It's actually the same as Law of attraction ! Talk about what you want, not about what you did or what you don't want, then you'll attract what you want! But the issue is that most ppl are doing things out of fear! Fear that they don't have for the rent, means to an end (a whole different topic,as the life IS the journey not the goal)anyways. HOW do we get rid of that fear and take the leap for we need the rent money! Fear is not the issue for me anymore BUT my logic is! HOW can I trust my dream will come true by taking the leap (I've taken a half leap if it's possible to say so, but I'm single mom with bills to pay and a stupid desease that hinder me to be financially free from government help 😒 SO WHAT now? I believe in everything you said ; I KNOW it's tge truth & I'm too old to be afraid , but outside forces like my illness hinder Mr to take a plunge but what plunge, for I have taken it...Do I make any sence at all, anywho I'd like to know how to remove obsracles ? Thnx for great channel, just found it! Xoxo MonsterMom 😊 ❤ 👍

I can only speak from my experience, but I find that telling people what I want to do excuses myself from trying to achieve that goal. I get the "high" of telling people my goals instead of working towards them. It also makes it unclear in my head whether or not I'm working towards something to impress people or not. If I shut up and work, not tell anyone, I know deep down that I'm doing it simply because I want to. This sort of approach is backed up by the 48 laws of power, which is a great read

I hate that question. Asking someone what they do is just a way to judge them. Some people are so used to asking they aren't even aware that they judge on the answer, but they do. When someone asks me what I do, I usually just say "about what?" It usually gets people rattled. Then I'll change the conversation or just input a "what" into the silence and tell them what I do about.....substituting honey for sugar in recipes, or how I like to do the 'Barney' when I'm gettin jiggy with it; etc. If they continue to go back to that question I'll call them out and ask them why they want to know and suggest it's a judgment question and ask them if they are just wanting to judge me.

I can agree with this. During dog walking times I meet a lot of people and am never shy about what I do and what I intend. One person I spoke to, I told her that I was writing a book. Turned out she was/is a published author and was interested. I showed her my first chapter, she liked it, she showed it to her published, he liked it and the door has swung open. Being open about goals and plans worked/is working for me. There are of course, also people who have put my plans down but they really don't matter to me, after all, they have nothing to show for their doubt.

This also plays into the law of attraction, if you believe in that. You're putting it out into the world that you are what you want to be, because saying "sorta kinda maybe" is just not believing in yourself and admitting that it's just a "hobby" when really if it's your passion it's a way of life. "Aspiring" counts as the real thing in my book because there is no moment or event that says "you're the real deal now" because that's different for everyone and every field, it's all about you and your journey, not what other people think is a "real so and so" or a "professional." For example, if you make art, you're an artist and so on, to some extent if you do it, you are it. And you have to be delusional if you want to chase your dreams because dreams aren't practical, dead end jobs are practical and realistic and they pay the bills. If you want to live the life you want, you kinda have to be crazy and live a somewhat unconventional lifestyle, you won't miss the safety and security of a boring career when you get to where you're going, trust me

This is only the second video of yours that I have seen, and I subscribed. Very good points. I have always hated the fact that most people, upon meeting most people, will ask, almost immediately: "What do you do?" As if that matters. As if the answer defines who I am. But now I'm thinking that, if I answer that question in terms of who and what I want to be, that changes the impact of the question. Oh, and on a side note, I'm a native Californian who moved out of California five months ago. In all of the conversations I have had in my new home, nobody has ever asked me "What do you do?" That doesn't change what I have gleaned from this video, though. It's more like a double bonus!

This is what I've always done (or tried to do). Here's some advice: It only works when all the people you're talking to are strangers. I've tried it many times when I'm meeting someone with my sister or a friend. I'll say, "I'm a writer," because that's what I'm working on becoming. My sister/friends will scoff and say, "No, you're not." Then it becomes unnecessarily awkward and, unless you're impervious to criticism and judgement, your confidence will be taken down a notch, again, unnecessarily.
@cellblock7766 жыл бұрын
This is so wrong that I can't even figure it out after watching it twice. When someone asks in casual conversation "What do you do for a living?" you answer with whatever your job is which pays the bills. Not your dream or fantasy career. It isn't meant to demean or insult the person. It is a way of learning about that persons live experiences and drive a conversation as the person asking may have a curiosity about that particular job. They may have worked a similar job in the past and share similar experiences. They may know someone in a similar career who can help the person they are asking to change jobs or move up in salary or career path. "Really, you are a waitress? That's cool. I have a buddy who owns several restaurants who is looking for experienced staff. I can get you an interview if you'd like." "Oh, you work at that restaurant? I was a dishwasher and busboy there when they first opened. It helped me get through college. Is old man Bill still managing the place?" The only thing rude is answering with a misleading statement like "I'm a screenwriter" when you have never written a anything which has been bought and put on screen. it doesn’t matter what you do but how passionate you are about people and things .. I work front on house in a hotel and do A - Z with and for international clients . Although my role is simple , my personal travel experience allows me to inject passion and personality into this role to the point where most clients persuade themselves that I am the house proprietor ...

The thing is, people who ask "What do you do?"' are looking for your occupation or day-to-day livelihood, not what you want to do, otherwise they would have asked, "What are your goals?" or something similar.

Actions will always speak louder than words. And In a world full of deceit, your best answer is to just follow the heart. As for the rest, well... Do whatever helps you sleep at night. I know there are those people who constantly need someone elses approval of everything they do.

Unfortunately we live in a world where job descriptions have become self descriptions so saying what you do is almost always going to conjure up some judgement from the person asking. Saying what you do and what you want also depends on who you are talking to. Perhaps a "why" should be included and then maybe say both.. "I do this because I want that" Your purpose stated in the "what do you do?" Can be very powerful and reinforcing.
@kurts37796 жыл бұрын
If your aim is to find out the truth of what a person does, its better to ask them what's their main source of income as that is usually the best indicator of what they do. I've had someone tell me that they are financial advisor when I ask them what they do, then when I asked what their main source of income is, they tell me they clean houses???? Perhaps they were experimenting with Steve Jobs reality distortion technique.

So, embellish your resume and then act surprised when people find out the truth and reject you. Honesty may not be the best policy, but at least I don't overpromise and underdeliver.

No. How about just truthfully answer the question that they asked. Simple. I don't think this video gave good reason to "Never tell" or much negative side to just answering the question. "Never tell people what you do... because... uh... no good reason really"
@terrybyrd51055 жыл бұрын
- Avoid situations where someone would want to know what you do. - If asked - be honest but don't give details in casual conversation. - Counter by returning the question. - Ask what they can do for you. - Disengage bullshitters politely yet tactfully. - Don't take it personal. - It's your occupation - do your best despite their opinion. * Sequence of suggestions may change per situation! * This doesn't exclude prospective employers. * Give details only when needed for clarity. * This doesn't include idle chatter seekers. Always remember: You work for You - not them!

I agree to a point to not tell people what you do,but I believe your wife/husband can know. I love my husband with every inch of my heart, and we USE to tell each other everything NO SECRETS. I thought our relationship was different, I have never trusted anyone in my life before till I met him, he saved my life!!!. I have been off work for 3 months and we have never fought so much in our almost 13 years of marriage.All because of the "hush hush rule" i'm assuming. I want to hear from him what he's doing. Our awesome marriage is in shambles cause of the fucking rule. Imo I wouldn't care wtf happened I would never keep something like this from someone I loved,and you know, I would accept ANYTHING he wanted to do whether it was good or bad. This is my life and thanks for fucking it up linked in!!!!I Really appreciate it.

I brave my way through an uncertain world. I've drank an ocean and climbed a mountain. I hardly slept working days and used to play live with bands. I've been down and out getting drunk at my guitar or a microphone and have lived sober as a technician assisting in the control of power flow putting work first above all. I've loved and given all my time to her over my job in selflessness. Sometimes I gaze at the stars at night trying to understand a deeper meaning to it all. The biggest challenge in all my life has been putting it all on a single page resume...

But... that cab driver is lying. Hes not a screenwriter, he's a cab driver with a fatuous day dream that interferes with his work. Youre telling people to emulate a city saturated with professional liars and manipulators. The key isnt dreams its discipline.
@F1Mike0006 жыл бұрын
Avenus112 how is he lying and how does it interfere with his work? The fictional cabbie writes screenplays, presumably in his free time. That doesn't mean anyone pays him for them. His vocation is driving and his avocation is writing.
@Avenus1126 жыл бұрын
F1Mike000 well, here's the reasoning. He responds to questions about his professional identity with his hobby, which means thats where his mind is. If his mind is on his hobby its not on his actual work. If his mind is not on his work then the hobby interferes with it. I mean, its the hypothetical person's life and he can do with it as he pleases but reasonable concern for him would advise him to focus.
