Gravel is usually used to bed the distributor tube its poured up to the top of the bell housing just to keep it from raising up when the resin is poured in which can happen from time to time but if that happens just put a water hose with low pressure and send it down the raised tube and itll shoot water out the slits at the bottom causing the resin to loosen and the tube will immediately go down to position you just gotta hold it in place and screw the head back on. Also wanted to add being someone who does this for a living I have absolutely no complaints the methods in this video were well done!
@DOLRED8 жыл бұрын
Oh, Kinetico, the good stuff. Have seen a few videos which indicate gravel goes in the bottom of the tank? Was not aware that gravel was in the bottom. Likewise, the resin only fills the tank to a certain level. Not sure what I want to do on ours. Maybe the local Softener outfit would rebuild it. But then, a new softener is probably cheaper since I will have to replace some of the valve parts.

He didn't, that's a big mistake!
@mikedorsey71194 жыл бұрын
Gravel is usually used to bed the distributor tube it should be filled to the top of the screen. The reason is because sometimes depending on the method the resin is being poured into the tank it can cause the tube to raise up out of the neck higher than it should be and the gravel prevents this but if that ever happens just take a garden hose with low pressure and send the water down the distributor tube itll shoot out the slits at the bottom loosening up the resin and the tube will go down immediately. You just have to hold it in place because the water now at the bottom can cause the tube to float if not held while you screw the head back on. The reason for all this is because if the head is screwed on and the tube is out of alignment it will bend inside the tank and constant regenerations at high pressure will cause it to collapse eventually. But no gravel isnt needed.

I have that same exact Kinetico unit. How much resin did you put in each tank? I believe my resin is severely iron fouled and plan on doing this replacement too.

This is a Kinetico K60 and takes .75 (3/4) cubit feet of resin per tank.

Using a pillow case to dump the tank into, versus garbage bags, works. It allows the water to pass through, leaving the resin beads behind...

You said one of the keys to dpoing this is knowing how much resin to put in...then you never told us or mentioned the amount again? So how do we know?

You will need to contact the manufacturer of your water softener.

Thanks for the video. I cleaned my softener brine tank this past weekend and that was very dirty. The water coming out of the cold tap still has a brown haze to it and I have done the screwdriver back flush numerous times but no real change so do you think replacing the resin will do the trick? I should say that this Kinetico system is probably about 22 years old.

The resin probably just needs a good cleaning with Rescare which you can find on Ebay.

I have a bad back so I used a shop vacuum to get the resin out.

Is that a model 60 tank or unit? I enjoyed your video. Oh yeah another question,how was it getting the other top off of the other tank that wasn't shown in the video?
@proclaimliberty20008 жыл бұрын
I'm glad you liked the video. Yes, it's a Kinetico K60. I did strap the other tank to the pole and it came off easy like the tank with the main valve. Without strapping it to the pole though I couldn't get either one off. Once the heads were off it was really easy to perform everything else.

I have the same K60 you have and I’m about to replace the resin in both of my tanks now and had a couple questions. First, after strapping the tanks to the pole to remove the head and the other piece what tool did you use to get them off. I don’t want to damage either piece! Also, after a year of use how has it been performing? Are you pleased with the results?

Great video! I have the same system that you have. Do both tanks have resin that needs changed, and how much resin did you need? Thank you, Dave

Nelson Cation High-Capacity Resin, 8% crosslink mesh, 3/4 Cubic Foot Bag Per Tank. Purchased from water-softeners-filters.com who had the best price. Hope this helps.

Depends on the size of the media tank, is there carbon in there also? And unlike this guy, put filler media /gravel to cover the bottom basket!

Sorry if you have 2 tanks I'm sure the first one is going to be your cardon filter
