I have over 55 years of motorcycling behind me. As far as Italian bikes, I have owned a ducati 860, moto morini 500 camel, laverda 3cl 1000, cagiva 650, and currently have a 1989 Moto Guzzi Mille GT 1000 and a 2013 Moto Guzzi Stone 750. Have owned several German bikes to include BMW and Zundaps. Grew up with British bikes-meaning Triumph and BSA. Have never been interested in Harley. Owned several Suzuki's to include 2-stroke models and the Wankel rotary 500. The Moto Guzzis have been my favorite above all the rest. Quirky, reliable, tractor-like in that the Japanese "refinement" is not there. But if you love just being connected to machinery and sound, then Moto Guzzi!- By the way, because it is shaft driven and a new bike it takes some miles to break in the transmission as well as for the brakes to seat well--be patient--mike

Agree completely. I’m also in my 70s, healthy and just retiring now, with well over 50 years of riding. Currently I’ve got a 2017 California 1400 touring and it’s weirdly wonderful. I’ll be picking up a V7 special this summer but think I’ll just keep the 1400. Wonderful motorcycles. I rode BMWs for 30 years and they have totally lost me. There are very few bikes out right now that appeals Guzzi is where my head is at now for sure.

I have the v7 and the v85tt. Moto Guzzi bikes are outstanding machines and very fun to ride. It has as much character as my Harleys. And at a much lower price. Finding dealers can be difficult but well worth driving a couple hours if necessary.

Thank you, just downsized from a goldwing, dont tour any longer, tired of the weight, at 65 yrs old it was time, thought of going adventure bike but after driving them I thought they were to high ( I'm short!) And terrible center of gravity, and I'm not taking a 500 lb. Bike off road in the dirt or mud for that matter. Guzzi fits perfect, added hepco becker hard luggage and guzzi windshield, I still can ride 250 or better in a day without discomfort, tired for sure but not miserable, no it's no goldwing or rr by any means, but it's a blast to ride, great looks, great light handling, nimble , great bike for short people!!!

Thanks for the video. The V7 special is almost identical to the 1976 850 T3, the model prior to the T3 California. My mom's partner had that bike and it was a truly beautiful machine. The V7 special is the bike I would buy when my mad max KTM finally runs out.

Greetings from England & thanks for a very informative video - glad you beat that mother of a storm home too! A couple of points other viewers might find interesting - the headlight on the Special is NOT LED, as incorrectly quoted on many websites. Only the Stone gets this tech, to go with its digital display. Also, despite the new V7 being heavily based on the V85TT, which just got updated to tubeless tyres after numerous customer requests, the Special still gets tubed tyres - must be Guzzi's marketing asleep on the job! Finally, Mistral are making new pipes for both the V7s and they sound amazing. Keep up the great work! 👍

@@dreamreaver23 Looking forward to that! How do you rate the brakes? Whilst it's not a sporty bike, the new V7 is quite heavy & some testers here hv criticised the front brake as being a bit wooden, suggesting that twin discs might be better.

@@mrsilbo6499 while I would not have been upset with twin front brakes. The brakes do a really nice job. I am still able to stop very quickly. The crazy thing is I want to know what these people are comparing the bike to. At 490 pounds, this bike is pretty damn light. And maybe that's me. I'm coming from a nearly 570 pound cruiser, and my buddies bikes are 600 and 650 pounds. At 490, this bike feels great, and the braking feels spot on. Maybe it was something else with them. Dunno

I love the shaft drive system rather than chain, as always you maintain the shaft by changing the oil the same time you change the engine oil and it will last forever. Peace.

Great review. I’m currently researching this as a possible upgrade in the future so appreciate the attention to detail. I must say I’m surprised by the lack of petrol gauge otherwise love it. Currently have a Royal Enfield Classic 350, which is a great bike but just lacks a bit of power for highway and longer rides. Everyone who goes Guzzi seems to keep them for the long term.

Very nice video, well done. I'm partial to the Special myself although tube type wheels on a bike without a center stand are a issue at best. Guzzi knows how to do tubeless wire spoke wheels, I.E. the V85TT. IMO, If Guzzi wants to be more than a boutique brand in the US, they need to drastically expand their dealership network.

Sadly, as with most bike’s these days, centre stands are an optional extra but, in the UK at least, they are not overly expensive. The one positive is that with a Guzzi you don’t have to worry about chain adjustment.

I have v7 Classic and love riding it as a daily commuter in the city, weekend fun in the mountain backroads, etc. the Lafranconi mufflers make it sound like a built small block Chevy. Not the fastest or most powerful, but boy it sure turns a lot of heads (strangely enough because the bike isn’t worth very much at all). Only other bike I’ve ever had that fit as much attention was a 2014 royal Enfield continental gt 535. Completely stock and I couldn’t even stop at the gas station without being approached nonstop about the bike. Guzzi sure knows how to make a bike that looks sexy and Classic while retaining a fantastic riding character to it. You can certainly feel the racing heritage of Moto Guzzi when you ride their bikes. The balance, the nimbleness, etc is incredible

If your considering a Moto Guzzi ....do it. They have something about them that I'm sure you'll love. Very few people buy them and then move away from the brand. Most get crazy for them and fill up their garage with more. Many times people who have been riding for a long time. Just because your neighbor or friend hasn't heard of them means little. The company just turned 100. Love them to bits and if I'm without one I'll be without a bike.

I love the Moto Guzzi brand, although I'vs never owned one. If I could I buy a blue V7Special today, but my wife always rides with me and she hasn't been able to walk without a walker for the last 19 months due to her cancer treatments has destroyed the blood flow to her hips. She had a total hip replacement last year but hasn't recovered very well. She has battled cancer eight times, had 12 surgeries in ten years, maxed out on Chemo, radiation and cyber knife treatmens and is currently on immonotherapy and will be every 28 days for the rest of her life. I tell you all this to let you know that she can no longer climb on a two wheeled mototcycle, so we had to go to a trike. Before the trike we rode over 300,000 miles in twenty years on two wheeled motocycles. She still likes to ride and we try to every nice day we get, but our rides are shorter these days because she can't get off and walk out the vibes. (her walker is back home in the garage) The onlu thing that seems strange to me about the V7 850 is the fuel mileage. I've owned much larger bikes, even Harleys that get 47 mpg. I would think a 850 would get better fuel mileage. I owned a Honda VLX (600cc) that got near 70 mpg. Thanks for the video and all the info on the functions of the gauges.

That bike is so beautiful in blue with the chrome. Love the tach, wish my Roamer had one. Guzzi transmissions have been described as “agricultural” in sound and feel, and that fits. However, I have gotten many smooth quiet shifts after having put on miles and gotten the knack. Nice video.

I got away from bikes for many years, but at age 64 decided to tour some of the many scenic and historical sites here in West Virginia. We are blessed with many twisty, mountainous roads. I am sure that the V7 Special will perform very well. BTW, I knew a guy that rode a V7 in the late 1960's.

A screen & bags is all that's needed to be a LST machine. It's already got range, good seat, final drive, 6 speed gearbox. Bonus points for the 4 pot Brembo x 320mm, good balance of both highway & low speed stability, / maneuverability & a huge headlight beam on the Stone version / LED one.

Just got my first Guzzi last week, V7 850 as well. I noticed you’re riding it mainly in the 3000-4000 rpm range. I’ve never had a tach on a bike, so it’s just something I’ve never been aware of until now, but I’m feeling my bike wants to get in a higher gear around 3000-3500 rpms. Would you recommend and hold on until I’m over 4000 with your experience with Guzzis? I’m just trying to feel it out. Already have about 200 miles on her, so I’m hyper aware during this break-in period of course.

i'm still in break in period as well, and while i'm not trying to go to extremes on the bike, i don't follow standard break in guidelines on new bikes. it's a bit controversial in a lot of circles. but there have been a lot of different tests that show that there is no difference to the pistons, valves, rings, or piston walls whenever you go through the break in period whether you go by the letter of the manufacturers break in guidelines, or whether you bring it to a track day and red line it. Once again, i am not being a sadist to the bike. lol. but i am riding it like I would any other bike. That being said, and also, i'm no expert, ride where you feel comfortable on the bike. if you want to keep it around 2800 to 3000 rpms, then your good there. i keep it around the 3k-4k rpms because of where i ride, I live in Denver and in most places during the day, there is a lot of road traffic. The torque curve on the V7 850 tops out at 53.84 ft lb of torque at 5000 rpms, and about 80% of that is available at 3000 rpms. because a lot of the time i want to have that power available in an instant, if i need to get out of a bad spot, i keep my rpms right around 3k to 4k, unless i am on a less populated route where i can relax a little bit. again i'm no expert, that is just more of where i feel comfortable. also something to keep in mine, while the red line that is marked on the tach is marked at 6500 rpms, I believe i have read somewhere that the rev limiter doesn't actually hit until 7200 rpms. Once i complete my break in I will nest this further. I'm sorry that this became a bit long for the reply, maybe i will do a video to go further into my thoughts about it all. @@dreamreaver23 Yea, I was just reading that the actual rev limiter is set at 7200 rpm. I see what you’re saying though. I’ve put about 200 miles on mine the last week and have purposely avoided high traffic areas, so that low 3,000 range has felt nice for me. The bike feels like it wants to really take off in 3rd and 4th gear especially, so resisting that urge to gun it has taken some discipline haha. I actually have a V7 Stone Centennario. Any expanding on the uniqueness of the Guzzi 850 in the V7 would be awesome to see for sure. Thanks for all the great information!

That special will age much better than the stone. Chrome, gloss paint and dual clocks will always look good where matt finish and digital displays will probably go out of fashion and look outdated

That's a pretty bike. I had a 2017 V7iii Special for a while, but I sold it last year because I had to sell one of my bikes...didn't have space for it. I liked the classic looks of the spoked wheels and the analog gauges. I'm not a fan of new bikes that use an iPhone-type screen for gauges, especially when they have retro styling elsewhere on the bike.

I had a test ride on a V7 in 2013. I was interested in the bike because I like the styling, I like the big tank, and I like the shaft drive. I thought it would make a good travelling bike. The engine revs so slowly, it was not a thrilling ride. It didn’t help that the dealer said they had trouble getting one cylinder going

The reason why i was going slow in the part where i am racing the storm is because i was riding sideways, the wind is coming really hard from the north (my right side) at 45 - 50mph gusts and most of the time i am riding at a 10 - 20 degree angle. that and the road is a no passing area by a school, not trying to get a ticket on my new bike already. lol

Hey buddy, sorry for the delay in the response, the ight that would flicker on is the rev limiter light, at the time whenn i recorded th is vid the rev liimiter was still set at default, which was 4500 rpms i believe. going off of memory here. hope that helps

Beautiful. I think it needs about a 1-2" bar riser, some fork gaiters, and fuel gauge. Odd they tell you everything there is to know about fuel except how much is in the tank! I got to demo a V85tt and loved it. It is a bit too tall for me, but the ergonomics and the touring windscreen were perfect. And with the bags, it's more practical. Not as head turning as this one though.

lol, i have thought about a bar riser, that might be something in the future, I have also looked at fork gaiters, or for socks, just to protect them from dust. The fuel gauge was really a surprise for me. They show me everything else, why not the fuel level, or at least the fuel range left. Ride safe!

@@dreamreaver23 The fork gaiters prevent stone chips. Once the forks get nicked, they'll leak. New seal won't fix it. Only a new fork. They put the gaiters on the matt finished V7 models. The silver forks look nicer, but the gaiters are cheap insurance.

Thnx for the review. Beautifull bike! The reason why I would not choose the special is not because I dont find it Beautifull but because of a lot of chrome and spoke wheels. I ride the whole year also below zero temperatures when its safe. And blacked out is better to maintain and to protect from rust (salt) then chrome. But when I would live in a country with 365 days of sun I would go for the same one as yours.

Nice job on the video. I really enjoyed it and just subscribed. This exact bike is on my short list. 2 months away and counting. Originally I was looking at the V9 Bobber Sport, but then MG released this beauty. I just hope that the aftermarket catches up quickly for parts & accessories. I would have to add a fly screen and saddlebags. Maybe some grip puppies. Two questions if I may. Does the seat absorb water? I know that sometimes the leather is treated, but the seams can still leak. Have you ridden with a passenger yet? If so, what's their opinion on comfort? My wife loves to ride with me. I agree about the aftermarket, i actually talk about the fly screen in a video that is rendering and should be up in a couple of hours. i am looking to forward to some saddle bags, and the mistral exhaust, and love the grip puppies. for your questions: I have not gotten the seat wet yet, so i don't know if it absorbs water, sorry. and i have not ridden with a passenger yet, my wife usually rides her 2019 Rebel 500 when we go ride. But i just told her that when it stops raining that we need to test that. So i will let you know how that goes in a few days, once the weather system gets through Denver.

@@dreamreaver23 Thanks for the replies. The 2 month countdown is when I will have the funds available to purchase the bike. Maybe sooner, but 2 months for sure. We are coming off of a Harley Road Glide which we sold a few years back. When we lived in Colorado (Thornton) it was an amazing bike to have, but since getting transferred back to northern Virginia, not so much. Living in the city and commuting in horrible traffic is not what that bike is suited for. Even in the HOV lanes, which often are not much better than the regular lanes, it's hot and tiresome. It could certainly do it, but it wasn't enjoyable for me. We decided to downsize to something that was more suited to our current riding environment so the search began. It's great that your wife rides as well. I would love to get my wife her own bike, but for now she is happy being a passenger and that's just fine with me. Mistral exhaust would be a great swap. Still researching that. Not sure if any remapping of the ECU would be required. Some say that it isn't and some say that it is, so who knows. Can't wait to watch your next video. Ride safe.

I have a v9 roamer and just completed a 6500klm trip. the stock seat (2017 model) is amazing, never felt uncomfortable and we were doing some 600klm days. the bike didn't miss a beat and was taken on a mix of tar and dirt roads. I'd def recommend it

Congrats on your new MG, I just got my '21 matte black stone last week as well! Unfortunately, mine and the only other one the dealer received ( a Centenarian) were both without owners manuals. The dealer contacted Piaggio in New York and they are going to send them. I tried to download the PDF manual on the MG site but it says it is not available. I am concerned about a symbol in the E- cluster that flashes. an ! point within a triangle within a circle . you may not have that on yours. I just want to make sure its not some type of engine warning. Hard to figure out without the manual. Have not yet found a good review like yours for the stone E- cluster yet. Thanks for responding.

so that should be your MGCT system, it will flash along with the ABS symbol when you first start the bike, and will remain on until it calibrates. that will usually happen with 50 ft of forward acceleration. the only other time it will flash is when it is activating during operation. if you ride on sand or gravel and you feel the engine sputter, that is the MGCT, or traction control, adjusting the engine so that you maintain traction. I hope that this info helps. and if you have any questions that i might be able to help with, just hit me up.

unfortunately, my knowledge is really limited on previous generations of the V7. I don't know anyone in the Denver area who has one to do a comparison to. Last year i was going to buy a V7III but i decided to wait to see if they doing anything special for their 100 year anniversary. glad i did.

I have ridden both for long periods. The v7 iii is a great bike but the new v7 has a much better engine, suspension, tyres and seat, and a lighter clutch.

I currently ride a 2015 Yamaha fj-09 but would like to trade for the Moto Guzzi V7 special this year. I had a GS1200 and miss the deep sound and torquey power it had. The only negative (besides the expensive maint. costs) was the the GS is big and heavy. The Yamaha ifj-09 is OK. It’s light, flickable, powerful and fits me well but after a year of ownership the sound is starting to nag me. Love the sound of the V7. Probably not as fast as the Yamaha but I rarely get on it anymore. My one question that no one seems to answer is how does the steering feel in the turns? I hope neutral like the GS and fj-09. I test rode a Honda NC750 I was considering but the steering was wonky. I forget if it wanted to tip in or out but it was a deal breaker for me. Thanks!

there is a fuel light that pops on about 30 miles before the reserve tank, and then you have about 50 miles of reserver fuel after that, so you should roughtly have anywhere between 60-80 miles once the fuel light pops on. and you can see your average fuel, but no "Estimated Fuel Range" unfortunately. Hope this information helps.

Yes and yes, i have a windscreen on it now, and have looked at a lot of different bag setups, there are some great ones out there, but they are a bit pricey for my wallet. but with the large tank, this bike would be a really great touring bike

Cornering clearance is really good, haven't ran into any issues. I've ridden a V7 II and III in the past on test rides and they feel similar to me to the beat of my memory. However, the new model seems a lot more locked in in the corners. It's hard to explain the difference on words.

I wouild say it is definitely worth a test ride to be absolutely sure, if your 6'2" but 80% legs it might be different. my buddy josh is 6'2" or 6'3" and he sat on it and found it comfy, but i would definitely test it out for your build first. no, you don't get any heat on your legs when riding. also i will say that the bike actually does a really great job of breaking through the wind at hwy speeds, Thanks for the questions barrie

absolutely, i actually softened mine a bit, i am 5'9"/5'10" and have ranged from 215 to 200 over the last year. lol, covid, amiright? my buddy is 6'2" and about 245, and he has ridden it as well, and said it was a really comfortable ride. As always, Definitely test ride and make sure your comfortable on the bike, but the suspension has 8 adjustments of preload that you can work with. so you should be able to find the sweet spot for you.
