When I read about the engine on several articles on Friday I have been looking on KZbin for any channel that has covered anything about it until today when I got a notification of your uploaded video. It's good to know that future V8 models are going up to 800+ hp, because 421hp from a 4 pot brings the 45 models too close to the base model V8s.

BOB BOB true but non hybrid versions may go up to 700hp in the mean time. And in the long run, Hybrid models will most likely be the only versions available (as we transition to electric).

Honestly tho why would you need so much horsepower in a daily car? It's not like you're a racer or anything. 400hp is still the sweet spot for me personally.

Whiteless Eyes I’m not a racer, but I do actually drive a lot on track and I enjoy the power a lot on the straights. As for daily usage, I’m used to driving 500+ hp cars, so I can’t really go back.

Beautiful engine and great insightful video. For me its not the power that's eye opening as small capacity turbo engines have been making big power for decades I.e the 1980s F1 BMW 1.5lt four with 1200bhp or similar What's really spectacular for me is the engineering required to make this new engine both compliant and reliable.

Very excited for upcoming A and CLA45s, if the rumour mill is to be believed then it will smoke the previous one - and the A35 too - and take the crown of most power per litre of a production engine. Cannot wait till they roll this out! It's actually, 310 KW, 421 PS, 416 BHP. However depending on dyno types and individual vehicles most will probably produce circa 425 bhp stock.

I'm late to this party, but tell me, does this high power engine run any leaner for having such tremendous engine cooling? Most turbo 4s seem to never reach their economic rating due to needing to run rich (to inhibit detonation while under high boost). Great engine tech. Think it will be reliable?

It IS the most powerfull "series built" 2 litre 4pot to date..... and yeah, we all know about that one crazy lancer.... but that is in fact a huge turbo tuned car.... which btw was also veeeeery laggy.... no point in comparing that to this engeneering marvel!!

After the end of the 65 series of AMG, the V12 will live a last time on the next generation Maybach S-class but unlike the V12, I hope that we'll see a new generation of the V8 based on this new 4 cylinder. A new M139-based V8 could easily get +700 PS before hybridization for a maximum combined power from 900 to 1000 PS.

You know: No matter how good the engine gets: What Mercedes really needs for the A45: is a better / Less laggy Gearbox! Am i right, or am i very correct... ?? Is not even as good as the Golf GTI/ Golf R's DSG... For much lower price as well! 👍

@3DFX Totally agree, from first-hand experience. VW's DSG is the benchmark. I went from VW 2.0t DSG to M-B B250. Engine dynamics is worse than the 2.0t VW and the 7sp M-B DSG is way jerkier, slower and programming to drop into 7th gear as low as 45kph just sucks. Regardless of the so-called S-mode.

True, although aftermarket tuning companies like Brabus were able to get it up to crazy power figures with simple ECU remaps, which shows that it really was capable of 500+ hp, they just capped it for reasons such as reliability, etc....
