Designers Carla and Bruno, the talented couple behind Hum Gallery & Studio, completely transformed their standard T-shaped apartment with a unique blend of hotel aesthetics and simplicity, using a mix of second hand furniture and natural materials. Key to the overall design was taking advantage of the apartment’s natural light and views overlooking the courtyard. The biggest change to the floorplan was opening the bathroom up into the bedroom, incorporating a large bathtub, vanity and shower into the space. They also removed the original L-shaped corner kitchen and extended it along the full length of the wall, where it forms part of the open plan living and dining space. The area is centred around a custom made dining table and pendant light, with a unique mirror based vintage sofa tucked into a small cosy nook. With the upgrade of this 1901 apartment, Carla and Bruno have created the perfect canvas to feature all of the objects that they have collected over time.

Stunning choice of colours, materials and items. The handles and travertine countertop in the kitchen are to die for. I would personally never put a tub/shower in the bedroom, but if it works for them that's great. Also, NTS please show us more balconies. You always skip them and they are such a cute part of every apartment.

@@Nyx773But you still must step out of the shower to dry off. What do you do with the damp rug...just leave it sitting there? Also, the wet towel needs somewhere to hang so it dries thoroughly. I wouldn't want a bath towel hanging in my bedroom. Maybe that's just me but it seems that for everyday living, not a photo shoot, it would be difficult to keep the place looking neat and clean.

@@namebrandmason Those have to be some very long and very hot showers/baths to make that a concern. There are 2 windows for a good cross-breeze ventilation. @Jay Carver Yes, bath rugs would get wet, but there won't be "water everywhere". All that said, I would have to be really desperate for housing before I would live in a place that looks like an 1800's NYC tenement. I'm surprised they don't have a large board on top of the tub to use as counter space when not in use.

What a lovely warm apartment! You get the feeling that the things they have are carefully and lovingly selected, and that's why they repeatedly talk about how they were careful to think about how they would be displayed. This kind of more thoughtful approach to consumption is very appealing to me. When I was living alone in my own tiny 30sqm apartment this is the kind of space I'd wished I had.

This is definitely one of the most beautiful apartments you have ever featured on your channel! It's brilliantly designed, the overall execution fits the intention, and the way how particularly the kitchen is designed is simply stunning. The objects on display are carefully chosen and exceptionally well arranged, and because the kitchen is visually part of the living room, it makes all the difference. I'm not totally against a bathroom in the bedroom, especially if only one person is/would be using the place; still, I would probably opt to install some type of room divider for a little more privacy that doesn't conflict with the idea of maximum light and space. Otherwise, it's indeed well done = function goes hand in hand with aesthetics, which is always a very pleasant result.

Depends where you live, I imagine. Amsterdam (and the Netherlands in general) is a very walkable place where it is easy to find all kinds of shops nearby. It’s nicely designed (especially the kitchen/dining area) and full of light, however I’m not sure about the bathtube and the vanity being in the same room as the bedroom. They have to open the windows every time to let the humidity out + wet the carpet on the floor systematically when they get out of the shower or bath. Everything seems so « concentred » in such a small space for two people (+ a dog) that you must feel cramped pretty quickly...

A tub in the bedroom or living area (in Germany it's sometimes in the kitchen in old houses, called a "Frankfurt bath") is an absolute dream for me. ☺️ Bathing is something you do to relax in a comfortable Athmosphere, not next to the toilet brush in a tiled room with no real windows. 😄

I like their design style very much. Love the colors and pieces they chose. There was an elegant casualness to it. For me, though I liked the look of the bathroom, felt very luxurious, I wouldn't be keen on having a tub and sink in the bedroom. I don't find it practical if one person is sleeping and the other needs to get ready to go somewhere. And also, with neighbors that close it would force you to constantly having to close your blinds/curtains anytime you want to shower or take a bath. Creating a water closet was a smart choice, and I loved the bold wall paper.

I’d have changed a few things primarily to suit my taste (I’d eliminate the bath and put more storage there, for instance-I need a spot for the instant pot and stand mixer and… and… when they’re not in use), but that’s just me. And that shower is beautiful. The materials are stunning. Neutral but not at all bland, quite the opposite. Calming, but captivating at the same time.
