I changed out the resin in my Fleck 5600 after 15 years. I followed your instructions to a T. My water pressure is now back to normal. This is after a plumber told me 'I believe your water softener is shot'. So glad you posted this video. You saved me a ton of money Paul. Thank You so much !!!

So there was less resin in your water softener tank and that was leading to low water pressure on parallel use? And filling up the resin restored water pressure ? i.e. on parallel use, water pressure is good?

Just used your process with great success... Thank you! The only build I can add is when cleaning out the small amount of resin outdoors, place the tank on a slope on top of a beach towel. This way the remaining resin winds up in the towel and can be easily disposed of rather than decorating your lawn for years to come.

I have the same kinetic system with a rust remover tank and salt hopper. To be clear you cleaned and replaced resin in BOTH of your tanks right? My questions -1. where do you buy the resin - 2 how full do you fill the resin tank? - 3 is there a torq spec on the head when you reassemble head to tank - 4 where does a guy find spare parts (large head oring etc) for head - 5 how did you manually prompt the cleaning cycle to begin after you had your system is assembled? Is there a website for more info on this kinetic system? Thank you in advance

Like was already said here.. ratchet strap a pillow case to the top. Cut a small hole in it near the top. Lay the tank on its side onto a 6x6 post (tank bottom) and 4x4 post (tank top). Cut a hole in pillow case near top and insert garden hose. Flushes all filter media/resin out in seconds. Picking those tanks up risks a hernia or future back problem. Have a similar unit, think mine is a Model 735 judging by dimensions, but looking at the specs it appears that it's only good up to 40 GPG, and the water company that installed it years ago undersized it, as my water is over 52 GPG. Don't know if I should rebuild or just buy a higher capacity unit at this point. It never seemed to work well from the install.

Gravel is usually used to bed the distributor tube its poured up to the top of the bell housing just to keep it from raising up when the resin is poured in which can happen from time to time but if that happens just put a water hose with low pressure and send it down the raised tube and itll shoot water out the slits at the bottom causing the resin to loosen and the tube will immediately go down to position you just gotta hold it in place and screw the head back on. Also wanted to add being someone who does this for a living I have absolutely no complaints the methods in this video were well done!
@DOLRED
@DOLRED 8 жыл бұрын
Oh, Kinetico, the good stuff. Have seen a few videos which indicate gravel goes in the bottom of the tank? Was not aware that gravel was in the bottom. Likewise, the resin only fills the tank to a certain level. Not sure what I want to do on ours. Maybe the local Softener outfit would rebuild it. But then, a new softener is probably cheaper since I will have to replace some of the valve parts.

I used Nelson Cation Resin which is a standard high-capacity, high purity, 8% crosslink mesh. .75 cubit feet per tank (Kintico K60) And yes, this will treat water with iron in it. Remember however, that over time iron will foul resin and can reduce flow rate. I found the best price at water-softeners-filters.com.

Gravel is usually used to bed the distributor tube it should be filled to the top of the screen. The reason is because sometimes depending on the method the resin is being poured into the tank it can cause the tube to raise up out of the neck higher than it should be and the gravel prevents this but if that ever happens just take a garden hose with low pressure and send the water down the distributor tube itll shoot out the slits at the bottom loosening up the resin and the tube will go down immediately. You just have to hold it in place because the water now at the bottom can cause the tube to float if not held while you screw the head back on. The reason for all this is because if the head is screwed on and the tube is out of alignment it will bend inside the tank and constant regenerations at high pressure will cause it to collapse eventually. But no gravel isnt needed.

Food Porn Network ; I did it myself. Very easy with the right advice. I got great advice from softenerparts dot com. I have nothing to do with them at all and no reason to recommend them other then they talked me through the entire process including ordering the right partsAnd how to do the installation. I’m sure there are other companies but that website was top notch

This is a Kinetico K60 and takes .75 (3/4) cubit feet of resin per tank. I used Nelson Cation Resin which is a standard high-capacity, high purity, 8% crosslink mesh. I got the best price at water-softeners-filters.com

Mark Witmer Hey thanks for letting me know Mark. I am pretty mechanical but I have no idea what’s behind that. I am glad my Kinetico system does not have gravel as it’s one less thing that I have to mess around with. I absolutely love my softener which I’ve had now for over 20 years. Hope you have a nice memorial day.

Awesome video! I was looking for the exact steps. I have repaired 2 kinetico's that were damaged by previous home owners who did not replace the salt and let them run without recharging properly! My current unit has two double piggybacked smaller tanks, (4 small ones total) so I will need to find the proper resin capacity for these. Thanks for the detailed steps i needed!!!

No I think that’s a quad tank. Two for softing the water, regular resin beads but the other stacked tank I think is for carbon breakdown. So that water softener is doing two functions at once. I think.

Thanks for the video. I cleaned my softener brine tank this past weekend and that was very dirty. The water coming out of the cold tap still has a brown haze to it and I have done the screwdriver back flush numerous times but no real change so do you think replacing the resin will do the trick? I should say that this Kinetico system is probably about 22 years old.

I'm glad you liked the video. Yes, it's a Kinetico K60. I did strap the other tank to the pole and it came off easy like the tank with the main valve. Without strapping it to the pole though I couldn't get either one off. Once the heads were off it was really easy to perform everything else.

I have the same K60 you have and I’m about to replace the resin in both of my tanks now and had a couple questions. First, after strapping the tanks to the pole to remove the head and the other piece what tool did you use to get them off. I don’t want to damage either piece! Also, after a year of use how has it been performing? Are you pleased with the results?
