Hi Stu,. Great review. I am 75 and not rode a bike for 30 years but this sounds perfect for to get back into riding. I believe you are as old as you feel and I feel like a teenager looking forward to their first bike. Cheaking where my nearest RE dealer is. Wish me luck.

Hi Paul. I'm 76 and ride a brand new Interceptor 650 that very much reminds me of my wonderful Triumph TR6 I had in the late 60's. Before this I had a Bullet 500. I plan to ride until I keel over or can't get on, whichever comes first. Watch all the safety and training videos on KZbin and take mihai's advice. I think you will be amazed (as I was) at how much good safety and riding skills stuff has come out in recent years. I highly recommend MCRider videos.

The Classic 350 is a hefty and muscular bike, no doubt about it. You need to activate every single bicep fibre to move it around while parking. But the story changes once you are firmly set in the saddle and put your hands on the wide handlebar. Switch on the ignition key, and the loud, bassy dug-dug-dug-dug sound starts the blood flowing in your mind and the body. Only thing is that the blood flow does not lead to a surge of power and aggression. Instead, as you rev up the throttle ever so gently, it leads you into the zone of calm, quiet and relaxed confidence. This bike loves being ridden in an easy mode. It tells you that there is no need to outrun others. You start cruising at 60 kmph in 5 th gear, and gently become oblivious of everything and everyone around you. You pass by highways, soak in the gentle breeze, stop at roadside cafes, have sips of masala tea every now and then, and the aromas lift you into the zen mode which you have always been craving for since childhood. And then you realise it... So often in life, when you slow down the pace, the heart starts beating faster !

I love your eloquent , honest and competent reviews Stuart . This one is no exception . You manage to convey the true spirit of each bike you ride . I am 82 and have ridden bikes all my life . Currently I ride an immaculate 1999 Rebel . I love the retro vibe The joy of motorcycling is to relax , enjoy and appreciate the freedom only a bike can provide . No redlining every gear but just listening to the music of a well tuned engine running well within its limits . I love the RE classic . It could well be my next bike . The Rebel will still remain with me though ! Be safe always and enjoy your riding .

You’re making it hard to contain the urge to test ride this bike. And I think I know what will happen if I do. I’m 62, and after owning many heavy, powerful and expensive bikes, the idea of riding a classy, comfortable, reasonably priced, light and relaxed retro bike is very appealing. I have a feeling this bike will appeal mainly to the very inexperienced and the very experienced, older riders, who don’t want to wrestle a heavy bike and no longer have a need to prove anything. You are an excellent and articulate reviewer. It’s a pleasure watching your videos. Thanks for your hard work and effort putting these together so others can learn and enjoy.

As one who falls into the “older discerning” category, I’m so pleased I bought one of these. I noticed it jumped forward off it’s side-stand when I started it one day, admittedly on an awkward bit of camber, as I stood by not holding the bars, so I would be careful of that. Becoming a septuagenarian, I look forward to growing old with this bike.

I've owned an RE Classic 500 for 3.5 years & have (& continue to) enjoyed the experience of owning my 1st non-Japanese bike. Living on the southern edge of the Yorkshire Dales, I have some wonderful B-roads & byroads to gently tour through when the weather is kind. I fully agree with your comment that at higher speeds, the 500 is a bit frenetic - I tell people that once over 70mph, the piston has stopped going up & down & the bike takes over! 50~60mph is fine & relaxed on an A-road, much less than that on the B-roads. At 66, I'm not interested in "0~60 in 3 nano-seconds"! My RD350 days are long gone.... I understand that the Meteor (& presumably the new Classic 350) has a balance countershaft which will make it less "vibrational" (my word!). The outgoing 500 doesn't have that which is why I'm very content "bimbling about" in the Dales (& the Lakes) at speeds which are much more relaxed. It's what RE ownership is about isn't it? If you're in a big hurry, get a different bike! I'm away to the Cotswolds for a week of gentle exploring soon & I'm looking forward to this. No motorway running of course! Ride safe & thank you for your informative review of my 500's li'l successor.

Hi Stephen, have you fitted a 19t sprocket and Carberry reduction plate on you bike ? If not its worth thinking about improves the bike if you want a bit better cruising ability and a big reduction in vibration on your 500 .

Nice video Stu and having the Meteor out here in Australia I can confirm your belief that it makes a great unhurried tourer. I had a week off at the beginning of April and did a comfortable 2100km roadtrip up the east coast of Queensland from my place on the Sunshine Coast to Mackay and home with detours to different beaches along the way. Very comfortable very smooth never missed a beat easily kept up with the traffic.

The perfect second bike ( or first bike ) which will appeal to all ages. My non motorcycling neighbour said he thought it looked fantastic (which it does) and it drew some very positive comments from a group of teenagers I rode past today. Makes me feel pretty cool riding it, even if I am not. If you are in the market, just get one. Stuart was spot on with his review.

With the caveat that you cant put Rolex and RE in the same league, ridiculous. 9999 out 10000 Rolexes are absolutely (!) flawless and every Rolex is made a 100% out of the best materials this world has to offer for wrist watches. While RE‘s speedometers „sometimes“ fail ( isnt that a rather uncomplicated thing?) and they are still fighting for flawless paintjobs, according to Mr. Fillingham himself.

I have been watching your videos for some time now.....revisiting your earlier ones .... I love the easy going content, the trips over the Humber Bridge and the ''Go for a Ride'' through the Yorkshire countryside..It's all very nostalgic of my time riding the English country lanes back in the late seventies...albeit on a 'Beemer'. Your Video's are very well produced and interesting to watch, listen and learn....I just stick a camera on my bike, Go for a ride then edit out the boring straight bits of the trip..The renascence of the Classic Motorcycle is an ever increasing phenomena. BSA are 'trying' to do it, Triumph, very successful building a classic line, more sophistication, coupled with higher price. Norton in my opinion have lost they way...I believe they should build a modern version of the Domi 99. Royal Enfield has obviously got their products and sales pitch/pricing just right, this is born out by their ever increasing sales. Great classic bikes on a well produced video Stu...look forward to more of the same..Greetings from not so sunny España.

Thanks Uncle Stu! This has me curious enough to try and get a test ride on one of these. As owning a Classic 500 - listening to the areas of improvement does make me curious. Sorry to hear about the rush job they did on the tank - usually RE doesn't do a bad job, but it can happen, but as much I love the brand and the bikes, I'm not too impressed with the warranty with MotoGB as a middle man - I have my own horror story on that, involving lots of chasy chasy and waity waity so I do hope they finally got their act together. @@juliehinchcliffe9532 Yes, better than expected, extremely comfortable, solid and characterful. I feel it will take a couple of 1000 kms before the engine really loosens up but on a twisty road it is fun. It will cruise all day at 100kph but is in its element at 75-95. I just bought one of these. I'm 68 years old, and have been riding for over 50 years. Outside of my '72 Norton Commando, this is the most straight up FUN motorcycle I have ever owned. The handling is just superb, the throttling is relaxed, the engine is SMOOOOTH (and NOT just for a single!), and the curb appeal is Smackdown Gorgeous! Things to know if you're considering one. This bike (for it's engine size) is HEAVY. 425 pounds! My Commando didn't even weigh this much. I guess it's a testament to its overbuilt frame. It'll take a nuclear strike to bend this frame, I suspect. Also it's TALL. I have a 32" inseam, and I can barely flatfoot it in sneakers. With regular riding boots it's just fine. Also, don't be in a hurry if you're out riding doing errands. At nearly every place you stop, someone will come up and ask you "What is this?" "Where is it made?" "Is it fast?"(No...not really!) "How much does it cost?" etc. etc. You've been warned. Finally, if you're an experienced rider but have reached a point in your life where you aren't touring across state lines anymore, and have no need to expend testosterone by trying to reach the "Double Ton", then this may very well be the bike for you. For what this thing costs? There IS no measure of "Fun per Dollar" on ANY other bike than can approach what you get on a RE Classic 350~!

Thank you for another excellent review! Another great advantage of the J-series engine is the outstanding fuel mileage. I'm averaging over 80 miles per US gallon on the Meteor. Smooth as a twin? Yes! another class video Mr Finnigan, the classic is a very nice looking bike and you look very dapper in your sports jacket, I'm glad to hear you had additional safety gear on, loving the Union Jack scarf.

When I started riding back in the early 70s, the leftover 305cc and new 350cc Hondas were normal, typical sized bikes for serious road riding. A 650-750cc bike was huge. And when the Kaw Z1, 900cc hit the market… O M G !!!!! This pretty little bike really does take an old soul to own and love it. I think I’d qualify 😊 should I decided to go this route. Thank you for the video work, well done 👍🏽

Thanks Stu. You answered many of my questions about the Classic 350. The one thing that concerned me about trading my trusty Bullet on a 350 is the fact that there is so little weight difference. Giving up HP and torque without losing some weight seems counter productive. Time will tell...

Morning Stuart. I'm running in my Meteor at the moment. Although I love the Classic I bought the Meteor for the Mag wheels. At 66 I thought stopping the wheels and spokes from rusting could be a challenge. My old Triumph Bonny T100 was notorious for rust. Having said that, I'm not struck on the feet forward position on the Meteor, especially on cornering. I also think the overall look of your bike is better, it has that period look about it. I'm thinking about hard panniers, so it would be interesting if you go down that road. Cheers for the Vids Stu.

I can second your comments TB, having lived very happily with my Meteor for a year now. I had the chance today to do a side by side comparison of a Meteor and Classic and strongly suspect the lower rails holding rider pegs and brake bits could be swapped between the 2 thus relieving the foot forward stance. Similarly it may be possible to swap rider seats and handlebars. Why not buy a classic I hear some say? Well, I also run a 1951 350 Matchless - classic enough - and appreciate the Meteor's non classic, functional cast wheels, the rust proof plastic bits and the refinement Stuart describes. Is there ever a truly, madly, deeply perfect bike?

Thank you so much for a well presented review. I'm a 69 years young Ex pat now living in NZ and I'm still riding! At the moment I'm back on a 1970 T100R Triumph, but keeping it fettled and running is getting harder for me. While this 350 looks the part, but I think it might struggle on our open roads 100Km speeds while fully loaded up for touring which I still do! The new BSA Gold Star will be out of range of my pocket, so I'm looking at second hand 500cc Enfields. Again, I enjoy your reviews, THANX.

Amazing review! Love the cobblestone test. Sorry about the paint issues but your integrity and class came through in spades and now RE can make it right. I have a dark gun metal grey coming Stateside, am 55 and have had Triumphs, Moto Guzzi, Honda, Suzuki, H-D and truly have never been more excited…have not even ridden one as they are not here yet. Thought about the twins but felt like my old Bonnie and wanted something more retro…BAM!

I think your narrative helps me enjoy my red n chrome 350 (taking it slow) as much as my GS .. on days maybe more . One of the few things in today’s day and age that truly feels more than worth the money spent on it .

Where's the "Love" button? Adding one more "Like" just seems to be doing your video an injustice... Excellent video as usual. And THIS one is what I've been waiting months to see! Even before you mentioned possibly adding one to the channel, I was hoping that you would at least test one once available, so that we could get a taste of your feelings toward the newer bike vs. the "original". Looking forward to seeing more on this one for sure! And it appears that I have some time yet, as, while RENA has FINALLY announced the 350 Classic is coming to the US, so far at least, it's only shown in what I consider the least favorable color options... So, the wait continues...
