Funny as mate. As the son of a WA cray fisherman we always had a 6 foot length of 4x2 with a fender lashed on each end and a couple of g clamps attached with lanyards. The idea was to clamp the board to the bow roughly in the centre , that stops it rotating when you tow it. Worked every time. Only works well if the dingy has that little forward deck with the bollard. If it was a fully open dingy we would run two lines under to the transom to the bow with a couple of snotte to stop the tow bridle moving, attach the board with the fenders or floats to the lines aft and under the dingy and then run the transom lines forward to the tow point in the stem. This allows the bow to come up so you can go full bore to lift it and empty it.
@DangarMarine5 жыл бұрын
That's a good idea, like a mini trimaran. It's amazing how quickly a boat will empty once you get it up on the plane.

My suggestion is drill a hole in the bottom and install the drain and plug from a bath. When my bath is full of water, I can pull the plug out and it all drains away. I don't know why some people need an engineering degree, when you can fix a complex problem with a very simple solution.

Recently my small aluminum boat sank. I needed a rescue just like this one but in a severe dangerous scenario. At least, the boat survive and recive the new name of "Costa Discordia" (Costa because of the Costa Concordia sank'ed ship and Discordia because it means no point of agreement in spanish). The one who recive a deep wound was the engine; a 1956 Johnson 15 hp... he survive, but a new set of coils, a propeller, two condensors and a pair of motor mounts will be neded to bring him back to life. Ironicly using this motor on an other boat I save a lot of sailboats and other kind of motor boats with it last summer, but because of a lot of huge waves he surrender and go down. Great videos! And thanks for the nautical lessons!

Love the new name. :)

It seems to me that what is needed is to rig a bridle to the bow of the boat being rescued. Then line the boats up stern to stern and begin pulling. The boat being rescued will then flip end over end to be right side up and have water flowing over the hull immediately to help stabilize it and keep it from rolling again. Hard to rig a bridle on a boat which only has a foot or so of the bow sticking out of the water, I know. Especially so if there are no bow cleats on either side to rig to. Another thought might be to rig a single line to one side of the rolled boat as well as a line to the bow eye. The towing boat could start out perpendicular to the rolled boat on the side opposite where the side line is tied. That line would take up the majority of the initial pull to roll the boat upright, then be cast off or slackened as soon as the boat is upright and allow the bow line to lake over pulling duty.

I wince pulled a motor out of an Owens cabin cruiser which had sunk in a lake In Arkansas, USA. The owner had just rebuilt the engine himself. He made couple of minor errors... one was that it had a water cooled manafold which he hooked up wrong and it pumped water into the boat until it sank! The other was that it had a Chrysler gasoline engine. Chrysler had changed from piston wrist pins with circlips at each end, which retained the wrist pins, to aluminum pads which went on the ends of the wrist pins to keep them from rubbing on the cylinder walls. They must have been free floating on the connecting rod small ends. They floated out and made grooves in the cylinder walls. It could have only run a few minutes. Just enough for him to get out into the lake a few hundred yards and sink.

Three plastic barrels and a re purposed boom vang is the best way I've seen to refloat these. One lashed to the bow and the pair on either side of the stern about 2 foot forward. Once it's above the water throw a bilge pump in and have a beer.
