction on 8, but didn't check the 5C bid assuming it MUST be for spades, opps, ended in 5S! What a stupid bidding sequence!

Board 2 two, I decided to present them a losing option, low heart from dummy trick 1, 9 and Ace, then a club to the Q and K, and indeed they cashed K of hearts and played another allowing me to discard Ace of Clubs, 660. I think not showing the 3 of hearts made it too difficult. Board three, I chose to double 2 H, not sure if it is better, but it does comply with the annotation. This provided east the room to bid 3 D, so no consideration of a save for me. Partner lead a diamond, I took the first round, switched to clubs. And then declarer took a first round finess allowing me to score Trump J, and to cash and continue diamonds, now declarer had to ruff so did not have enough discards to make. +100 Board four I copied you. I fail to understand how the bots let others play 4 clubs surely a 56 with 2 good suits is worth a second bid? 5C is a good save. Board eight, I passed 3 spades, that also lead to 4 H, but then my bot chose to pass. I tried to give him the message "We've forced them higher 2 times, good job, now they are going down" so I double, but that didn't come across, bidding 4S in the rebound. That is just sad ;) I did give up out of frustration, -150 The other board were copies too.
