the SS package wasn't a muscle car it was an upmarket sporty trim the SS debuted for 1961 and always had powerful engines the one described here sounds like a version of the one in the base Corvette/Cadillac CT5 V Blackwing though both have more HP from factory than the supposed new Impala SS the last three generations of Impala were front wheel drive and mainly powered by V6 engines. when I was growing up in the 90s if Boston Police's Crown Victoria's were in for repairs Chevy Impalas and caprices were used
