THIS is absolute GENIUS. I don't have sturdy door jams in our house, so this idea is nothing short of perfect.

Awesome video. For an extra $7 I added 6 steel rings and a spring link (the 200lb loads work for me) to make it adjustable outside of the house. I put a ring in the locking loop and a ring in every overhand knot in the anchor strap. In my version the anchor strap is separate and attaches to the suspension rig with the spring link. Works great.

I know this comment is 5 years old but if your still interested , could you send me a pic of your finished product? I was thinking of attaching mine to a horizontal bar and considering which way to do it. Thanks!

Great video, I love the simplicity of the solution, well done. After trying the suspension trainer with the locking loop I found that 4 meters was a bit short for me. I am 5' 10" and if I were to do it again I would use 5-6 meters for the handles. The locking loop was hitting the back of my neck when I extended my arms. I made two modifications to fix the issue. I removed the locking loop which added 2-3 feet to the handles which solved the issue with the locking loop hitting my neck. In the second piece of webbing I didn't' double it over I just tied a series a over hand knots as suggested and then tied a bowline in the end of the strap that hangs from the door. I used a small bowline loop with an over hand knot on either side of the handles to create a stop. I thought about using a marlin spike hitch on either side with a wide toggle but that seemed over kill. With this setup you don't have to double over the second strap that connects to the door which can be tight if your door jam doesn't have much of a gap.

I've already made one of the versions you referred to in your video but your solution for creating the safety loop is ingenious in its simplicity. I will be adjusting my trainer to include this feature as ASAP! Thank you for both sharing this design and for taking the time to produce a clear and elegant video demo.

This is awesome, thank you. I'm terrible with knots and still had it done in about 20 minutes. $11.50 in supplies including handles, and I have enough material left over to make 2 more.

Thank you for explaining how to make the locking loop! As a student, I don't have the budget for a TRX set, but I wanted that extra safety. I'll be trying this out over the weekend!

Ever since I found out how to DIY make these straps, I've been playing a game with myself "how cheap can I make this?" First $10 was acceptable, then $8, but now it's down to $4 with your method thanks!

Thank you for your design and instructions. I have been making suspension trainers to give to friends to help them get into better exercise habits, and I have been basically copying the Lifeline Jungle Gym type with foot loops, cam type tie down straps and PVC piping handles. Your design is easy to make, very cost effective and really light to carry. I have made one basic change: I left the metal hook on the hang up support to give me more flexibility in hanging or anchoring the unit. I also generally carry an additional 6-12 ft. tie down strap to give me additional ability to attach and anchor. Thanks again, really a great posting.

Nice job ! Before I saw this video, I put my own together in a similar fashion. Except, I used 9 meters of webbing and truckers cinch-downs for added adjustments. This is especially useful where an ancore mount is more suitable.

Hello Ben, first of all thanks for sharing this method for a " DIY suspension trainer" and it's by far the best and simplest way that I've come across. But I'd be using it with a pull up bar so I don't know how to hang it, can you please show me how to do it?

Super smart and cool. Well done. I do prefer nylon not to rub on nylon (friction = heat = tearing), so I'd use a biner to connect the straps to the anchor point, but other than that, this is pretty rad.

Has anyone had troubled with failure where the one piece of webbing contacts and slides against the other? In the climbing world, this is a big no-no, and when teaching we used to slide webbing back and forth against each other with force and "burn" through in seconds as a demo. I suppose in this setup there's not much motion once you weight the system, but curious if anyone has had trouble? I would put a carabiner or metal ring at that connection to avoid friction.

I even have foot loops that I added from two pieces of webbing that came off of a sleeping bag. That locking loop tie you showed us is fantastic man. It works SO SO good. I'm sore today! Thank you so much.

If you have a limb or bar you want to use, wrap it around and put the handles through the loops on the extender/door strap. Adjust the length the same as if on a door, by using different loops between the knots.

Ridiculous over-complication. Leave the hooks attached, they come in very useful. Having two separate straps allows you to space them apart on certain exercises, which increases difficulty and better targets the muscles (pushups for example). It has the added benefit of not needing to tie the straps together when doing one arm movements.

by which factor will the different knots weaken the rope strength? This system may be dangerous if weak rope is used in combination with knots. Some knots can reduce ripe strength by as much as 80%.
