Love your content and other videos but I have to disagree on this one. I'm 7k mmr, slightly lower than you so it's not like I don't know what I am talking about. The inability to last hit in this video is due to the inefficient/wasteful movement of the lower mmr player and also the bad adjustment to turn rate. Changing the settings isn't gonna help them become better. There's also settings like Quick attack and Smart Attack Move that you didn't touch about. Having auto attack on griefs you in certain situation, when smoke break, juking, hitting enemy sentry on cliff when warding when you dont want to, playing tinker etc. Standard gives you 100% control of your hero while auto attack on means you're not in control 100% of the time. You need to hit/hold S so frequently. This is why pros all use Standard attack.

Thanks for the feedback. The advice given here is merely a suggestion that might work for some to rid of their habits temporarily, but as mentioned in the video there are hundreds of other factors that can cause inefficiencies and bad movements. The problem with standard is that if you aren't aware of what your hero is doing all the time, there will be instances where you will be standing around doing nothing and wasting seconds, especially in big fights. This is more of a preference setting, but it does not mean that one is better than the other and vice versa. Everyone has built in habits to the game, and there is always a solution that works for one and not for the other.

These left to right movements might be because people have played LoL before. It's a better practice there to always stay moving because the threat of getting hit by a skill shots is always there because they are relatively low mana cost and low cooldown.
@BalloonDota

Yes, I am a former LoL player as well and I understand this. But even in league, if that movement that you are doing is movement that puts yourself constantly out of position and achieves nothing, you will end up missing many last hits and losing track of priorities in lane. Many good players play with auto attack on 'Standard', the only difference is that they only move if they have to move, as you said to avoid hits/dodge spells/put themselves in more aggressive positions to trade. But if this is not the purpose, then everything the players does will now become extremely inefficient and the time spent moving and clicking will add up in the long run into minutes of inefficiencies.

This is a dota 1 mechanic where auto attack can't be turned off it's always on so you either have to waddle around or Press S every second. There's a fix to this if you're a dota 1 player with this habit only click forward and back and auto right click helps a lot when dodging spells and shitty pathing.
@Zero-Saber

Interesting. Definitely helpful for core players and more right-click oriented heroes. Probably not so good when you're playing support. I wish it cold be togglable instead of having to hold a button. I tested it in demo and it's seems pretty easy to implement and could be beneficial during lanening. I'll test it in games and see how it goes.
@BalloonDota

Hi, I would still stand by the point of having it on even for supports, in fact more so because as a support, trading with the opponents is very crucial especially in the laning phase. When skilled players do everything faster than the general player ranging from farming speed, reacting and trading, this option allows even a support to be on par with trading speed because it compensates for reaction time during the trading in lane. Having to hover your mouse over to right click / A + left click would always be slower than comboing the holding down of S button with A + left click during trading. Hope that makes sense.
@rahulpillai1271
@rahulpillai1271 Жыл бұрын
I think the combination of quick attack turned on + Stop S solves the problem of having to press A. You can just click the creep and hold S until it's about to die. This distributes the workload to both your hands (left and right) as opposed to the left hand taking a toll on doing both A and S simultaneously. Thanks for your content though, love it!

Hi, you need to combine multiple methods to last hit, not just use one. The tip provided in this video adds another method on for you to last hit without having to mouse over to the creep to be faster, but if you want to manually select a creep, you still need to manually click on that specific creep.

That's a very interesting thing you've pointed out, and that's actually exactly a problem i've been doing recently. But one thing I haven't heard you addressing is "What do you do instead? What's your proposal"? You're saying that "just moving for the sake of moving" is bad in lane. What's the solution? Standing completely still? Or something else? I don't believe the auto-attack setting was part of the solution, was it? They don't seem very much connected if so. Thank you :)
@BalloonDota
@BalloonDota Жыл бұрын
Hi, the solution is basically to make smaller movements if there isn't any real purpose to move. The further you put yourself away from creeps, the harder time you will have to reach the creep before the enemy does. This also applies to the mouse cursor placement. If you want to move, you should move to avoid the enemies coming after you to hit you or to avoid a spell that they are obviously going to throw based on distance, heroes, strengths vs weaknesses etc. The movement needs to be meaningful in the sense that if you are strong, you will chase and fight them down. If you are weak, you will stand behind creeps further a bit so you don't get chased down or hit for nothing and only moving in when a creep is about to die for you to time your last hit. Else, if there isn't any reason to move, don't move too much and just sit close behind creeps. Hope that explains it.
@BalloonDota
@BalloonDota Жыл бұрын
The auto attack option is just a method to get rid of the habit of clicking for the sake of clicking or else your hero does nothing. Enabling the auto attack will force you to stop your hero from moving into a creep after you have moved/if you are near enough to a creep to hit it. At the same time, it allows your hero to turn to the creep faster than the opponent who needs to hover their mouse over to the creep and still take into consideration turn rate, mouse placement etc. Of course, the auto attacking is not a solution to the problem, its simply an alternative that MIGHT fix the bad habits.

The first one is a habit that's actually good in other games, even other mobas like league. E.g. in LoL, it doesn't take any time to turn your character around, so you can still instantly turn and initiate the last hit whenever needed - but moving unpredictably in between is super important, if you would just stand still, people would harass you out of lane super quickly. Ofc in dota with turn speed being a thing and fewer skill shots and way less skill usage due to mana costs, it's completely different.
@BalloonDota
@BalloonDota Жыл бұрын
If the movement is with intent to dodge skill shots then yes, it would make sense to do so. But if the movement is adding on to putting themselves out of position to get harassed for no real reasons, then that is something else completely.
@genericnameinc
@genericnameinc Жыл бұрын
@@BalloonDota yeah as I said, in dota it's not such a good idea. In league, low cool downs, low mana costs etc means moving a lot and being unpredictable is usually correct, no downside to it in that game though - for Dota I agree, it's often bad. I totally agree with "always attack" though. I didn't even know it's not the default setting. It is in league, and using stop there is usually a death sentence, so that's why I think it might be a habit people developed there and carried over to DotA

@BalloonDota
@BalloonDota Жыл бұрын
Hey there. Last hitting is also strictly based on catching the timing of your hero's attack projectile, turn speed and attack speed. These tips are mainly basing off efficient mouse movement and placement without unnecessary movements that could cause a player to miss a last hit due to being too far from the creep, getting hit by enemies for too much or having the mouse placed elsewhere.

@thienyetan2035

I dont agree at all. Its either you wanna last hit or you dont. You wanna stay as near as possible yet you dont wanna get harassed. People are baited for some of the last hits and get punished for it. They can learn to refuse some creeps and thats all. There is no problem with turning around at all, because you need to constantly be at a range of balance between getting harassed and last hitting. The point is not to not turn around "meaninglessly" but to turn around so that your hero is at a suitable range to go in and out.

Yes, that is exactly the issue. It also rids people of the right clicking and moving too much habit. Good on you to notice that and point that out. Every creep taken with a few milliseconds slower than the opponent will result in many missed last hits and also missed trading opportunities.

@BalloonDota
@BalloonDota Жыл бұрын
Hello, its not about whether you are moving back, forward, sideways or any of that matter. Its about moving with intent. If you are moving, it needs to achieve a purpose such as avoiding getting hit, dodging a spell, placing your hero nearer to the creep to get the last hit, staying far away then moving in to get the last hit to avoid getting harassed etc. You need to understand your movements, not just click for the sake of clicking or move a certain way only.
