i'm an RN and I had a home health care patient years ago, a 72 year old man. He had been married for over 40 years. He and his wife were heavy drinkers. They got into a very nasty fight and he said some really bad things to her and stormed out of the house and went for a long walk. When he calmed down he felt really bad about the things he said to her so he started to head back home to apologize. He found her on the bedroom floor. She had fallen and hit her head on the corner of their bed frame. She was dead. When he told me about it he started to cry. I had never seen an old man cry before.

We lost my grandmother to a stroke, she was only starting her 80’s, we lost my grandfather to old age at 94 and my best friend, he didn’t even get to live his life to the age of 18, I never got to say goodbye to any of them. If I could change anything, it would be that I would wanna be there in their final moments to send them off peacefully, smiling and showing them how strong I could be to make sure they never had a worry or a regret. I had no idea my friend died until it was too late, and my grandparents died after I had an argument with my relative and it always hurts in the end that I never did anything to show them how much I loved them. I couldn't help my best friend when he was going through mental struggles, hold him close and tell him that everything was going to be alright. He was the first person who treated me like a human being and not some nuisance that could be tossed around and ridiculed. Since then, I had nothing but regret and I can never get over that fact, I always find myself lamenting over it and I hindered myself from doing things like going to my grandparents' room or seeing pictures of my friend because it was so painful to even look at. Even typing this out, I feel the tears in my eyes. I can't move on and I can't do anything about it.

This situation so reminds me of something my mother said to me a couple weeks before she croaked. She said the g.d. DOG was more important to her than me, her own daughter!! I wish she was kidding. She made sure to say she wasn't. I don't know what her reasoning was in saying that to my face, but she was the type of person who, if she was miserable, every single person in her vicinity was made miserable by her. I'm now catching heat from my three siblings over my absolute refusal to attend any services for her. I endured nearly daily verbal abuse from her when she was alive - I don't need to go to any services that say what a kind & loving person she was. She most definitely was NOT nice to anyone, so why should I go & pretend otherwise? 🤔

@@tazhmoye My two older siblings haven't experienced her meltdowns in Technicolor, so they have been putting the most pressure on me to attend. My younger sister has experienced some of her meltdowns & constant complaining, so she understands my point of view somewhat. I don't think even she has experienced so much downright hatred. I spent a LOT of time in my bedroom to stay away from her, yet she still picked on me & was snarky through the door. She believed that she could say & do whatever because it was her house. I caught a huge amount of shit because I wouldn't put up with her attitude. Unfortunately, I experienced physical abuse from her a time or two. When I said I would call the cops on her the next time it happened, she said, "Who are they going to believe: a sweet, old lady, or you?" I pretty much stayed out of her arms' reach after that. I have waist-length hair, & she fights dirty. One time, I was in the hospital for something else, & had to explain to the doctors why I had a huge black eye. Guess who did that? I'm glad she's gone. It's the first time I've truly felt at peace. Now, if only I could send her my bills for years of therapy... 🙄

I saw bits of this episode on KZbin shorts so I know the outcome. The two sisters got in a car crash. Holly, the one who was driving, had a head injury that was really bad. They saw something wrong with her eyes and thought it could be a basilar skull fracture, so they took her to run some tests when the younger sister named Emma said "I hope you die!" Holly later flatlines because of the head injury and her nose starts bleeding. Brain matter is found in the blood. Later on, they had done surgery on her but were unable to save her, since blood flow was not able to be restored to the brain. Holly was officially brain dead and kept alive by machines, and Emma began to suffer major regret and guilt, and refused to accept that Holly would die, since she didn't want those words to be the last thing Holly would hear. Emma kept having hope that her sister would wake up. Unfortunately, she did end up dying, and her organs were donated.

But the comment says you can't see brain matter in blood from the nose with just a torch- which you can't. if the skull was cracked open then you could see brain matter in blood. but in a nosebleed? with only your eyes and a normal torch no

As tragic as this is, the younger sister was 100% right to say exactly what happened, and the older sister was basically willing to risk both their lives in not saying anything just to keep their parents from finding out. Crappy older sister, and now the younger sister will blame herself for being justifiably angry just because that was their last exchange. If anything, the older sister should be carrying her regret beyond the grave, because that could have been the younger sister instead.

Finally found someone who can see it! Bothers me so much that everyone's just focusing on how awful it is to impulsively say such a thing (which it is, obviously) and not at all on the fact that before the little sister ever says that she's already been wound up by the older sister constantly screaming at and name calling her for choosing to be responsible and answer questions posed by the professionals who are trying to help them.

Siblings fight and say horrible things but be careful what you say and wish for it may come true. Words cut and scar beyond any level that not even the finest surges can fix them. Never let anger be the last words your love one hears. You may never get that chance to say "I am sorry."

That’s why I never say most of the things I would love to say to my parents. I always tell them “I love you, be safe” when they’re leaving. No matter how angry I am at them. You never know if those are the last words you’ll get to say to the people you care about, and love dearest.

The way my mom raised us was to hug every morning before school and say i love you before you hang up because you never know if it'll be the last time you ever get to say it or feel that person's hug. We think its bc our grandpa passed away so quickly from colon cancer. He was in California, we were all the way in Montana and grandpas nurse wouldn't let her talk to him. She ended up changing his will to go to her. Mom was so devastated over his loss she barely fought it. She did, however, want her license taken away. She fought that. But we found out yrs later she just moved states and started the process all over again, but with different families.

There's a nifty way to make decisions I learnt a while back. Faced with two choices toss a coin, if it lands on heads and you regret losing tails then you should go with tails cause that's what you really wanted. Today I learnt it's extensible obviously in that you lose someone and you realize, God I really needed this and also there were a number of possible paths I could pursue, now I think I know what I want most because that stung most. I'm going to focus a little because this message is important. You sent a message yesterday which also arrived at a deep insight - the world revolves around people. This is a huge hit for her. And true to that I've observed a change of behaviour that confirms it. Talk more tomorrow.

My family suck at saying we love each other but occasionally we would say it-just we can’t say it anymore to my brother. He passed away 2022 from an accident with a DUI driver. I was in denial for a few days hoping the police officers had it wrong and he would suddenly come home. I often tell my deceased brother and my mother I couldn’t stop him or make him listen to me but the most I can do is bury him yet I still hope and was very confident at that time I wouldn’t have to. He was very hard headed, stubborn, and fearless that I thought nothing would get him. A few months before my brother passed I had extreme anxiety and insomnia. I kept thinking of death and thought it was gonna be me so I prep my insurance and my assest. I even had a thought passed thru - between my two brothers who would I rather die? I told this voice in my head to F off n if it must take someone, take me. Even after 2 years I think I still grieving. Now I tell my family, “you let me die first” “you have to live long enough to cremate me. N I am not asking u, I am telling you.” I kinda think my family is curse. We passed away in pair. A week after my bro passed, my direct uncle’s wife passed. This year my dad passed and a week prior to his passing, a close auntie from our family branch passed.

I remember the last time I talked to my step dad and being angry with him because he chose to go to a casino with no mask with lots of health problems and had done some other things to my son that pissed me off. He missed calling my son on his birthday and didn’t call for a few weeks. That is when he told us he had been in the hospital. He was an ahole my whole life til had my son and calmed down a bit. The night before he passed he was with my mom and sister and sincerely apologized to them. He asked my mom if he called me and my son and apologized to us would we accept it. He also told her for the first time in my life how proud of me he was. He passed away the next night without making that call. It’s been a few years and it still hurts that the last time we spoke I was so angry and he didn’t know if we would forgive him. While I would have loved to hear from him what he told my mom it does give me some peace to know that he did love us and was proud of me. Always tell the ones you love that you love them, you are proud of them, or anything else that they may need to hear no matter how angry you maybe. You could wake up one morning and they are gone.
