Nissin 2 piston axial mount brakes, instead of Brembo 4 piston radial mount brakes, also lost Ohlins fully adjustable shocks, lost fully adjustable forks, got a cheaper screen, cheaper paint, lost cruise control, ect. Added an IMU for cornering abs and TC, which I could care less for. They took a whole lot more than $800 out of it. The XC is gonna be the one that got away, and reviewers killed it by telling viewers it was "expensive" in every review. Yeah, because it was premium!

As the previous owner of a Street Scrambler (and current owner of an XE), I've never understood why Triumph didn't make a 1200 "street scrambler", so the X is a welcome addition to the range. I'd prefer a 19 inch front wheel, 4-piston calipers, and 20-25mm lower seat, but It's definitely a step in the right direction. Like the new instrument set up on the X. Always suffered "puncture anxiety" on the SS, so tubeless is good. Glad to see they have gone back to a normal key ignition. Wish they'd specified the SS two-part seat.

I have a Street Scrambler and love it to bits but I'm seriously considering the new 1200X. At 6'3" I have no inseam problems with the XE but I just don't like the look and I'm not interested in the XE's greater off road pretensions, I have a "proper" off road bike for that. A 1200 Street Scrambler would be my perfect bike but the new 1200X is now much closer to that ideal than the XC/XE models.
@phils2180

Love that Triumph have finally opened the 1200 Scrambler up to us shorter riders. Its the only thing that put me off buying an XC - the height was just a bit too much of a stretch and I didnt find the Street Scrambler as much fun. Another sterling review by the way. Keep up the good work dude!

I had my heart set on a 1200 XE, I struggled with the test ride as I literally had to slide off the seat to get a comfortable footing at the lights. It really was a stretch for me at 172cm. I was gutted, so got the street scrambler, tarted that up to my spec and loving it. Looking at this now has tempted me with the lower seat, might have to have a butchers when I see what deals I can get on a Bobber in Jan/Feb when sales are well down, might get the 1200 X too if I like it and see what deal they’ll do of I p/ex the street scrambler, if not, I’ll add it to my hoard of bikes. Nice review, so the X is missing a few nice things from its pricing point but I’ll definitely change the shocks, get a custom seat made, I fancy loads of chrome on it so will talk to my custom shop and see what can be done. Will definitely get Hitchcox to make a custom exhaust and change the tyres👍🍻

Massive improvements to the X over the XC.. would have preferred the speed twin clocks instead of the trident ones but the key ignition and lower seat height now make this the better choice over the XE.. although the price is lower it’s still too expensive though..

But I love the British twins, Oh and use to race a vintage 66 BSA 650/Track master frame and fire roads are OK with me to be able to have the 1200 everywhere else., Thanks Bob, Love your work.

I have a 2019 Street Scrambler, a large part of the appeal is the “old school” speedo and halogen headlamp. This one is interesting, indeed. But, I wish they would have done a 1200 Scrambler and kept more of the old school aspects. However, can’t complain about a Triumph….such beautiful, smooth motorcycles. ❤

You can be 5’9”, but have a 29 inch, 31 inch or a 34 inch inside leg, which makes all the difference. A friend of mine is 5’4” and I am 5’8”, but we both have 29” inside leg seam. @jakeviolet2195 11 ай бұрын
Doesn't matter what your inseam is. You shouldn't be trying to flat foot a bike with both feet anyway, even if you can. The proper way to hold up a bike is with one foot on the ground and the other foot on the peg - like a human kickstand. This allows you to tilt the bike over (just like when its on the kickstand) so you can reach the ground. If you are very short, you can scoot your butt over in the saddle so that one cheek hangs off and make it easier to reach the ground. If riders would learn this simple technique, all of this squabbling and hand wringing over seat height could end forever.

I owned an XC for two years and loved it, but looking at the list of component downgrades Triumph have made to the X it does make me wonder how the hell they have only managed to save £800 over the price of the outgoing XC ?. They have made the 'cheaper' X £300 more expensive then the original XC was at the launch date back in 2019. I just don't understand why Triumph have fitted all the components from their cheapest bike such as brakes, switchgear, clocks, footrests & indicators etc The brushed aluminium guards gave the bike a premium feel so they stick painted plastic ones on instead. No doubt the standard fit cruise control got deleted as well? Backward move Triumph 👎

I don't think you do understand how money, basic economics, and inflation works especially over the last 3 years. As a manufacturer so much has changed, the cost of materials, the cost of labour, the cost of parts, the cost of transportation, have all gone up enormously. Plus the constant changing of electronic parts from overseas suppliers, its a nightmare, so if it rides as well or better than the earlier model as well as being cheaper then that is a result for us and well done to Triumph.

Even at the previous price, I still don't think they were expensive. Here in the US the 1200 was running at around 15 grand. Considering what you get it's not a high price for such a nice bike. I think the new lower stance helps to. I'm not really going to go off road, at least not deep out in the stx,so the lower seat is a little more relaxed. Thank you for bringing back the key for the ignition. These are nice bikes at a great price. If you want something nice it's gonna be a little more expensive. The X model is the one to go with. Love the color combo.

Not to burst your bubble, but consider also that its a 200+kg bike, make sure to sit one a get a good feel of it...yes the centre of gravity might feel very low which is a good thing but if you are planning to go offroad even the smallest of rocks under a tire can put you in a position where all of a sudden you can't reach the ground anymore.

I was looking at buying the outgoing model earlier this year and didn't like that the XC, despite nearly being the same cost as the XE, was missing quite a few features. Went for an Urban GS instead as it handles better. The new 1200 scrambler seems to have addressed most of the issues people had with the outgoing model. As is frequently the case I wonder what triumph were thinking with the tank paintjobs - why is there a giant triumph graphic all over the tank on the X model and the big 1200 on the XE, it's supposed to be a retro.

It saddens me to see brands like Triumph doing this to so-called top-of-the-range models like these! And on top of that, they try to make fools of their customers by cutting down on the quality of so many components such as the suspension and rear shocks, front and rear brake callipers, controls, screen, tank capacity, mudguard finishes etc etc and just dropping a couple of euros...I feel completely let down especially with the X model (ex XC)! I would love to know if they have left the cooling fins on the right side of the engine as normal now so at least if you fit a low exhaust it doesn't look like someone has gone at the engine with an angle grinder. I can't understand why after they scrapped the front CAT unit and transferred the CATS to the cans in the previous model they didn't take the opportunity to stop cutting the stupid fins away as after all, it is another process and costs money.

Sad news for Triumphs 1200 scrambler range, not only have they rendered the Street scrambler completely obsolete, they are selling the XE for £300 less but you are losing a fully adjustable front and rear Ohlins setup which gave this line up a premium feel/look. The new dash is awful, looks like it’s ripped off a Triumph Trident, which was cheap looking at the best of times. Additional extras and accessories sound good though!

So . . . X, does that make it a Twitter Triumph? Is the suspension as rebuildable as the Showa? If not, wouldn’t that make the “new” suspension more expensive? With respect to price - point, what’s the maintenance schedule, the cost for a seat that fits needs and is it possible to get an extended warranty just for the electronics? Critical questions aside, kudos to Triumph for hiding the tank’s pinch-weld, that one feature makes me want to check out the whole package.

Why didn’t they bring out the X with a 19 inch front wheel if it’s not meant to be a hardcore off roader? Then it will steer better, and I’d consider it 🫣

Now that the standard seat height is lower on the X(C) would this be a good bike to get back into motorcycling? Looking for a long term bike. How manageable is the motor?

The downgrade of the specs and features is not completely reflected in the price. In my branche we call this a hidden price increase. It’s a lower quality bike now.

While I appreciate the change for a more affordable 1200 scrambler.... I think they've gone a little too far in the other direction. If they had kept a the gauge of the XC then it would have been fine. But with the gauge of the trident, it feels too budget now. I'm in the market for a scrambler 1200 and hearing about a new entry level 1200 model got me excited as I was concerned about the height of the XC. But now seeing the new model, I'll be looking at the XC's and just switch out to lowering springs.

I had a new 2019 1200XE for 2 years but went back to the dealers 4 times during that time for a replacement gear change shaft. I got fed up in the end and part exchanged it for a new Suzuki V Strom 1050XT. Shame really because I absolutely loved everything about the bike except the keyless ignition (now gone) and the crap gearbox shaft 😢

Dont waste your money. Ive had nothing but problems with my 1200XE (all of which triumph refuse are warranty issues) Theyve replaced three sets of fork oil seals before 3000km. The chrome is wearing away on the forks already. Weeping rear shocks that are clearly wearing themselves apart. The airbox filter cartridge is able to open itself up from the airbox and let in debris. My front rim slowly lets air out due to the alloy becoming pitted. My front discs have warped due to the cheap metal framework that connects it to the rim. Get a ktm.

I really like your channel but now you are celebrating a major downgrade? What a shame, Triumph! Keep your old versions, guys! Non-adjustable suspension in this price range??? Quality suspension is the most important thing in my opinion. And there are more things to consider. Downgraded brakes? Are you kidding me? There are plenty of smaller bikes for short riders. Triumph now makes its once bold, tall and beautifully made Scrambler a cheap wannabe premium bike. Lower seat height could have been managed without stripping the bike down. Another thought: They could have introduced an additional sportier, lower version with a 17 or 19 inch wheel. By the way, there are also tall riders like me out there who struggle because too many bikes are cramped and too low. The 1200 has never been and will never be a perfect bike for short riders. So why detune it in this catastrophic manner? The price should even be lower. Don't get me wrong, shorter riders should also be catered for but downgrading a bike does not make it a better bike for them.

Non sense, so you are telling me that all that downgrade just for the high suspension problem? really? The screen is awful, small hard to see at first sight .... the exahust heat is a bigger problem. It looks that the changes have other origins...

If the new 1200X is more road orientated bike, a 19” front wheel would’ve been more suitable, that display is slowly taking this bike towards modern appearance and for some of us who still like analog it’s a bit of a…but that’s just me

As someone whose first road bike was a 79 xs650, I didn’t own a motorcycle where I could flat foot both feet until about 10 years ago. It’s nice to see these ergonomic improvements in general. But it looks to me like Triumph just slimmed down the seat. I wonder if this will make them less comfortable on long rides.

Listen, these are both pointless bikes. They are WAY too big and way to HEAVY. And WAY to EXPENSIVE. What Triumph should have done was put the 660 motor in a scrambler. 80hp is plenty. And keep it in the low $8000 range. They would have knocked it out the park.
