I never had a black bike. I know they look "cool" and "stealthy" and "mysterious", but honestly I want to feel happy when I look and ride my bikes, and having color on the bike really helps set the "mood".

I promise you’ll like the “mood” on a blacked out machine. I used to ride Hondas and Kawa but once a started buying black bikes , an HD, one Victory and a blacked out R1 I was hooked on black Get to feeling super racy and fierce every time I throw a leg over a blacked out ride.

Noooo ! An all red Speed Twin R for me. Loose the black stripe down the middle of the tank, and add gold annodised front forks. Gold forks add at least 5 MPH to a top speed I'll never do !

I think the R looks slicker between the two, but I wish its tank was purely matte black. I think the gloss stripe right where you're staring at the tank just doesn't look quite in line with the rest of the bike. Still, quite handsome.

Now I have to take my 2020 3r apart to paint it! lol Triumph forgot to black out the front brake calipers! That's on my to do list when brake and tire maintenance comes up!

I think Triumph intentionally left part of the front brake caliper (where it says "Brembo") assy unblacked in order to have it match the color of the disc. If you black the entire caliper you interupt the flow of color in that area. Left unblacked you have the disc brake and the part of the caliper that visually lines up with it being the same color. It's a color complimenting shape thing. In this case I think Triumph made a good choice. Of course, if you want the entire caliper black, that is an easy customer modification. I'd like to see it done both ways. If I blacked out the entire caliper out I would not put the Brembo lettering back on.

Where I live in Australia, black is just not the way to go. It gets so hot in the sun That it will burn you, and just generally radiates excessive heat. Not what you want in a warm/hot climate. . The standard GT models, as you will know, are available in black or Silver with red/black stripes. The black colour appears to be less popular here as Triumph has recently made the Silver colour $1,000.00 more expensive.

They look good! I'd get the R , but put the gt forwards on it. I think triumph would have sold more if they had put a longer, substantial subframe and pillion seat on the GT variant though. I've read about quite a few people saying they'd not buy one purely because of a lack of luggage and pillion accommodation....

It could do with better luggage options and a bit of a bigger fuel tank. At least 1 UK gallon more to get another 40 ish miles range . If they did that, it could make a brilliant touring bike.

There are high quality aftermarket seats with far better pillion and backrest available. Same with luggage. Triumph should enhance the luggage options. Seems to me it would be an easy add on to the sale of many GTs.

@@karlosh9286 I agree that the potential is there for a brillaint touring bike. Triumph could capture additional sales for that IF the were to offer a touring package that includes a wider range of luggage options, a better seat with better pillion & backrest and larger fuel tank and several fairing options. Offer the pieces individually or as packages. It seems like they are letting the aftrmarket take care of all that and missing out on the touring market which is very strong.

@@bradleybaker8894 I agree ! I think on such a heavy bike , Triumph also need to add a "reverse" gear. (Like Honda Goldwings and the BMW R18) There is no way I could push a 320 Kg / 704 lbs (wet) bike backwards up some inclines. Fix the main issues, luggage, fuel tank size, and reverse gear and then they would have a brilliant touring bike.

It's not rocket science. chrome and tassles are for old people. The current generation doesn't want to polish chrome before they ride. We want sexy, stealthy, and mean. We don't need to be shiny... This is an out of the park hit. I am glad someone finally figured it out. Thank you Triumph.

Personally I prefer the colour of the GT but would want to own the R for the riding position and style.

You could get the GT and put the mid foot contol and pegs relocation kit available from Triumph accessories on it. You could also get the R style bars on it too. Some guys are leaning the other direction (getting an R and adding forwards). Or, buy the R and paint it whatever color you like. I have considered that with the GT.

My only complaint is the black is limited to 1000 . I’ll be buying a new rocket but I’d definitely go for the blacked out R unfortunately I’ll probably miss out and have to settle for the regular Black. Why limit it . Make it available permanently

I know the blacked-out look is popular now.......but with the biggest safety issue with motorcycles being that cars don't "see" them, I don't want to ride a bike that is so dark. Especially at night.

I paid full price for them 15k more or less depending on the year. That was a fine price. 25k? That's idiotic. If you are ok with that. More power to you, go and buy all you want. I love the bike overall though I think the blacked out version is asking for someone to not see you at night and run you over. I hate the chopped rear fender. I cant imagine how much crap is thrown up onto your backside in bad weather because of that design.

Online rider reviews indicate you hit the nail on the head. The rider's back gets splattered with water and road gunk from the rear tire. I have seen aftermarket parts for the Rocket 3 that address that very issue. When I get mine I will evaluate the available options because I will ride it in the rain from time to time. There is one available by Corbin that looks good.

@@pipersall6761 Corbin has a great seat as well. It has a superior passenger pillion. I may be interested in a small fairing or something more than what is currently up front to deflect wind for weekly riding and something more substancial for the occasional longer trip. Daily rides and the occasional longer trip will require different sets of onboard luggage. With appropriate accessories the Rocket can fill multiple roles. I will probably have it professionally painted pearl white.

I love the Rocket. Since I'd rather been seen ( unlike in the Monty Python sketch "How not to be seen" kzbin.info/www/bejne/eV6wY5upaNiLfdE ) and if I had the cash I'd have a Red Rocket. ( Plus it alliterates ! ) It sounds like I must be one of the few Triumph customers who've bought red and white bikes. Hey I'd have had the white one in red, if they'd have offered it ! ( It does have red high lights ) If I wanted to pretend to be Batman and wear his outfit, then I guess I would want to be on a blacked out Rocket 3, but I'd only want to ride that on empty roads, where there aren't any blind car drivers ! Triumphs lack of colours could make me consider other manufacturers, the 2021 Yamaha Tracer 9 GT looks really nice in all red !

Rocket 3R black looks like someone just decided to paint it with a can of flat black paint. No real style in that. The bike is a very sexy-looking bike and there is a world of colors they could choose to make it really stand out, but flat black in my opinion is not it.
