Tried a powerloop got stuck in a tall tree and tryed getting it out with eveything i could throw or shoot at it with an Slingshot. even tried attaching a lead waight to an big stick with an strong fishing line attached to it and shoot at the drone to shake it out. No luck it either got stuck in the tree aswell orjust fell down without anything happening. After one month of trying to get it down, it finally gave up and fell to the ground but rain and sun had bend the frame and destroyed the electronics...

One of the first things I learned : a slingshot, Kevlar fishing line and lead weights are essential in this hobby in the case that a drone gets stuck in a tree. That would have gotten it out of the tree in just a few minutes.

Easiest way I’ve found is a $2 plastic ball chucker I use to throw tennis balls etc. for my dog. I use a reasonably heavy rubber ball with a lightweight bricklayers string line attached. The best thing about this setup is you can throw it very high and very accurately over the branch it’s stuck on which is almost impossible to do by hand once you go past a certain height, and the weight of the ball will pull the string line over and down on the other side. Then detach the thin string line and tie the end to strong rope, you can get 50 meter lengths of very strong cord at Bunnings cheap, then pull the thicker rope through using the thin string line. You now have a thick rope exactly where you want it and can grab each end of the rope and shake or bend the branch to get the quad out. It all fits in a $10 backpack I keep in my car boot so it’s there when I need it.
@johncitizen33615 жыл бұрын
My other advice would be run reversed props, the quad at least has a chance of pushing itself away when you crash into a tree and I noticed a significant reduction in how often my quad gets stuck since I changed all my quads over about a year ago and I hit trees a lot flying proxy through branch gaps etc.

I got my boyfriend's drone stuck in a tree less than 2 hours ago and he only bought it yesterday...$100 down the drain. Not a "climbable" tree. Would need the fire department to get it. I cried for about an hour because I felt so bad.

I just lost my drone in a tree, it started to drift for some reason, probably a short gust of wind, even though the day was not really windy. Worst possible time, and I cant even get it to move. It’s also a really tall tree, not climbable either. I guess I have to wait for wind again..

second drone works cool but my suggestion is use a rod under drone so cord doesn't tangle in props, my tool is a sling shot with a fishing reel on it, shoot led weight up and pull larger cord up . we have willow trees and they are not fun. pine trees are bad because quad may tumble into the center of tree and then you can't see it.
@AlexApol5 жыл бұрын
I've caught my quads in 80'+ trees. Best way to get them down is to tie parachute cord to another drone then fly to 3x the height of the tree. Then you try looping the cord over the branch with the drone.

No doubt about that I believe we all feel the same for us FPV pilots when we get stuck up higher than we want to be..., it’s dreadful, loose sleep if left overnight lol, or I will threw my arm out or my back out to retrieve my drone. Once took me six hours throwing sticks and rocks. There I was one summer day up in the forest area in Northern California stuck in a redwood tree. And what worked best for me was a grappling hook design like Im going to use it to climb myself up a building lol. That with that idea I used it to grab a hold of the branch and pull the whole sumbitch the down.

I made a set up that hooks to my Mavic that i hook a thin nylon length of line to it that is more than long enough to do the job, then tie it to a heaver rope and pull it over ! I have gotten a lot of drones out of trees for people that way ! If you do this, remember you have to fly down with that thin line so make sure your set up keeps the line clear of the props at all times ! Best of luck to whoever needs it !

Dont know how the restrictions lay on these two suggestions, but maybe a bow if you can have one, or make something like a air powered potato gun but loaded with a tennis ball with a string attached?

That’s the time when a spark would come in handy, easier to control exactly where you want the rope to go. Another idea I have thought of is to buy some thick pvc tubing with ends that are able to be joined together. You could get quite a few meters up without as much drama, just push up from underneath and flip it over to lower branches until you get it low enough that when it falls it’s not going to do too much damage.

Good job. You guys were lucky. I got my Avata stuck in a tree over water. I sent up my Mavic Pro 2 to do the rope over the branch rescue attempt and the Mavic got stuck in the tree as well. I yanked on the rope and the Mavic fell in some mucky water. I found it after many attempts with my head submerged and the muck trying to steal my shoes lol. Fortunately, I had flyaway coverage on the Avata and insurance on the Mavic, so both were replaced within a few weeks. I'm MUCH more careful now. Thanks for the informative and entertaining video :)

Been there many times, I've used a 14ft telescopic swimming pool pole with a hook at the end, reached a 20ft tree with some work but doable. I also reached a 30ft tree with a 10ft addition of pvc pipe at the end of the pool pole, very tricky, but also got a drome back. My other technique is described in a video, and it is 100% effective for tall trees within reason. If you land it on top of a 100 ft tree deep in the amazons, you are out of luck!

I lost a 2” micro at the top (seriously the topmost branches) of a 20m high tree on its maiden flight after an ill advised power loop. Luckily I had a 2.4ghz tracker button on it or I wouldn’t have even known which tree it was in. In the end I got 6 x 3m lengths of electrical conduit from Bunnings with joiners and used the tree as a pool cue bridge to get it down. The spot was popular for wedding photos and there is at least one photo of a happy couple with me halfway up the tree with a noodle like 18m retrieval rod in the background...

Read to the end: Couple of years ago, I flew my quad into a tall tree getting it stuck on a branch. I used the "soap on a rope” method (aka-wrench socket tied to rope). I was able to shake the quad down, but not without getting the rope permanently tied to that high branch. So I pulled hard on the rope, then quickly cut the rope, leaving my socket and the expended rope. Now you'd think this was the end of the story. One year later I was flying gaps and my quad again became entangled in that same tree. On closer inspection, the quad somehow found that remaining piece of rope from a year earlier and twirled that rope between the motor and prop...locking the motor tight! Luckily, a family was nearby enjoying watching me use the same technique “Soap on a Rope” now renamed “Dope on a Rope”. The eldest kid walked over and offered to climb up and fetch the quad. Fearing he’d fall and break his neck I was hesitant at first, but since other people where watching, waiting their turn when I was about to leave it, I agreed, but explained “at your on risk”. Kid looked 15yo, shimmied up the tree like he was born in a treetop nest, untangled the quad and brought it safely back to Mother Earth. I gave the kid $25 for his trouble, suggesting he buy lunch for his family...End of story...so far.

A sling shot is the best thing to carry in your bag. If not one of those plastic tennis ball throwers u use for tossing the ball t you do. Much easier to aim. Us fishing line attached to a stronger rope so u can pull through once in position. 30 years flying and both work great. Use fshingles weights for sling shot.

After 3 days of trying to get mine out of a tree, trying everything from making a pvc pole to shooting arrows with tennis balls, I had to call an arborist to get it with his bucket truck. Cost $70, but he ended up dressing some other trees on my property for no extra cost. :P I'd like to make a rescue drone, maybe with a functioning grabber on the bottom of it to pick stranded drones.
@maxiemusfpv1985 жыл бұрын
The rope idea is good for trees with a lot of wiggly and weak branches but many trees have stiffer branches and that technique will never work, Oak trees are notorious in my part of the woods to grab my quads or planes and not let go. Climbing may be required but remember that a quad or a plane is never worth yours or someone's life, so don't be dumb.

When trying to see where my crashed quad was in the dense top of the tree, activating the beeper didn't help as much as I'd liked, primarily because of the single note it makes, much like when you hear sirens in a city and have trouble pinpointing where they're coming from, which is why some ambulances now have modified sirens that also emit a short burst of white noise. A buzzer that can do loud white noise might really help locate where your downed quad is.
@jamesellis54455 жыл бұрын
@licensetodrive white noise wouldn't help if you have Tinnitus or during Cicadae season here in OZ.
@licensetodrive99305 жыл бұрын
@James Ellis I have tinnitus, not severe but the constant high pitch whine I have can sometimes be loud enough that being in completely silent environments drives me nuts. However white noise doesn't really affect it, it's high pitch frequencies near to what it's producing in my head that can make it worse, and also it gets louder when I get too tired.
@jamesellis54455 жыл бұрын
@licensetodrive I sadly know what you mean, I'm also a sufferer and with the hissing, buzzing and humming going on in my head it's hard to distinguish any other sounds clearly, especially white noise. If you've been to OZ in summer when 15k Cicadae are all chirping at the same time and they suddenly stop, the sound carries on in my head.

The only time I got it in a tree, I just armed and (gently!) jostled it off. It took a few attempts, it matters to see what props are stuck so to rev up only the others. It helps to have air mode off or idle speed zero. But the stuck motor will have the esc quit after a few attempts.

Shot at it with pellet gun, then tied a fishing weight to some fishing line tried throwing (to taxing on arm for a low ratio of getting it high enough) went to store and bought heavy 1 oz weights, tied them on heavy duty fishing rig. First cast went directly over the drone and over the tree and landed on the ground 20yds past the tree. Pulling it back through the tree it hung on a limb (twig) directly above the drone. When it came loss it jumped over the drone. No glory. Stayed at it till it got too dark to see the drone. Went back next day and got it out on 5 th try!!

Next time stu bring a madic handle or shovel (need 2) wrap it around both ends you will be able to shake it 10 times harder with something that strong that's what I did.

I got mine stuck in the lake! As I was taking off my drone suddenly hits the water. Then as I'm looking at my drone sinking I look to the edge of the lake when I took off at. I notice a weed swaying forward and back. DAMN WEED!!

I have used another quad with a hooked rope to drop near or on the stuck quad. Your tree looks grippy, lots of little twigs.

The worst place I got my drone stuck: tangled in reeds and submerged in the middle of a storm pond. Let me tell you, you can't use a golf ball for the rescue. I had to walk into the dirty water up to my waist to retrieve it.... in the middle of January! :)

That was a fun rescue mission. Always a great time hanging out, especially so when Tony starts talking about his 12 inches 😂😂😂

I can imagine what you felt after losing the drone in the tree, today I lost my brand-new GEP RC CX3 out in a high grown field after a flyaway. That sucks. Dammit.

Use a sling shot with a sinker to shoot fishing line. Then tie the fishing line to some thinker string then drag the string over and then start yanking

Parra cord with a tennis ball on one end and keep a tennis racket in the boot of your car. Also I have a pool ball with a hole through it is handy also.✌

The worst for me was when my quad was blown by a gust of wind high up into a big mango tree over a river. A local man and 10 bucks (equivalent in our currency) did the trick! 😊 👍

I have my 3inch that stuck at roughly 80m tall branches (I don't know if anyone ever able to retrieved such as tiny 3 inch). Stuck for almost 3 weeks and in the end I had my mate to flown LOS with angle mode with another 5 inch with rope tied to it and go over the branch and just cut the throttle and let it fall. Took 4 attempts and even the rope hit the target branch the kwad won't budge at all. Finally the rope being tied up to a 4wd truck and just took off a group branches. Ps. There's a couple of heavy windy storm passing through the area but even that the kwad won't budge at all.
