Imo, Scott took out almost all of the mystery from the franchise in his prequel movies. One thing i loved about 'Alien: Isolation' was how well it captured the look and feel of terror that came so very close to the original film. Part of me hopes to see something referenced in this show from that game. If the show is set on Earth, i can't help wondering if the Queen we saw plunge to the depths in 'Alien vs. Predator' is somehow factored in?

As we watch major studios go bankrupt with expensive flops, I just wonder why they don't spend more time writing. Modern producers don't seem to appreciate how much skill and effort went into Alien or Aliens. Those movies were created with immense care. I hope they spend time developing the story before they start shooting. It would be a positive change.

I think we fans have been saying for some time. A television series with longer form and more time , the franchisee can be protected and its affordable, like dune would work as a limited series or mini series. ( or many other franchises) can eork in that format. You just have to hire the right people. Wrong its she hulk , right its daredevil.

Faro the movie is perhaps the most perfect film. It’s in my top 3. TV series Fargo is also excellent. I just hope that being on earth is to far a stretch. To make it work you have to take into account so many factors. It could blow up just like Westworld did when in season 3 they show moved to our world. I loved Westworld and I still loved the series but they took on too much too fast. The cast became much smaller and it just got way ahead of itself. I hope they think through the plot carefully.

EARTH HIVE WAR!!!! There was a trilogy that came out in the 90's that featured Ripley as a clone/ synthetic and the xenomorph getting loos on Earth. Considering that book was out when the book they based AVP on was also on the shelf makes me wonder if they will play with themes in the Hive War books.

I have a Dark Horse comics book from 1994 titled Aliens: Earth Angel (story and art by John Byrne) that takes place on Earth in the 50s. Maybe that would be the inspiration.

My feelings are mixed. IMHO there would have to be new elements introduced to expand the ALIEN world somewhat. My concern would be that the series might feel stagnant if it has no room to grow and content for us as viewers to feel an emotional investment in the world and its characters. MY problem with horror is that I'm not interested in body counts; I want characters I can relate to and root for. May take a while for me to warm up to this.

Hawley did such a good job with setting up a specific tone in Legion (plus he kept it going throughout the series), that I have great hope for what he can do with a franchise like Alien in an episodic format instead of movies.

I do agree what Ripley said in the film think if we now have the cure for cancer would the pharmaceutical companies sell it or put it under raps since they make a lot more money for the treatment of the problem I believe they would put it under raps as Gordon Gekko said Greed is good. I doubt it somehow. Not because they're not greedy, but because 1) a competitor could beat them too it, then they lose all of their income, and 2) if it ever got out that they did hide it they'd be crucified.

There's also the Alien Romulus movie, directed by Fede Alvarez, to look forward to before the series drops in 2025. It's set between Alien and Aliens movies and is currently due for (theatrical) release on August 16th, 2024.

A few things I wonder about is one will the Yantja be in this series at some time, after all the modern day setting was used in the Alien vs Preditor movies, and two will a certain black female survival expert be in the series.

Dan O’Bannon’s Alien. Scott gets too much credit for “creating” the Alien franchise when in fact he did not. Prometheus and Covenant are proof that it’s not his choices that made Alien the story it was. It to mention Aliens showing how you can be a writer and director.

I am a long time fan of the Alien franchise! I preferred 1 and 2 but didn’t dislike any of them. Consider that at 75 years old I have been watching them over 45 years. My preference in movie genres has not changed much but my ability to capture the full meaning of them has waned. I may have to rewatch scenes or even the whole movie to get it. So I am keeping an open mind and hoping for as good a job making the series as has been done in making the movies!

i don't understand how it can be a prequel and take place on Earth. Alien was supposed to have taken place in 2122. And we were lead to believe that was the 1st time we've encountered the species.

"Prequel on Earth" has me deeply concerned. That was a great failing of the AvP films. Ripley's whole motivation in the core films was to keep the Alien off Earth, she sacrificed her life in the third film to keep it off Earth. The idea that the Aliens had been on Earth and it was fine inherently cheapens that drama, I feel. Yeah, the idea is to make the stakes more immediate, but that's very hard to do with a prequel. Unless you're going into an Alternate Universe route, we all know things have to line up so that the films we've already seen can take place. So we know there isn't going to be an Alien infestation of Earth, we know things are going to be mostly okay and kept under wraps so that Ripley and her crew, getting the "distress signal" in Alien, have no idea what any of this stuff is. I'm still eagerly awaiting the show coming, and really hope it'll be good, but it already feels like they're making a whole slew of mistakes.

If they have been on Earth and known about on Earth for hundreds of years PRIOR to the 1979 Alien movie, it dulls the impact, excitement and horror of finding something completely new on LV426 by the Nostromo crew. The fact that this was a first contact with a previously unknown life form explained why no one knew about it, it's life cycle and it's threat to the crew or how to deal with it is suddenly muted when an armchair historian from 200 years earlier would have all the answers (and that info never made it into a computer bank, book or whatever). Much as I was disappointed by the "prequels", I fear this will be much the same....or worse: a retreading of the AVP stories that made it seem like the Aliens had been on Earth all along....and for hundreds of years.....but for some reason we had to to deep space to find one in the first movie (and go back to deep space multiple times to try to find more)....excuse me if I'm not holding my breath.

Well since you asked… I think Noah Hawley is THE GUY to make this show awesome and reset the mess that’s become Alien. I watched the original Alien on cable tv when I was 9 and it absolutely terrified me. It is the gold standard of horror sci fi for me. I wished Ridley Scott would have done something different with the prequels and left their origins a mystery. David creating the xenomorph is ridiculous. Prometheus had potential but the whole bio weapon thing felt lazy

Fans - We love this because X, Y, Z. Directors and producers - I think the main reason people love this is A, B, C. So we're taking it in the direction of 1, 2, 3 and breaking the timeline of events to explore Red, Green, Blue. Also Directors and producers - I don't understand why this failed. the only story that is worth telling for Aliens and the only way to revive the franchise after the disasters that Prometheus and Covenant left us is the original story for Alien 3: On Earth, Everyone Can Hear You Scream. It's a mistake to set it on Earth and seventy years before Alien. How to explain the ignorance of the creatures in the first movie? My guess is this will be the usual, just plaster neon, floating drones and glitchy holograms everywhere and have a few actors with a tiny i/o port stuck to their necks to let us know they are androids.

This is not for the fans of the original films. It sounds more like a reboot, as both alien and aliens would be after this and no one knew what a alien was. So aliens on earth would only work if it was after alien 4.

In the first film the company was aware of the ship somehow as ash was added to the crew last minute with orders to collect the sample...crew expendable. This show could be the catalyst as to how they found the ships location, I hope so.

@@DarthFelth kinda, ash was added to the crew on its way back to earth. This just means the company knew about the distress signal before the crew were done their mining shift, not the Alien itself. Ash was in contact with the company through mother it was only deemed a retrieval after infection and crew were expendable this all happened in 2122. So the show should be 100 years not 80, especially if it's going to be aliens on earth, but this still messes the timelines. THe synthetics would be relatively a new thing so the independent type won't be till after alien 3 and before alien 4. Burk had no idea what the aliens were he just knew what reports were saying from the early contacts, by the time the full grown Aliens were a issue the communications were already taken out. If the Alien was known the company would of sent their own people.

I think part of the appeal of Alien was that the Alien was almost like a spider. Hiding in dark corners and crevices, etc, and pouncing. It was far less scary when in full view, walking about and TRYING to look scary. Since Aliens and then Alien 3 the Xeno has become far less terrifying. In trying to evolve the origins of the Alien, Scott stripped it of it's mystery and iconic status. When Alien released back in 1979, people thought that Ripley being the sole survivor and defeating the Xeno was pretty cool as it was generally the guys that saved the day. Now, it's an actual agenda and if a gay woman doesn't kick arse and save all of the stupid men, everyone complains and boycots the show. Which is probably why the strong leads in the last two Alien movies have been female. Pander to the woke crowd. I'm hoping the TV series will go back to it's more claustrophobic roots and ditch some (or all) of the sub plots that ruined Prometheus and Covenant. What made Alien and Aliens great was that they were monster movies about a species that was clever, ferocious and tough to kill in an already alien and confusing environment. I personally don't care about similarities between monsters and people. It's dull and it's been done to death.

After that we had a Starship troopers version disguised as a second part , a very sad and badly made third part , and after that was a descent to hell with which version worse than the previous .
