This seems like a great monitor, but it being compared to the GIGABYTE M27Q-X at every turn makes me really happy that I picked that one up last year when you recommended it. @@magyararon6918 You say "still not great" but it's surely got to be a lot more cost effective than OLED, which is ridiculously expensive in monitor formats. And VA has its own problems with ghosting unless you get one of Samsung's super tuned VA monitors (also ridiculously expensive). Just asking for a middle ground here, not a unicorn lol.

Not only does the MSI perform well, but if the M27Q X is it's closest competitor, the 100 USD price difference easily justifies any negligible difference, especially when the MSI seems to equal or exceed the performance of the M27Q X. Thank you for bringing this to us, this one is definitely on my radar, may even be suitable as a mixed usage monitor.

$150 more for an Odyssey G7 a year and a half ago, given I haven't had nearly as many issues with QC as other users with that monitor makes me not regret the purchase at all. It's good to see budget monitors in the higher-end side of displays, but I wouldn't trade the incredibly-good contrast or variable overdrive of my G7 for anything but an OLED at this point. And I'm not touching OLED until we can ensure burn-in becomes a non-issue.

In my country both 27 inch and 32 inch odyssey G7 are available. my initial choice was the samsung neo G8 4k 240hz but this model isn't available till now so I decided to buy the odyssey g7 1440p 240hz variant. So how's this monitor overall? QC? What's your monitor size?

@IndyMiraaga
@IndyMiraaga Жыл бұрын
@@tasilama4707 I went with the 27" one because it was $50 USD cheaper at the time, and I sit fairly close to my desk. Tim said the 1000R curvature was too much for a monitor of that size, I've had no issues with it though I do have issues perceiving depth properly in certain scenarios (aiming and shooting actual firearms in particular) so your mileage may vary. The QC wasn't too bad, the monitor has a very bright and annoying power LED that has no option to be turned off completely unless you fully power off the monitor. In larger rooms it may be a non-issue but I'm fairly light sensitive when I sleep, and I can even faintly hear the whining it makes in the standby light mode. The only other big issue I had was with the automatic input switching, which simply has never worked regardless of firmware version. The OSD can also take a while to show up, but the times were massively improved in a semi-recent firmware update so make sure your firmware is up-to-date when your monitor arrives. The monitor does have some backlight glow, yours may be better or worse but it's not very noticeable unless the screen is showing pitch black in a fairly dark room in my experience. Other than that it's a very good monitor for midrange/high-end gaming, the image quality is excellent and the refresh rates and response times are very good as well. If you got it for under $500 USD you got a pretty good deal, even with it being a few years old it holds up excellently. HDR performance is a little iffy, the 8 local dimming zones are fairly useless but the color space is very good and contrast is excellent.
@juanblanco7898
@juanblanco7898 Жыл бұрын
Manageable accuracy and contrast ratio have got me interested, but that minimum brightness is ridiculous... It can't even display at reference 100 nits, what the hell? And it's definitely too bright for even a remotely dim surround lighting. Well, YMMV, but A LOT of people are used to unreasonably high brightness so that won't be a deal-breaker for them, but...

What is up with these Overdrive settings from MSI?! The MAG274QRF-QD had much better overdrive modes and their newest models don't have ideal overdrive modes for some reason....Another point is that I wouldn't get this since the entire point of getting a 240Hz monitor is for faster response which this monitor doesn't do well since it can't keep up with the 240Hz Refresh Rate. So you may as well get a 144Hz-180Hz Monitor instead. I don't agree with your take on this in particular for "I wouldn't buy a 1440p 240Hz Monitor that are priced much higher" because there are 144Hz-180Hz Monitors that perform better than this monitor does and what makes those options not attractive? Because of price? Well you get what you pay for here. Because they actually have the response times to keep up with the 240Hz Refresh Rate

I've just scrapped my 1440p monitor by being over enthusiastic when cleaning it, so now I have a vertical line of pixels that doesn't work, so I'm back on my old 1920 by 1200 pixel monitor. And I'm not all that inconvenienced by that. Sure the screen area is more restrictive, but with the extra 120 pixels vertically compared to a standard 1080p monitor the important vertical screen space isn't as restricted as I feared. Yes 120 vertical pixels do make a difference! Right now I feel I won't "need" a new monitor before I can get a decently priced 1440p monitor with a good single overdrive setting experience from 240 Hz to 60 Hz for variable framerate gaming. And by then I'll probably have a faster computer and graphics solution capable of keeping the framerates reasonably high. If it has decent HDR it's a bonus but not something I now feel would be a must have. As for 4K I can't see a need for it, not for me personally. On as 27" display I can't see the individual pixels at 1440p. So for 4K to make sense it would have to be a lot larger. And it would make the demand on the graphics card a lot higher. If anything I'd like to see a 16:10 version in the 1440p class, say 2560 x 1600 pixels. giving 260 extra vertical pixels. I know it's not going to happen, but I can dream can't I?

The gigabyte M27Q is back in stock in the US but is now $449, thus making me question the value of that compared to this MSI model. I think I'll try this one out based on your review and save the 70 bucks, worst case I can send it back.

I need 3 new monitors for a triple monitor setup. Should be 27 or 28 inches and 4k. Money is not an issue. Should i get 3x Gigabyte M28U? Or since this monitor is 2 years old should rather wait for something else to release this year? The 2022 LG models are no longer available. OLED is not available in 4K and seems to suck when doing mixed stuff... e.g. web browsing, text based work. I only play games 10% of the time. So.... what would you recommend? I would love to get good black levels and high contrast. So paying a bit more for something with FALD would be ok but it seems that there is barely anything decent out there at the moment.

user tunable overdrive with VRR ON would make this display TOO GOOD (which is not good for the make), the community would find out which settings allow for 90%+ refresh rate compliance with really low cumulative deviation and really low overshoot across the ENTIRE VRR range (single overdrive experience) which would make 1440p240 displays priced higher (including from MSI) absolutely worthless.
@C0BEX

For 240Hz, this panel is just too slow, nothing you can fine tune by more granular OD. At 80% compliance it already has too much overshoot.

I bought a gigabyte M27Q 170hz 1440p monitor a while back on your recommendation and it's been excellent. Now I want this MSI monitor that you're reviewing in this video because it's basically the same thing but it does 240hz. I'll stick with the M27Q though because 170hz is really enough for me plus it doesn't have ghosting at any refresh rate with the default overdrive setting which is perfect for me, and it looks very smooth in gameplay. But if I were buying a monitor now I'd get this MSI.

No, in Tim's video on the M27Q. Its actually the better choice since with the default overdrive mode, it performs much better at the max refresh rate and has very little overshoot and has a single overdrive mode experience since it performs the same at every refresh rate with the ideal overdrive mode
