In the heart of Paris' historic 8th Arrondissement, two 23-year-old designers, one a furniture maker and one a budding architect, transformed a neglected apartment into an elegant, minimalist home with a calming neutral palette and walnut accents throughout. They designed and refurbished much of the space and furniture themselves, preserving its Parisian charm with classic parquet flooring and restoring the original fireplace and radiators. Low cupboards with continuous wood grain line the living room, extending around the fireplace and into the bedroom to form the bedhead and bedside tables. The sleek kitchen cabinetry seamlessly incorporates a hidden bedroom door and continues into the dining area, where it becomes a built-in bench seat or spare bed for guests.

Everything about this appartment is brillant. It is classy, minimalistic but not cold, modern but respectful of the heritage (fireplaces, flooring, radiators), elegant but without sacrificing practicality. I am usually not a fan of open kitchen but this one works perfectly. This is probably the best NTS video I ever saw.

Since when is 60 sqm apartment considered small in Europe? It's an absolutely comfortable size for 2 people.
@loukiab2777
@loukiab2777 4 ай бұрын
I was thinking the same thing. Most people the same age as the designers are lucky of they have a 20m2 apartment. 60m2 in Paris can NOT be considered small in any shape or form. The channel is evolving into Never Too Luxurious...

@vmoses1979
@vmoses1979 3 ай бұрын
It's small in the absolute sense of the word - as in the opposite of big. Nobody would refer to their 600 square foot apartment as large or spacious. Don't nitpick people. And with a 20 square meter apartment there is little scope for layout and design possibilities thus there are not often shown.
@loukiab2777
@loukiab2777 3 ай бұрын
@@vmoses1979 Taking into account geographic and economic context is not nitpicking. And the point of the channel is to show people that small spaces can be beautiful and functional. If you have every possibility of layout with your 60 sqm/1 person apartment, then there is no need for smart design, you can do whatever.
@vmoses1979
@vmoses1979 3 ай бұрын
@@loukiab2777 The majority of the spaces on this channel are from 400 square feet to 700 square feet. Have you always commented that these are not small spaces? I doubt it. Given this is an English language channel and there are a lot of viewers from North America - it clearly doesn't only cater to the smallish living spaces of Europeans.

Oh wow! That is one gorgeous apartment! I especially love the walnut handles and the bathroom is truly stunning - simple, sleek, and just looks very clean. I also love what they did with the kitchen and how they made the door to the bedroom appear as if it is part of the cabinetry of the kitchen.

I especially loved the commentary on how the city is noisy and chaotic and the idea to create a space to offer a respite from that. This is so important for people who are HSP's or have sensory processing concerns. The built space really impacts mental health. I also appreciate all of the attention to the transitions within the apartment; the rounded tables, the seamless cabinetry. It all feels very fluid. All of the details were so thoughtfully rendered (handles on the cabinets for example); there is enough texture and visual interest without being overwhelming. I love the skylight in the shower, especially because here in the US most apartment bathrooms/showers are so dark in an unsafe way. The apartment is so warm, inviting and cosy. Brilliant.

Credit to 23year olds working with and mirroring existing elements, refurbishing, repurposing, making and designing items and materials. Great to see. I do agree though, I felt this channel, which I’ve followed for years, originally focussed on genuinely small spaces which are lived in full time, in the context of a worldwide housing crisis. (I understand, one lived in it initially and is now rented out). We can all design beautiful minimal spaces to rent. This is not to discredit the beautiful work of these two designers. Maybe NTS can think about who their followers are.

Same in any European city. They're so young too. Hard to imagine how much debt the 23 y.o. owner had to go into to afford this place and do it up like that. Had to be somewhere in the range of 500k - 800k usd or its equivalent.

@@FromDkWithLove they did say at the beginning that the appartement belonged to yosua's family, and that he was very lucky to be able to restore it and live in it.

@@JeanneMichoko Oh haha, I remember the part about being lucky to restore and live in it- my mind must've skipped the first part. Thanks!

It's a luxury in Paris too - normally a family would live there.

This will be added to my favorites list for sure. Somehow theses two manage to design a space that feels almost like a luxury hotel room but at the same time warm, welcoming and homey...and on a budget! It's absolutely stunning and I haven't a single critique. Bravo!

It is a luxury hotel (airbnb). And while they may have renovated it on a budget, the property itself was probably close to 1m €.
