Took my brand new Battle II 5000 for a spin yesterday for the very first time and I hooked a 20lb yellowtail using a Ugly Stik X2 (medium hard) rod kzbin.infoUgkxM68VkfsQhHaabDce1IwOCXuvumcpbZ_k . This combo was recommended on some website and it did not disappoint me. The reel is smooth, the drag click is pretty cool cause i think it adds to the excitement of fighting the fish, personally the drag is my favorite part. I use braid and 300 yards will fill the entire spool. This combo is my main setup from now on although I have to disclose I am new to fishing.

I don't think people realise how good this reel is for the money, it is literally the Stradic FL with the Vanfords frame! Slightly different handle and a couple less bearings is all thats different, this is a sub $100 reel that has the EXACT main gear/idler gears/oscillating block/main shaft/clutch and more as the Twinpower FD and 19 Vanquish! The Stradic FL and Vanford were insane because they were the first reels under twinpower to actually get high end internals and a platform shared with the top end Japanese shimanos, and now they've even added the Ultegra to that list? Main difference is bearing count and the body material as the Stradic is the all metal aluminium body and Ultegra has the Ci4+ body.

I'm definitely going to own at least one of these reels. Can't wait to see and feel the changes in this reel, specifically the micro module gearing. The impact that that made on the new stradic FL is unbelievable. To pack that much technology into $150 reel is pretty exciting news for the recreational angler.

Absolutely. Micromodule 2 and Silent Drive are a very noticeable pairing. The MGL rotor in Vanford and Exsence is the only other feature that you notice as soon as you turn the handle

The new Stradic has a lot of advantages over the Ultegra. Infinity Drive, Duracross GmDrag washers, Anti Twist Fin, Infinity Cross Gear, more bearings and I believe X Protext just to name a few things.

can this reel (c5000xghg) been used in medium shore jigging with jigs around 60-70gr because i'm kind of scary since it has the spinning title on but overall specs looks like it will have no problem at all. Anyway value for money also since it is a shimano product we all know that will last

Hey, great video. Thank you. Today I got Ultegra C3000HG (2021 version). Is it normal for this reel that I feel micro bump somewhere in the reels rotation mechanics at the rate every 2nd time it travels a circle? Meaning, that when I spin the handle so fast that it starts to make a couple circles on its own, I feel little bumps in my other hand that is holding the reel while the it is spinning. Or is that a reels defect and I should replace it with another Ultegra reel? Hope for your reply, cheers.

Hi Rudolfs, typically I do not notice bumps when spinning the reel but it's such a subjective thing. If you are uncomfortable with the performance I would bring it in to your local retailer and maybe even compare it to another Ultegra in the box as the "micro bump" could be anything really.

Many thanks for your excellent review! One question if you don’t mind. I’m divided between buying the 4000 or the 5000 model. The only sticking point is the drag system. You mention that he x carbon drag system is only included in the 5000 models. If that’s the case, then i may decide to go to that model. I have been looking for spect on the web and nothing mentioned, i’m afraid. I’d prefer the 4000 model but rather have the better drag system. Thanks for your time! Love your reviews :)

They are actually the same size reels, the only difference is that the 5000 has a deeper cut spool and will hold about 30 extra yards of 10 lb test. That and I believe the handles are slightly different as usually the 5000 has a bigger paddle. My advice is if you are fishing hard running fish like inshore, nearshore stuff or large freshwater species than get the 5000 because of the cross carbon drag. If you need a smoother drag go with the 4000 because of the felt washers.

Thanks for this review, I've been tossing around several reel ideas in this price and weight range. I just ordered a 2500shg for a custom ML rod I have for bass and walleye fishing. According to my research, it holds about 150 yds of 10 lbs braid, should be more then enough. Great video.

Silent drive and Micro Module 2 gear make a big difference over the old Ultegra. You won't be disappointed with one that's for sure! But they do weigh more than the Vanford of the same size and don't have the MGL Rotor.

Not sure if they are interchangeable. I would confirm with a Shimano reel service centre. It’s not often that sequential generations share the same components in every area.

@@alexis_avb if you're fishing lighter finesse lines I would go with the 4000 for the felt drag washers. If you are fishing heavier stuff and want stopping power, the 5000 has the cross carbon drag washers. Both should have ample line capacity. I know Carp can run but not sure if you're using light weight leaders or not
