Well this has pretty much alienated anyone 35+. I'm not a technophobe by any means whatsoever but by touch-screening/digitising EVERYTHING, and increasing touch times to do simple things is just asking for trouble. I also don't want to have to 'talk to' my car to get it to do stuff either... Clearly they went for design/gimmick over practicality and functionality which is what VW has always been renowned for. VW customer is not a Tesla customer. Ah well, proof will be in the sales.

@Jerry Rawlings why wouldn't you spend 25k on a mainstream hatchback? Not sure you understand how many options you lose if you move up in the range. An A-class for the same price has significantly less kit for example. My opinion is that in any given budget you should buy a mid or higher equipped car for it to make sense (unless your budget is very low and you just can't afford a mid equipped car). I see people with last-gen A4s with halogen headlights (Xenon has been standard for like 7 years) because they buy the absolute minimum-spec model that you can only buy on a company. It's an insanely poor value proposition. Could have gotten a higher-spec Passat instead, they're virtually the same car, but I guess you don't look rich in a Passat. I mean you don't look rich in an A4 either, but don't tell them that cuz you're wasting your time.

It appears we're at the point where the car is as good as it can be so manufacturers are just stuffing them with toys. I'm completely in to using tech for improving things. This seems to be a case of complication for the sake of marketing . No thanks.

Except you totally forget about EVs. But since you forgot about it I bet you think EVs are a step back. Oh and how about automatic steering and avoidance? Or how about IA controlled differential axels? And there is clearly more improvements, but hey I don't blame your ignorance. Its easy to complain and hard to be positive.
@grayfool3 жыл бұрын
@@snyggmikael I'm not complaining. Do these things actually make the car better to drive? To me they just add complication for no real gain in the actual function of the car. In fact, it could be agued that a lot of these so called safety systems take away the responsibility of the driver. It also is true that a lot of modern cars are written off because of the cost to repair these systems. I have no issue with EV's. We need to make actual progress not just adding toys for the marketing department to have added copy for the brochure. EV's are the way forward. It will suit people who loves a relaxing drive and with the driver aids it compliments this concept much more. The Car 2X though. While the new golf can talk to other golfs and possibly newer cars with this tech in the near future. I think there should be some sort of add on device to add to other older cars so as the system works better.

It’s different, it’s a change. For once the Golf has a nice looking interior, and doesn’t just look like everything else on the road. It’s got advanced technologies, and it isn’t just a safe design to keep the sales ticking over. Yeah, it divides opinion, and it’s good too see that - not everyone likes it, but that’s why everyone drives DIFFERENT cars, because no one has the same taste.

Cars historically: push a button to do the thing Cars in the past few years: touch screen with no tactile feedback so you have to take your eyes off the road or flail wildly! Shout hysterically at your dashboard to try and engage the voice recognition!

"What's wrong with a knob" 😂 anyway, doesn't matter what car he's reviewing, I'm interested in anything Rory talks about👍 "Can we please just have a knob?!"😂

Interesting review 👍. The touchscreen climate controls etc are putting me off. But is it just a case of getting used to it? The max fan button next to the auto lights buttons could be a life saver 🤔. Fan strength, heat , volume and skip are really all I need physical buttons for if I can get used to the unusual slider controls it’s a possible new car for me. I’ll need to go to the dealership, any input from owners on here would be good 😊 I’m Scottish so voice recognition can sometimes be difficult .

The dude actually said "whats wrong with a knob?" LOL.

Touchscreen controls only work properly in starships, the Enterprise can have touch panel LCARS panels controlling critical systems because they’re not stuck in intergalactic traffic, and have all three axes of movement available It’s very difficult to get into an “accident” in intergalactic space...

And that's why I opted out of buying MK 8. If they improve and bring some physical buttons back on mk8.5 or mk9 (not sure what's going to be next) it's going to be tempting, but I got the digital dash and physical in my MK 7.5 golf for now.

While a knob would be ideal, you still have steering wheel controls that allow you to control volume, change songs etc. Amazing how many of you forgot.

Vw when will you get it heating control setting and a volume knob is needed,
@Chris-yc3mm9 ай бұрын
Bin voice assistant, add heating and volume back as physical buttons, bring back manual handbrake and allow me to get smaller wheels on a higher spec and a spare tyre should be mandatory

some things, like the volume/temperature controls, should have been traditional knobs.

@forza223bowe54 жыл бұрын
MK7 interior isn’t dated at all, they are still brand new 2020, MK7 golfs still being made.

Prefer the tactile feel of knobs and dials.....and they are less distracting from driving.
@Diminish124 жыл бұрын
There's gonna be alot of accident with touch screen cause you will always look at the heat numbers and volume etc, everything on the menu. Where as analog it was just a switch. You would turn on heat and AC without looking, same with radio. While driving it should be simplified to keep drivers eyes on the road and not distracted by digitized New dash.
